during the gasser wars of the 60s, KS "tiger" Pittman was one of the best known gasser pilots. in his poppy red supercharged  40 willys and later a similar 33 willys he regularly battled it out with the likes of Ohio George, Big John Mazmanian and Stone Woods and Cook. in 2011 KS Pittman passed away, but thanks to racing enthusiasts who have cloned his former race cars, his legacy lives on. thanks to a close friend of Pittman another part of his racing history can be relived with the building of this beautiful f-100 pickup. this truck is a clone of the real tow vehicle Pittman used to haul his dragcars thru out the country. the real truck logged a million loyal miles for Pittman before it was stolen, stripped and left for dead in mexico. the truck was built by a life long friend, who finished the truck several years before Pittmans death, Pittmans actual autograph is on the dashboard and the aircleaner. much of the work on this truck was performed at Tinnys Street Rodz in Sellersville pa. Tinnys shop turns out some unbelievable workmanship and this truck is a shining example. great effort was made to track down and use correct period parts while updating certain pieces to make the truck more currently streetable. like the real truck, power comes from a 455 olds motor. the motor is rebuilt, .30 over, and balanced with a engle hydraulic cam and lifters. the motor has an aluminum waterpump and an edelbrock intake and carb, and polished edelbrock valvecovers. the truck also has a NOS 4 core radiator and a full dual exhaust system with turbo mufflers. a vintage heat/air system was installed but blows thru a period correct nostalgic under dash unit, which blows nice and cold. the entire engine compartment is detailed perfectly. for better highway driving the trans is a GM 700R4 fully rebuilt but shifted by a very early period correct BM shifter. the rear is a late model Camaro 10 bolt rear with 3:55 gears. airbags are installed to level the rear suspension. a custom made class 3 hitch is mounted out back with an in-cab brake controller. up front the truck runs the original I-beam axle. steering is manual with a GM box, factory F-100 column and like the real truck topped with a very rare 54 ford crestliner steering wheel. upfront are disc brakes with the factory drum setup on the rear. the truck has been built with 2 fuel tanks to allow for longer road trips. wheels are new Cragar SS with rare anniversery caps mounted on radial tires. the body and paintwork is dropdead gorgeous. like the real truck the color is 64 mustang poppy red base coat/clear coat. the rear fenders, bed sides and the tailgate were all NOS ford pieces. all glass is new with a mild green tint which helps the cab cool on hot days. the bed is finished in white oak with stainless steel strips and a tarp. all the chrome including the grille, bumpers and window garnish frames are brand new. the entire truck has been rewired and everything works correctly. the seat was rolled and pleated, a new headliner, new rug and new door panels were installed. the tach and gauges are also vintage period pieces. an am/fm CD player is mounted behind the glove box door. included with the truck is a miniature replica of the KS Pittman 40 willys. it is painted to match the truck and has been custom lettered by Jim "the Painter", a well known, long time pin striper who has done lettering for Grumpy Jenkins and Jungle Jim. The truck is a proven show winner, detailed top to bottom, front to rear, it needs nothing. I DO NOT OWN THIS TRUCK, IAM LISTING IT FOR A FRIEND. ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TRUCK, THE PRICE, TRANSPORTATION, PAYMENT ECT. MUST BE DIRECTED TO HIM BY CALLING 610-584-0271 AND ASKING FOR HOWARD

Enterprise working with renter's insurance to cover $47k Mustang stolen from its lot

Sat, 11 Jan 2014

There was more than a bit of public indigence following the recent story of Enterprise Rent-A-Car billing a customer $47,000 to replace a Ford Mustang GT Convertible stolen from a Nova Scotia lot. To recap: Kristen Cockerill rented the Mustang for two days, returned it to the lot on a Sunday and left the keys in a secure dropbox only for Enterprise employees to find the car gone the next day.
Despite Enterprise policies stating that customers are responsible for vehicles dropped on off-days, the company has admitted that the situation could've been handled a bit better.
In a recent statement, Enterprise has backed off the big-bill story, and claims to be working with Cockerill and her insurance company to resolve the issue. Further, the Enterprise general manager overseeing Nova Scotia has spoken with the harried renter, and apologized "for the way this claim was handled during the last few months."

Ford cleans up painting process with cameras

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

Knowing how the bacon gets made rarely entices us and, in the same vein, the same usually goes for knowing about how new cars get painted. But in both instances, however, quality - or a lack thereof - is instantly obvious. In terms of the latter, Ford is showing off its new paint quality process with 3D Dirt Detection Technology to find imperfections in vehicle paint more easily and more quickly.
This process - being performed on the F-150 SVT Raptor above - uses 16 computer-controlled cameras to create a three-dimensional model (inset) of the vehicle to detect flaws in the paint including dirt particles, which can then be buffed out manually. Ford says this new technology cuts down on time spent looking for paint flaws and gives workers more time to correct those that are discovered.
Currently, Ford only uses its 3D Dirt Detection Technology system at three factories (the Dearborn, MI facility, along with those in Louisville, Kentucky and Valencia, Spain), but it will soon spread to five more plants in North America. Ford has released a video and press release for this innovative and unexpectedly interesting process, both of which are posted below.

2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost

Fri, 16 May 2014

Earlier this week, Ford invited us to Charlotte, NC, to ride in an all-new 2015 Mustang fitted with its turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. It's the first forced-induction, four-cylinder ponycar for the Blue Oval since the sun set on the 1986 Mustang SVO. We jumped at the opportunity, as only a handful of people have ever been in the passenger seat of this new car, and most automotive media won't get as close as we did until this fall.
As we revealed in our Deep Dive, Ford will slot this new turbocharged four as premium powerplant between its naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V6 and the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8. At last mention, the automaker said the direct-injected, all-aluminum engine will develop 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, returning the best fuel economy of the three powerplants in the process. History buffs will note that those figures are appreciably stouter than the 200 horses and 240 lb-ft that the '86 SVO realized out of the same displacement, and the latter's figures were hugely impressive at the time. On paper, the new EcoBoost four looks to be a good fit for most owners who want to balance performance with efficiency - we were eager to see how it felt from the passenger seat.
