Here is a very nice, very clean 1974 Buick LeSabre Convertible. 5.7L 350 Buick motor. 71,320 original miles. This is the 'Luxus' model, which I believe was only offered for 1974 convertibles only. This is a seldom seen model, with only 3,627 produced. When's the last time you seen one? This is a good running, and driving car. Hop in, and drive. It is not perfect, but is in exceptional condition and is absolutely worth throwing some money at over time and having a high dollar, rare, convertible. Wheels are in good shape, and show well. Tires are in good shape too. Bumpers are nice, light scratches and fading, normal wear, still nice though. The paint has some scratches, and touch-ups and fading in 1 or 2 areas. Overall it shows quite well, but is far from perfect. 10-footer. The body has no rot, and is straight. Some rust bubbleing up around the LH rear qtr under the paint, see pic, is the worst rust on the body, and it's minimal. There's a few 'dime-sized' dings here and there, but not many. The top is in fair condition, goes up and down on it's own just fine, top is ok, has a small tear or 2, but is in good shape otherwise. I personally would eventually replace it, but is 100% functional and useable as is. Has clear plastic rear window. Comes with white vinyl boot cover. Cover has seemed to have slightly shrunk over time and is kind of a pain to put on, but maybe you can stretch it back out. Interior is in great shape. Carpet is decent, dash has no cracks. Door panels, arm rests, and trim in excellent shape. Has 8-track AM/FM radio. Back speakers still work, front is shot. All electrical functions front to back work 100%. No A/C. Seats are the only real issue with the interior. The front seat needs to be re-upholstered. It is ripped, and needs to be re-covered. The bottom half of the rear has 2 blemishes, that someone tried to repair? Other than that, the back seat is in great shape, and for that matter so is the rest of the interior. No power options, the crank windows go up and down perfect. All glass in excellent shape. Steering wheel and column looks great and functions perfect. Brakes work great, and car rides nice and smooth. Underbody is very clean, frame is solid, and all floors, with the exception of the rear drivers, are perfect. Not sure why this one area rotted out, given how clean the rest of the underside is, but, is a pretty simple repair for anyone who can weld, and is not that big of an area. Under the hood has fresh air filter, spark plugs and wires, and oil change. Also has new emergeny brake cables. Transmission shifts as it should. Car starts right up and runs good. The bad: Like I said, the body and top are nice, but not perfect, and the seats need attention. And the floorpan. The battery doesn't hold a charge if it sits for a few days. When it's started everyday it's fine. The heater core doesn't work, and has been disconnected and bypassed. I just haven't had time to fix it. Headlight buckets have pitting in the chrome, and so does the taillight trim. The exhaust has a light grumble, due to a leak at the manifold and y-pipe connection. Not bad at all, it's just not silent. I want whoever considers buying this car to have no worries or un-answered questions. Please call or email with any questions you have. I am looking for a fair price, and will accept a reasonable offer. Car will not be given away. Thanks for looking, and again, please call with any questions you have. -Ryan 585-520-2440. !!!!---->Please visit my Flickr photo page where you can find many more photos of the car. Simply go to Flickr.com, and go to caprala23's photo page. I will be adding more pictures tomorrow of inside the trunk and the underbody, and I can add more at you're request anytime.

GM to offer 2 years free maintance on most 2014 models

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

A day after Ford announced it was scaling back the complimentary maintenance program for its Lincoln brand, General Motors has gone in the completely opposite direction, offering most of its 2014 lineup with free maintenance. Since 2011, Cadillac models have all come with a four-year/50,000-mile complimentary maintenance program, but Chevrolet, Buick and GMC vehicles will now come standard with free maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles for the 2014 model year.
The program will give vehicle owners and lessees free oil changes, tire rotations and 27-point inspections following the recommended maintenance schedule laid out in each vehicle's owner's manual. We contacted GM to see which vehicles were eligible for the program, and a spokesperson got back to us with the following comment:
"All 2014 models are eligible, it's just that the included services vary by model, e.g., Spark EV would not need oil changes, Corvettes don't recommend tire rotations."

A Nice, New Buick Aims For Middle Of The Road
Any time someone describes some portion of a car or a driving experience as being "nice," I want to either A) throttle them or B) run as fast and as far as I can from that vehicle. "Nice" is among the most insidious words in the English language - at best it's vague, and at worst, it conveys the exact opposite of its literal meaning. Yet it seems to be used with damnable frequency when it comes to verbally illustrating vehicles. "It looks really nice," or "These seats feel nice," or, heaven forefend, "It's got a nice ride," are all windy signifiers of absolutely nothing resembling a concrete opinion. "Nice" is the adjectival equivalent of meekly smiling and nodding your head.
Of course, I'm as guilty as the next person of having thrown English's least powerful descriptor around. There's even a chance that, rant aside, you'll catch me making nice in reviews to come. That's fine, but you should know that when you stumble upon such usage, past or future, that you've found a sentence in which I'm simply applying a bare minimum of effort to the task.

What's in a trademark? Sometimes, the next iconic car name

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

The United States Patent and Trademark Office is a treasure trove for auto enthusiasts, especially those who double as conspiracy theorists.
Why has Toyota applied to trademark "Supra," the name of one of its legendary sports cars, even though it hasn't sold one in the United States in 16 years? Why would General Motors continue to register "Chevelle" long after one of the most famous American muscle cars hit the end of the road? And what could Chrysler possibly do with the rights to "313," the area code for Detroit?
