ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This highly-optioned 1977 Ford Bronco has been restored to a very nice driver standard; it is "turn-key" in every way and features a V8, automatic transmission, power steering and power disc brakes. Clad in Ford Portofino Blue, paint quality is very good and all panels are straight with good gaps. Custom bumpers, black flares, a like-new Rampage soft top and BF Goodrich 33x12.50 all-terrain tires on alloy wheels complete the look. The truck has been photographed with the windows unzipped from the soft top, but of course they are included; the hard top pictured is available at reasonable additional cost. There is no known rust top or bottom; floors and rockers were professionally replaced during the restoration approximately four years ago.

The interior shows very well with brand new Tom's custom front bucket seats and rear fold-and-tumble seat; door panels are also new. The interior floors have been fully rhino lined for all-weather durability. The custom family-style roll cage has been powder coated to match the bumpers and is one of the best-designed we have seen; the glove box door stillopens normally without catching the cage. Three-point seat belts are fitted both front and rear. The upper soft dash pad has been removed to accommodate the roll cage, and the result is a crisp, clean look. The original factory gauges have been restored and all switches, indicators and lights are working properly. A new Grant wood steering wheel is a nice finishing touch.

The previous owner clearly spent a small fortune on this build; virtually every system on the truck has been serviced or restored. Under the hood is a rebuilt 351 cubic inch "Windsor" V8 mated to a rebuilt C4 automatic transmission. Fitted with headers and a four-barrel carb on an aluminum intake, it starts and runs very well and makes good power. The transmission has a shift kit installed; shifts are quick and firm without being jerky. The transfer case has been updated with Duff twin stick shifters; four wheel drive works properly in both high and low range. In addition to the rebuilt engine and transmission, the truck also has a rebuilt steering box and steering column, aluminum radiator, new exhaust, a high capacity main tank and brand new auxiliary tank. The brakes have also been serviced; brake booster and master cylinder are new.

This truck's suspension setup is particularly nice; it?s running a high-end James Duff 3.5-inch lift. The radius arm bushings, C-bushings and track bar bushings were all replaced when the lift was installed, and the steering linkages have also been rebuilt (and include heim joints in the Y-link). Ride quality is excellent.

All service and tune-up items are up-to-date; the truck has no known needs mechanically or cosmetically. It runs and drives beautifully and is no doubt a head turner. 1964 Ford GT40 prototype to be auctioned in April

Wed, 12 Mar 2014

The Ford GT40 owns a firm spot on the list of the greatest American racecars ever made, being the first car from the United States to take an overall win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And now Mecum will auction what it claims is second-oldest GT40 still in existence at its Houston sale on April 12.
The story of the GT40 is fascinating. Henry Ford II attempted to buy Ferrari in the early '60s, but Enzo refused. Ford decided if he couldn't have them, then he would beat the Prancing Horse on the track. Ford went to Carroll Shelby and asked him to spearhead the program. The early cars combined a steel monocoque chassis with Ford's 4.2-liter V8 engine pumping out around 350 horsepower. The first prototype made its public debuted on April 1, 1964, at the New York Auto Show.
Shelby kept building prototypes, including GT/104, which is for sale here. This version featured a lighter steel chassis and was raced at Le Mans in 1964. However, a fire forced it to retire. It was then repainted and had a 4.7-liter (289-cubic-inch) engine fitted. The chassis had its best finish at the 1965 Daytona Continental 2,000 Kilometers where it finished third with Bob Bondurant and Ritchie Ginther behind the wheel. Later that season, it was shipped back to Ford where it was restored and displayed at auto shows until 1971 when the automaker sold it. Since then, it has had many private owners.

Ford considering return to Le Mans with new EcoBoost LMP2

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

If you want to see a Ford racing prototype, you need look no further than the United SportsCar Championship, where the Blue Oval fields two Daytona Prototypes powered by an EcoBoost-branded 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. But according to the latest rumors, that may not be enough for Ford, which has as much brand to promote overseas as it does back home.
That could be why Racer magazine is reporting that Ford may be poised to return to Le Mans in the coming years. As we all know, Ford competed at Le Mans in the mid-through-late '60s, bringing home four consecutive overall wins with the legendary GT40. The new program would not, according to Racer, seek to relive those glory days, but would instead compete for class wins in the LMP2 category.
Currently, LMP2 regulations are somewhat split between the United SportsCar Championship in North America on the one hand and ACO-sanctioned series like the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and FIA World Endurance Championship on the other, but plans are underway for the regulations to be unified in time for the 2017 season. That could be when Ford is targeting its return, allowing it to compete on both sides of the Atlantic to maximize its exposure.
