This 1988 BMW 325i convertible was bought a few years ago for my daughter. I'm a car enthusiast and have owned somewhere close to 20 E30 chassis BMWs, so this was a natural choice for my daughter's first car.

I bought it with a bad transmission and installed a good used one, and the car has been flawless ever since. This is a perfectly reliable car with nothing really wrong with it. The top is in good shape and doesn't leak, all of the windows work well, the power steering and cruise control work, the radio works well enough (1988 wasn't a great year for car stereos), and it generally drives the way a BMW should.  My daughter had a long drive to school each way, so I always kept up with every bit of scheduled maintenance–and then some.

The car's only issues are a few little tears in the front seats and a bent front bumper. Somebody in a pickup truck backed into the car in a parking lot, and just put a square dent in the bumper with the receiver hitch. The car comes with a good used front bumper.

This car has absolutely no rust, and runs and drives beautifully.

If you have any other questions, or if you would like to see the car, please email my son at Tom@GrassrootsMotorsports.com or at (386) 239-0523. Test drives, inspections, etc. are always welcome.

My daughter just informed me that the heated seats aren't actually working. The wiring is there, but when we replaced the seats with better ones we lost the seat heaters.

Update: the radio is now asking for a code before it will turn on.

2014 BMW i3

A Purer Than Ever Sort Of Driving Pleasure
This all started back in 2007 when the megacity urbanization trend hit full stride and BMW began brainstorming the 2020 future of mobility. The product was thus originally called the BMW MegaCity vehicle. Then the 'i' division of BMW was officially born in 2011, and we have since been exposed to various "leaked" images and official prototype unveilings of both this i3 and the i8 eco sports car. The latter (called i12 in the halls of Munich) was originally called the Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics and presented as a diesel-hybrid.
The time is now upon us for the market launch of the plug-in i3 (called i01 internally). The wider motoring public already has its opinions and BMW is listening to all of them, so there's a bundle of nerves around these limited drives of the i3 for a select few members of the media, Autoblog included. We came to an airfield outside of Munich and were handed an i3 test car to drive around a set course filled with blue- and white-striped cones. BMW tech experts were everywhere and some of the discussions around the various technical displays even got a little heated.

2015 BMW i8 sets everyone's tongues wagging in Northern Michigan

Fri, 31 Oct 2014

Like few other cars we can remember, people want to talk about the 2015 BMW i8. Drive one, and you'll soon find out what we mean. They stop you at gas stations. They accost you in Walgreen's parking lots. They stream out of neighborhood bars, beers in hand.
At least, that was our experience this week during Autoblog's Technology of the Year testing. We had the pleasure of driving the plug-in hybrid BMW sports car up to and around Petoskey, MI, a resort town where seeing such exotics is rare enough, let alone in the off season. It made for some interesting conversations - so we began writing down some of the comments the butterfly-doored coupe inspired. Here's a sampling:
"Wanna race for pinks? I'll go easy on you." - Acne-covered teenage pizza delivery driver in a sad-looking Ford Taurus parked at a Valero gas station near Grayling (which incidentally didn't actually have gas).

BMW X4 opens up alongside its boxier brother

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

It doesn't seem so long ago that BMW (not to mention Audi, Volvo and a handful of other European automakers) weren't in the crossover market. But it's been over a decade since BMW began producing the first-gen X5, and in the fourteen years since, the Bavarian automaker has steadily expanded its portfolio to include the X1, X3 and X6.
The next to join the family will be the X4, which is essentially to the X3 what the X6 is to the X5. That is to say, basically the same vehicle, only with an (arguably) more stylish but less utile roofline. Previewed in concept form at the Shanghai Auto Show half a year ago, the X4 has been snapped by our plucky paparazzi in the past, but this is the first time we've seen inside.
Not only that, but the prototype in question was spotted next to the current X3 on which it is based, which gives us ample opportunity to see the differences between them. Of course, that still primarily comes down to the slantback profile, because otherwise, the two are essentially the same inside and out. Or at least they will be: many of the differences between the two are expected to port over to the X3 when it's refreshed next year, including some subtle interior upgrades - just not the roofline.
