Karman Ghia Convertible 1974. 98% original. 35,700 documented miles. A good investment (increased 15% in last year according to Hagerty’s) that comes with more fun than should be allowed. This car has been driven less than a 1000 miles a years in it’s 40 years. I am the second owner. Always garaged and rarely driven in rain. Maintenance for the first 24,000 miles was religiously performed by the Volkswagen dealer that sold the car new. See picture of maintenance stamps in the original owner’s manual. This Ghia is as pure a version of an original condition unmolested convertibles as you are likely to find. The 1584 cc engine, seats, carpet, dash, drop top, head liner, transmission, and trunk are all original, untouched and show no signs of wear. The exterior was repainted the original zambezi green color over all rust free panels about 12 years ago. The tires have been replaced save for the spare that is original to the car. The rocker panels and chassis pans are solid as new. The VIN, date plate, and bulkhead numbers all match as recorded in the original owner’s manual. This car performs as new with a strong running engine with no drips that starts every time, smooth shifting, excellent braking and a tight and smooth suspension. Items that you may want to attend to: -1 1/4 in. star chip in windshield. -2 1/2 in. scratches in drives side window. -Front drivers side bumper bracket boot is torn. -Front passenger side lower wheel well has a 2” rust through. -Carpet throughout is soiled but no stains. -Paint surrounding the passenger side Karman badge has (2) 1/4 in. chips. Just to primer, no rust. -One wheel cover has small rust area.
Not even a meticulously restored Karman Ghia can replicate the character, patina, and scent that this original vehicle shows.

VW internal investigation finds 'no evidence' against suspended engineers
Tue, Oct 6 2015Volkswagen is still working out the chain of events that led to emissions-evading software being installed in 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide and deciding who was responsible for the treachery. So far, the German automotive giant's internal investigation hasn't publicly named many suspects, and three suspended executive-level engineers have been found not to be culpable in the wrongdoing, according to an anonymous insider speaking to Reuters. VW knows that the software began being installed in the EA 189 engine in 2008. The internal investigation has found that the emissions-evading tech was created because the powerplant was found to fail US standards. Plus, the diesel mill wasn't meeting cost targets, according to Reuters. The automaker responded by suspending over 10 employees, but three top engineers among them might not have been involved. Those put on leave include Heinz-Jakob Neusser from VW, Ulrich Hackenberg from Audi, and Wolfgang Hatz who led Porsche's research and group-wide engine development. The internal detective work hasn't turned up any evidence against these three men. In addition to VW's own inquires, government investigators in both the US and Germany are taking a serious look into the company's actions, too. So far, the automaker is setting aside about $7.3 billion to pay to fix the vehicles with the evasive software. Depending on what authorities find, the costs could grow quickly. Beyond the financial implications, the scandal has led to a serious shakeup in VW's corporate structure. Related Video:
Even 'basic' girls are tired of their cheating VW Jettas
Sat, Sep 26 2015Well, this didn't take long. Former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn's office probably hasn't even been packed yet, and the jokes about his scandal-ridden former employer have already begun to fly. Today, we'll be featuring the team from Funny Or Die, which has opted to not only skewer Volkswagen for its TDIsaster, but one of the victims of the company's catastrophe – the 'basic' girl. For those not in the know, "basic," according to Urban Dictionary is an adjective reserved for someone "devoid of defining characteristics that might make a person interesting, extraordinary, or just simply worth devoting time or attention to," and that they are "lacking intelligence and unable to socialize on even an elementary level." And when it comes to basic girls, the Volkswagen Jetta is as ubiquitous as a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte. But with the VW controversy, basic girls are finding their Jettas aren't so good for their green credentials. So check out Funny Or Die's take on these scorned drivers, in the video above. And fair warning, there's a bit of foul language.
VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes
Sun, 06 Jan 2013The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.
