You are bidding on a very nice cosmetically restored 1953 Buick "Special" 2-door Hardtop. Here is brief history on the vehicle: I purchased the car about ten years ago from an older genteman in Pilot Mountain, NC with the intention of keeping it forever; however times have changed and I need the money for personal reasons. I began to cosmetically restore the car after driving it for a while. The original lacquor paint was beginning to crack and spider-web so I decided to have it stripped and re-painted. It was repainted with expoxy primer and base-coat clear-coat about 5 years ago. The paint is still excellent. I restored the seats and replaced all door panels in the original type design and material. Later had all the chrome parts re-plated and stainless pieces polished, except for the emblems. Later while driving it the transmission went out and I had it completely rebuilt. This car runs and drives great! This is a rare cosmetically restored 52K actual miles with out any rust at all - ever! Original 6 volt system with new original style battery and new starter. Below is a list of the costs incurred while completing the restoration: 1. Paid $6500 for car in 2003; 2. Paid $3500 for stripping and painting; 3. Paid $2500 to restore interior; 4. Paid $2900 for lifetime chrome work; 5. Paid $1400 to rebuild transmission; 6. Paid $300 to rework brakes and tune-up; 7. Paid approx. $500 for wide whitewal tires and other miscellaneous parts, etc. The following are things that may need to be completed: 1. Headliner began to deteriorate and needs to be replaced; 2. Eblems need to be restored; 3. Two rear quarter windows are "frosty" in the corners and could be replaced; (all glass is original) (see picture) 4. Rocker panel molding on driver's side has a small dent; (see picture) 5. Trunk needs new trunk mat. As you can see I have $17,000 plus invested in the car. It will have a reserve much less than what I have invested, but please bid accordingly and don't let this deal pass you by. Happy Bidding! Please contact Charles @ 336-584-6460 for more details or question. |

2013 Buick Encore nets strong IIHS, NHTSA safety scores
Wed, 05 Jun 2013After being crushed from every which way and rolled over like a labrador, the 2013 Buick Encore has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn the accolade, a vehicle must achieve the highest rating of "Good" in each of the institute's four main crash tests: Front Moderate Overlap, Side, Rollover and Rear. The Encore aced those four tests with "Good" ratings, but missed out on the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation by receiving a Poor rating in the institute's new Front Small Overlap test. To be named a Top Safety Pick+, the Encore would need to score at least an "Acceptable" rating in the new test, as well as "Good" in all four original crash tests.
Despite the miss, the Encore joins the Enclave, LaCrosse, Verano and Regal as Top Safety Picks all. If you count only the Encore with all-wheel drive, then all five Buicks have also earned five-star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration, making Buick one of the few manufacturers to offer a full lineup with high scores from both safety rating organizations.
The front-wheel-drive Encore, despite performing equally as well as the all-wheel-drive version in NHTSA's crash tests, only earned four stars overall. As far as we can tell, the discrepancy between the two is because some safety equipment, like Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Assist, are optional features on the FWD Encore and standard on the AWD model.
2014 Buick Regal GS
Mon, 09 Sep 2013A few months ago I drove the 2014 Buick LaCrosse and wrote up a First Drive review of it. For all of my quibbles with that sedan (and I had a fair number), I understand that it speaks to the heart of what new Buick loyalists like in a car; it's roomy, has a cushy ride and is as placid as a summer's morning at highway speeds.
Those qualities, while undeniably desirable, don't mean a whole lot to me personally. I prefer sedans that conjure up words like "nimble," "punchy" or even "raucous" on occasion. So, directionally, the high-performance GS version of the 2014 Buick Regal is more my cup of tea than any other car in the company's current range.
In fact, I'd already come to know the Regal GS from its 2012 model year introduction, and grown more than a little fond of the sporting sedan in its original front-wheel-drive, six-speed-manual guise. The fast, sweet-handling car with well-sorted controls may have suffered from a slight identity crisis in terms of pricing (and may still), but it was undeniably fun to drive. So, when I heard that the GS was coming to market for 2014 with optional all-wheel drive (albeit only in combination with a six-speed automatic transmission), I was stoked to have another go and concentrated my driving impressions on the AWD car.
Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards
Fri, 22 Feb 2013The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
