Rare 1987 Ford Mustang Red Gt Convertible. 3700 Original Miles-mint- 1 Of 702! on 2040-cars
Punta Gorda, Florida, United States
HERE IS A ONCE AND A LIFETIME CHANCE TO PURCHASE ONE OF THE LOWEST MILAGE 1987 MUSTANG GT CONVERTIBLES AROUND. THIS IS ALSO THE MOST DESIRABLE OF ALL THE MUSTANGS OFFERED IN 1987- A GT CONVERTIBLE- MEDIUM SCARLET RED W/ WHITE TOP & OXFORD WHITE LEATHER INTERIOR. THIS CAR HAS 3700 ORIGINAL MILES! AND IS A CLOSE TO NEW AS YOU WILL FIND OUT THERE!!!! I AM A PRIVATE SELLER- SELLING MY BABY. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 4 YEARS NOW, AND PRIOR TO THAT IT WAS PURCHASED FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, BY THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT FROM. CAR IS AMAZING- YOU WILL NOT FIND ONE LIKE HER. I HAD A DELUXE "MARTI REPORT" PREPARED FOR THE CAR, AND IT WAS 1 OF 702 PRODUCED IN 1987 LIKE THIS! THE BUILD SHEET SHOWES THE DATE IT WAS ORDED ALL THE WAY TO THE DAY IT WAS SOLD. IT WAS SOLD AT NORTH BROTHERS FORD IN MICHIGAN ON 7/31/1987. I HAVE SEVERAL ITEMS FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT YEAR- A HAT/POCKET KNIFE/KEY CHAIN/DEALER DECALS. CAR HAS ORIGNAL WINDOW STICKER AS WELL AS MANY OF THE ORIGINAL TAGS AND INFORMATION ITEMS THAT WOULD HAVE COME WITH THE CAR UPON DEIVERY (SEE PICTURES) COME WITH THE ORIGINAL NOS OWNERS MANUAL (NEVER USED) AND A SECOND NOS MANUAL IF YOU NEED TO LOOK SOMETHING UP. ORIGINAL KEYS WITH ALL THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP KEY TAG INFO (SEE PICTURES) I ADDED NOS FRONT AND REAR SCARLET RED FLOOR MATS (I THINK I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOXES- EXPENSIVE!!!) CAR HAS ONLY BEEN TOUCHED USING GLOVES (SEE TRUNK PHOTO). ORIGINAL 1987 GOODYEAR GATORBACK TIRES WITH ALMOST NO MILES ON THEM. I SAY ALMOST NO MILES- BECAUSE THE CAR FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE ORIGNALS STORED INSIDE AND I ALSO STORED THE ORIGINAL TIRES/RIMS INSIDE UNTIL THIS WEEK. CAR HAD BEEN SITTING ON STOARGE TIRES TO PRESERVE THE ORIGINALS. I NEED TO DISCLAIM THAT THE ORIGINALS ARE PAST THE SAFETY PERIOD ALLOWED BY THE DOT- BUT YOU WILL WIN ANY CAR SHOW THIS CAR IS ENTERED IN!!! ORIGINAL LUGS AND WHEEL LOCKS WERE INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED AND STORED UNTILL THIS WEEK, WHEN ORIGINAL TIRES WERE INSTALLED. (AS A SIDE NOTE- NOS 1987-1989 LUG NUTS SELL FOR $50 EACH FROM A CLASSIC PARTS PLACE). I PURCHASED A NOS RADIO ANTENNA ($100) BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL HAD BEEN REMOVED AND WAS ALL NICKED UP BYSOMEONE USING A WRONG SIZE WRENCH. NOS ANTENAS ARE TOUCH TO FIND!! THIS ONE IS STILL IN THE WRAPPER AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DELIVERED TO THE DEALER (SEE PICTURE). JUST BOUGHT A NEW FORD MOTORCRAFT BATTERY FOR IT AS WELL. THE CAR IS ALL ORIGINAL EXCEPT FOR A FEW "BLING" ITEMS. THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD DEALER SWAP VALVE COVERS FROM CHROME ONES ( I HAVE ORIGINALS/NEW WITH 1987 STAMPING ON THEM) CHROME OIL CAP (HAVE ORIGINAL) SPARK PUG CABLE CLAMPS CHANGED TO FANCY ANODIZED ALUMINUM (HAVE NOS ORIGINALS) AND REAR SHOCKS (HAVE ORIGINALS) ORIGINAL VALVE STEMS SEEM TO HAVE A CHROME SLEEVE OVER THEM- BUT I DIDNT WANT TO SEE IF IT SLIDES OFF. NOS STEMS ARE $6 AT MUSTANGS UNLIMITED. THE CAR DOES DISPLAY "LOW WASHER FLUID" I PURCHASED A NOS WASHER FLUID TANK THAT I WILL INCLUDE TO NEW OWNER. NEW OWNER CAN CHANGE OUT IF THEY SO DESIRE. PASSENGER SIDE-EXHAUST PIPE HAS TWO SPOTS OF RUST ON IT . JUST POINTING IT OUT, DOESNT EFFECT PERFORMANCE OF THE CAR. THIS CAR CAME EQUIPED WITH ALMOST EVERY OPTION IN 1987. HERE IS THE LIST! Traction-Lok Rear Axle - Optional Axle Ratio - P225/60VR15 Radial Black Sidewall Tires - Speed Control - Air Conditioner - Manual - AM/FM/Cassette Electronic Search Stereo Radio - Dual Electric Remote Mirrors - Power Windows - Premium Sound System - Visibility Light Group - Power Equipment Group - Five-Speed Manual Overdrive Transmission BREIF HISTORY OF THE 1987 MUSTANG The third-generation Mustang was produced by Ford Motor Company from 1979 to 1993.Built on Ford’s widely used “Fox Platform” it evolved through a number of sub-models, trim levels, and drivetrain combinations during its production life. It underwent a multi-faceted update for 1987.In 1986, the Mustang received its first significant redesign since being introduced in 1979, incorporating both interior and exterior changes for the 1987 model year. The exterior design was reminiscent of the earlier SVO and gave the car more of an "Aero" look, in keeping with Ford's overall styling direction. In 1987 the models were pared down to two versions the “LX” and “GT”. Taillights on the GT wore a specific louvered treatment. GTs retained fog-lights and new turbine style15-inch wheels were introduced. The GT models received all new body trim. The 302 cu in (4.9 L),marketed as "5.0", Mustangs became one of the most popular cars of all time. Also for 1987, V8-poweredMustangs received E7TE heads and forged aluminum pistons with valve reliefs, as opposed to the flat-tops used in the previous year. The E7cylinder heads were sourced from the truck line after the 1986 swirl-port design demonstrated performance problems. Power ratings jumped to 225 HP and 300 FT-LBS of torque. The 1987 GT Mustang was offered in either a Hatchback or Convertible. 10,451 GT Convertibles were produced in 1987. THE MUSTANG THAT ALMOST WASNT “There were people who thought Mustang was headed for the scrap heap,” said Ressler. “Sales were sluggish, and they thought that front-wheel drive modern-looking cars were the wave of the future.” After Ford signed an agreement with Mazda to build the Mazda 626 and MX-6 at a new plant just outside of Detroit, the idea was to use the front-wheel drive Mazda platform as the underpinnings for the “new Mustang.” “When news came out that the all-American Mustang was going to be based on a Japanese car and built by a Japanese company, plus move to front-wheel drive and again go back to losing its V-8 engine, the nameplate’s legion of fans could hardly believe it,” An uprising in the Mustang enthusiast community ensued, as did some pointed questions from the automotive press. The public spoke out with a vengeance, and Ford listened. Thousands of letters decrying the idea of a 'Maztang' or 'Musda' besieged Ford's product planners and the new car went on to be the Probe. Ford scrapped the idea at the last minute, cementing the Mustang heritage for the future. The last minute decision however locked in the Fox platform for the next five years. The 1987 Mustang went on to be named to Car & Driver’s 10 Best List. 27 years later, the mustang is still going strong- in part thanks to the 1987 restyled mustang.
MOTORTREND REVIEW-1987 For 1987, the trend to facelifts and once-over improvements continues. There is, however, more' good news this year than there has been in the past. First, the exterior. For what is surely an aging design it looks the best it has to date. An aerodynamically cleaner nosepiece is highlighted by flush-fitting headlamps and new lower lip inlet duct. A new, flush-mounted rear-quarter window gives the Mustang an uncluttered look. The impression of a lower beltline is enhanced by the redesigned body side skirt and rub-stripe package. The air inlet vents on the lower leading edge of each fender well are functional, but Ford chose not to follow through and effectively guide the inlet air for brake cooling or any other aerodynamic assistance. The round, front-spoiler-placed driving lamps stand out, but the overall look is much meaner. Ford celebrates 1 millionth Mustang built at Flat Rock
Thu, 18 Apr 2013Yesterday, the Ford Mustang turned 49 years old, and Ford didn't miss the opportunity to celebrate the one millionth version of the Mustang rolling off the assembly line at the Flat Rock Assembly plant. Production of the Mustang at Flat Rock coincided with the fifth-generation design launching in 2004, and the one millionth car was the car shown above, a 2014 GT convertible painted in Ruby Red.
In total, Ford has sold more than 8.5 million Mustangs since the original car went on sale, but some of the key milestones over the car's nine years at Flat Rock include the Shelby GT-H, Bullitt, Boss 302 and, of course, the 662-horsepower Shelby GT500. Scroll down for a press release celebrating Flat Rock's milestone Mustang.
Ford Transit production fires up, American Pickers among first takers
Wed, 30 Apr 2014Not long ago, the History Channel showed a seemingly unending stream of World War II documentaries, but it made a switch a few years ago to include an increasing mix of 'reality' programming. American Pickers was one of the early attempts at this new formula, with cameras following hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz around the country in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as they tracked down collectibles and "rusty gold" for their Iowa shop, Antique Archeology. The show has since gone on to become one of the channel's most popular programs.
Starting in the new episode airing tonight, the affable hosts will swap their Benz for a 2015 Ford Transit, a nicely timed bit of marketing to coincide with the launch of the model's assembly at the Blue Oval's Kansas City Assembly Plant, which also kicks off this week. Ford is touting 2,000 new jobs created as part of its $1.1-billion investment in the plant.
No strangers to product placement, the guys from American Pickers say their switch away from the Sprinter is because they wanted to balance cargo capacity and fuel economy to make the most of their cross-country jaunts. They opted for the largest Transit available with a long wheelbase, extended body and high roof, giving them 487 cubic feet of cargo room. Hauling power comes from a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. Fittingly, the van wears the same Antique Archaeology logo over white paint as their old Sprinter.
Ford Fiesta ST GRC Racecar is hungry for podiums in 2013
Thu, 07 Feb 2013As we reported earlier, the Chicago showing of this plucky Ford Fiesta ST GRC racer points to bigger and brighter days for Global RallyCross. For the upcoming season, you can expect to see Ken Block and Tanner Foust both driving the Ford racecar, and if last season's results are any indication, you can anticipate quite a few podium appearances, as well.
The Fiesta seen here was built by the Swedes at OlsbergsMSE, and will be driven in anger by Foust in 2013. Modifications are, as you'd expect, extensive, and include an engine, exhaust and braking upgrades, a racing style short-throw shifter and a limited-slip differential. As you can see, the car has been fully stripped out and caged for maximum speed and safety, too.
Refresh your memories with the details of the car, in the press releases below. And if you head out to the Chicago Auto Show this year, don't forget to drop by the Ford stand to have a look.
