Here is something you will not see very often.  A real blast from the past.  This is a 1977 Ford E250 Club Wagon van with a host of custom vanner upgrades and accessories.

Beginning with a Dana-70 dually rear end, tapered running boards, custom fiberglass fender flares (need some repair work), diamond-plate interior cargo floor, 8-ball shifter knob, custom bumpers, trailer hitch and more.  This is a great project for someone who enjoys customizing and working on their own vehicle.  The 3/4-ton rating and age provide for emission-exemption in most areas, which allows for the upgrade of a high performance gas engine or a diesel conversion.  It currently has a factory 351 Windsor installed.  Be sure to check your local emissions laws before considering.

This machine has been collecting dust for the past five years after my daily commute doubled, making it less practical for driving to work on nice days.  Moving it last weekend for a set of current photos has shown that the van still runs and drives but does not stop.  New rear wheel cylinders, new front calipers and master cylinder were installed in the past 5K miles, but that was a few years ago.  Oil pressure is still strong at normal operating temperature, as you will notice from the gauges photo.  As with any vehicle that has been parked for five years, it's best to plan on towing it to your destination.  The right front wheel is actually the spare, with a brand new (zero-mile) 16.5" tire installed.  Correct white painted rim will be included in the auction.  I also have a set of dually wheel simulators (wheel covers) which will be included in this auction.

I have owned this van for approximately ten years.  First saw it during the late'80's, as a low-mileage gold Club Wagon with unusual dually conversion upgrade in progress.  Fast forward another 15 years and the same van turned up again, just a few miles away from the first site, for sale at an Iron Art studio.  They were using it to transport exhibits and to showcase their custom fabrication work.  It was now painted gold/purple, wearing custom door panels, contained a bit more body filler than back in the 80's, and most of the dually conversion had been completed.

After purchasing from the Iron Art studio, I installed a new radiator, new carburetor, double-roller timing chain set and finished the dually conversion with correct front Budd wheels/heavy duty calipers.  It was fun to drive on nice days, also made for a very stable tow vehicle.  The long-term plan was to expand on the towing capability, by retrofitting the factory 351/C6 drivetrain with a late model 7.3 IDI diesel and automatic overdrive, as time allowed.  Also planned to replace the rusty doors and repaint the entire van.  I haven't had an opportunity to perform the upgrades, due to time constraints.

The auction winner will have first opportunity to purchase a separate 1991 E350 Cube Van with diesel engine and automatic overdrive, along with a pair of solid doors, for an additional $700 cash.

Terms of the auction are as follows: $250 deposit due immediately after auction end, payable in the form of Paypal.  Balance is due at the time of pickup, or within 7 days after auction end, payable in US Cash only.  This vehicle is being sold as-is, with no warranty.  Good luck and happy bidding!

2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid

No Prius Killer
As much as we enthusiasts like to rail on the lowly Toyota Prius as the harbinger of death for all we hold dear, there's no denying the machine's absolute and interminable grip on the hybrid hatchback market in the United States. Toyota has so thoroughly sunk its teeth into the segment that you can clearly hear the automaker's incisors clacking against one another with the conclusion of each financial quarter. And there's little wonder why. Buyers can plop down less than $25,000 and have a runabout that can return up to an estimated 51 miles per gallon in the city, leaving every other entry on the market with precious little gristle to gnaw on.
Enter the 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid. With its claimed 47 mpg combined, the funky little hatch from Europe already falls behind the 48 mpg city offered by the Prius, but that marginal sacrifice in fuel economy could be a small price to pay for buyers who want a credible alternative to the stalwart Toyota. Unfortunately, like the Fusion Hybrid, the C-Max Hybrid had trouble even approaching its Environmental Protection Agency estimates during our time with the car.

First retail 2015 Ford Mustang headed to Barrett-Jackson

Fri, 20 Dec 2013

Want to be the very first person to own a 2015 Ford Mustang GT? Here's what you'll need to do: be in Scottsdale, AZ on January 18 for the Barrett-Jackson auction and bring a very big checkbook. Having a passion for charity isn't a bad idea either.
Yes, the first 2015 Mustang to be sold to the public will be crossing the block at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, with proceeds from the auction going to JDRF, the charity formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
"Ford Mustangs have always been among the most popular collector cars at Barrett-Jackson Collector Car events," said the president of Barrett-Jackson, Steve Davis. "While every collector wishes they had snapped up the first Mustang sold in 1964, this is an opportunity to realize that dream in a different way."

Ford forced to recall Escape over fire risk yet again

Tue, 26 Nov 2013

Recalls happen. Automakers hope they won't, but they do. And that's alright, for the most part, because cars are designed (and to a large degree still made) by humans, and humans make mistakes. So we forgive them, as long as the problem is resolved. Only in the case of the Ford Escape, the problem seems to keep coming back.
That's why Ford is calling in the Escape yet again due to fire concerns. The issue revolves around problematic fuel lines in 9,469 units manufactured between October 5, 2011, and July 11, 2012, all of which use the 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline four-cylinder engine.
As you yourself may recall, the Escape was subject to a string of recalls last year that resulted in a $17 million fine. One of them was over this very same issue, which Ford apparently didn't rectify the first time around. Let's hope this time is the last time.
