Every single feature on the car works except the power trunk release (you need to use the key). The key fob also stopped unlocking the car from a distance about two weeks ago.As far as the exterior, there are some minor scratches on the front bumper, and one on the passengers side skirt. The plastic covering the drivers side fog light is cracked (cosmetic damage only). Other than that everything is perfect, including the rims which are pristine.Interior: Leather seats show NO signs of wear, carpets are fresh too. There are a few pixels that are out on the dashboard, but I would say 95-98% are going strong. The passenger's side reading light is burnt out, and the cupholders are finicky. Other than that, EVERYTHING WORKSPowertrain: Flawless. The car pulls like it just left the factory. Clutch has been babied, and the transmission shifts smoothly."

I have a 2002 BMW 540i with 6-speed manual and sport package for sale. 100% clean carfax, title in hand. I'm asking $7,500 for the car. How did I arrive at the price? Kelley Blue Book says about $7300 given condition and mileage (157k). The Carfax report says it's worth about $600 over blue book, totaling $7,900. The car does need new tires, so I subtracted $500 off the asking price.

I tried to be as detailed as possible with this listing, but if there's anything I missed or additional pictures you would like to see, feel free to message me (I will respond very promptly).

Background:
I am selling this car because I am moving back to Boston. I purchased this car three months ago because I needed a car to get to work at my job over the summer. I wanted a BMW 5-series because they drive like nothing else on the road, and I needed a car that could fit the other two co-workers I was going to carpool with. After spending two weeks looking, I finally found this 540i with the M sport package that a middle aged man was selling so he could buy a new 5 series. I have honestly never seen a better maintained car with 155k miles on the odometer. A few scratches on the front bumper and the power trunk release not working are the only signs that this car has been driven.

I am moving August 27th so the car has to sell by then. If possible, I would prefer to keep the car until the 23rd (my last day of work), but if you need to pick it up sooner I can be flexible. I understand it is common practice to lowball sellers who are moving, but I really won't start sweating unless I somehow haven't sold this car a few days before I leave :)

If you would like to check out the car in person, it is located near Alviso during business hours, and South San Jose on weekends and evenings.

Bunny couldn't out hop a BMW M3 on-track

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Driving a car is a dangerous hobby, and not just because of other drivers or poor roads. Sometimes, it seems like even the wildlife is out to get you, as evidenced here, here, here, here and here. Now, we can add one more unfortunate car-versus-animal encounter to the tally.
Perhaps believing that this bright orange BMW M3 GTS was a very fast, very loud carrot, an unfortunate bunny leaped into its windshield in a brutal accident at a Polish racetrack. Considering the M3's speed at the time, 89 miles per hour, the passengers are lucky to be okay. Obviously, Bugs didn't make it.
The BMW isn't in such great shape, though. The windshield is in a bit of a state, with safety glass sprayed all over the passenger side of the cabin. There doesn't appear to be any sheetmetal damage, at least from what we can tell from the video. Although there isn't any blood, the hit is really hard. The initial point of impact is at 0:57. Check out the video below.

Alpina D3 may be coming to Frankfurt with 350 hp, AWD

Wed, 14 Aug 2013

Rumors are swirling that Alpina, the tuning house that specializes in all things BMW, will followup its Geneva debut of the B3 Bi-Turbo with an oil-burning variant slated for debut at September's Frankfurt Motor Show. The news comes from Auto Zeitung, which reports that the second-generation D3 will be based off the Europe-only 335d.
This is a departure from the last D3, which had the four-cylinder turbo-diesel from the BMW 123d in a 3 Series body. The new model is expected to use a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged inline-six, which will generate 350 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That should scoot it to 62 miles per hour in under five seconds (likely while towing a tree stump). Both rear- and all-wheel drive should be available on the D3, and we imagine the thrill of this much power channeled through just the two rear wheels to be akin to skydiving sans parachute.
For our European friends that want an Alpina D3, but don't need more torque than any American full-size pickup, there may be plans to offer a four-cylinder variant that still delivers Alpina performance without a compromise in economy. We'll have more on the Alpina D3 when it debuts at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Why BMW doesn't plan to integrate Apple's iOS in the Car

Wed, 12 Jun 2013

While watching Apple introduce iOS in the Car during its WWDC keynote on Monday, we wondered how automakers, even the 14 who've already signed up to integrate this new in-car functionality of iOS 7, will feel about having the Cupertino company's mobile operating system supplant their own in-car systems. After all, some OEMs like Ford, General Motors and many luxury automakers have sunk millions of dollars into developing their own advanced infotainment, navigation and communication platforms like MyFord Touch, CUE and older systems like iDrive.
One automaker has now spoken up. A BMW spokeperson was interviewed by someone in the news department of British auto dealer group Arnold Clark and confirmed that the company would not be getting in line to integrate iOS in the Car anytime soon. The reason, as we suspected, is that BMW believes its own products developed over the last decade are both plenty good and already so deeply integrated with other systems of the car that, as told to Arnold Clark, "it would not be that straightforward to start changing all of the architecture of a car as has been implied [by Apple]."
While BMW isn't interested in spending more money to integrate Apple's services and functionality over its own, it has spent a good bit already to integrate iPhone functionality in its cars, including the relatively rare ability to support iPod Out and display Apple's own interface on Mini models with the optional Mini Connected feature, as well as committing to integrate Siri 'Eyes Free' functionality.
