Very rare 1990 factory Turbo Diesel Syncro Single Cab Transporter.  207000 kms/129K.  1.6L (JX code) Turbo Diesel, 4WD Syncro.  Sold new in Germany as a workman's truck.  It was maintained through it's life and drives very nicely it does however show regular "patina" as expected with a workhorses lifestyle.  As the pictures show it still has plenty of curb appeal and generates compliments every time I drive it.

Mechanically, it starts excellent even in very cold weather.  It has good power (similar or slightly better than a waterboxer) and yet turns excellent fuel economy.  Some might claim to break the 30mpg mark but I've not quite been able to achieve this.  The brakes have been inspected and renewed as necessary.  They stop straight, firm and without shimmy/wobble.  The steering feels tight and positive on the road.  The trans shifts very smoothly between all gears, warm or cold.  This is a non-locker unit. Oils and filters are fresh.  Tires are brand new BF Goodrich All Terrains in 215/75 R15s.  They're mounted on super rare Australian 5 spoke 5x112 T3 Alloys.  Been saving these rims for years for the right rig.  Personally I think they suit the truck perfectly.

Exterior, it's largely original paint with some touch ups over the years.  It shows well.   Windows have been tinted with quality Llumar tint.  All lights, wipers and other safety gear works as it should.  The undercarriage on this truck is very clean for its age.  To me, it is the selling point of the truck.  It must have never seen snow and seen only inside storage during it's life in Germany.  Only the lightest surface rust on certain components, the rest are original paint.  I have detailed undercarriage pictures I can send to interested parties. Working underneath is a real treat, as components come apart like they're supposed to!  If you've ever worked on a salt encrusted vehicle you'll know preciously what I mean.  Please review the pictures closely, I've tried to take very detailed and honest pictures of the truck.  It shows well- the pictures clearly show that but it is 23 years old and was used as it was intended and as such it's not perfect nor is being advertised as such.  For someone who want's a clean solid Turbo Diesel 4wd truck they can actually use- this is perfect.

Interior.  Three person set up.  I added an upgraded T3 seat with armrests.  I tried to get a set that closely matched the 2 person bench and think I achieved that goal as well as possible with factory North American VW offerings.  All the glass is in good condition.  Gauges all work as they should.  Both windows rise/lower properly and both vent wings open/secure as they should.  Door handles inner and outer work as they should.  The factory rubber flooring shows pretty good considering it's job and it's age.  It has a bit of green paint that never bothered me enough to scrape or paint black- I'll leave that to the new owners discretion.

VIN: WV2ZZZ24ZLG094564  A 1990 model, not 1980 but eBay's system doesn't recognize imported VINs.

I have in my possession a clear Ontario registration/title.  If the seller requires assistance with importing or shipping, I'll gladly assist but the costs are the buyers exclusively.

I have plenty of other pictures.  I can send them to interested parties.

Volkswagen could outsell GM in China for the first time in nine years

Fri, 27 Dec 2013

As of the end of November, Volkswagen had sold 70,000 more cars than General Motors in China in 2013, making it appear inevitable that VW will outsell GM there. The feat would return the German brand to the top of chart in China for the first time in nine years, but even the second-place getter won't be complaining too loudly: both automakers sold more than three million vehicles in a market pegged to hit 16 million sales this year.
Volkswagen said it could have sold more cars if it had had more production capacity in China. The arrival of a new-to-China Audi A4, a China-built A3 sedan, the VW Bora and Skoda Octavia, as well as an $18.2-billion-euro investment in the country to construct new factories, means VW should see its numbers grow in 2014. GM's lineup is expanding next year, too, adding four Chevrolet nameplates and two vehicles to its Baojun brand as it tries to get to five million in sales by 2015.
Among other automakers, Ford benefited from good product and woes for Japanese automakers over a territorial dispute with China, outselling Toyota by almost 32,000 units through the end of November. The Ford Focus is China's best-selling vehicle so far this year.

How the VW diesels perform in cheat mode

Fri, Oct 9 2015

Are you tired of the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal? Yeah? We are, too. But here's a story that, at the very least, gives us something resembling answers about one of the most important questions surrounding the firestorm – how will the affected cars perform when they're in their emissions-cheating test mode? Consumer Reports was able to find out, tapping into what it believes is the cheat mode. By turning the car to accessory mode, flipping on the hazards, and tapping the gas pedal five times, CR was able to defeat the auto-engaged traction and stability controls, which it believes activates cheat mode. The safeties will reengage if it detects the rear wheels spinning, so the next step was what CR called "a hack." The team unplugged the rear wheel sensors, so the car's computers couldn't tell whether the wheels were spinning. By the way, don't try this at home. With that done, CR hit the road, testing both a 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI and a 2015 Jetta TDI sedan in their normal and cheat modes. Why both cars? Well, the 2011 uses the EA188 diesel, which represents the bulk of the affected cars, while the newer Jetta uses the latest EA288, which just arrived for model year 2015. The results are, in a word, interesting. The EA188 engine lost 0.6 seconds on the way to 60 miles per hour while in emissions-compliant cheat mode, and fuel economy fell from 50 miles per gallon to 46. For the newer EA288, the 0-60 difference was negligible – just a tenth of a second – while the fuel economy dipped from 53 to 50 mpg. There are a few takeaways here. First of all, and as suspected, running in cheat mode did hurt both performance and fuel economy. But perhaps more importantly, even in emissions-compliant mode, both vehicles easily beat their EPA fuel economy estimates. According to FuelEconomy.gov, the highest rated 2011 TDI Sportwagen, the manual-trans model, was rated at 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway, with a combined rating of 34 (the auto drops the city and combined ratings by one mpg, while the highway falls by three). The best a 2015 Jetta TDI sedan can do according to Uncle Sam, meanwhile, is 31 city, 46 highway, and 36 combined with the manual (again, the auto is worse, but only by a single highway mpg). Munich prosecutors arrest Audi employee in emissions probe

Fri, Jul 7 2017

Munich prosecutors arrested an Audi employee on suspicion of fraud and false advertising in connection with the carmaker's emissions scandal, the first arrest in Germany related to Volkswagen's diesel scandal. The Audi employee was arrested on Monday, at the behest of Munich prosecutors, a spokeswoman for the Munich prosecutors office said on Friday. When asked if the arrest was at the request of US authorities, the spokeswoman said it was not. She did not give the name of the person. Munich prosecutors declined to comment on whether the arrested person is a current or former Audi employee. Audi and parent Volkswagen both declined to comment. On Thursday, the US Justice Department said it charged former manager Giovanni Pamio with directing Audi employees to design software to cheat US emissions tests in thousands of Audi diesel cars. Audi is a division of Volkswagen Group. The Munich prosecutor's office said the Audi employee was brought before a judge on Tuesday and was now being held in custody. The spokeswoman declined to discuss the possibility of the detained person being extradited to another country or comment on whether Munich prosecutors were in touch with US authorities. The German arrest was part of a wider probe into fraud and false advertising and is a consequence of "findings following searches," the spokeswoman said. In March, Munich prosecutors searched the offices of Jones Day, the lawfirm Volkswagen had hired to lead an internal investigation into its emissions scandal and Audi's headquarters. Volkswagen condemned the searches at the time, and never published the full findings of its internal investigation which was being conducted by Jones Day. The raids by Munich prosecutors in March sought to shed light on who was involved in the designing and using illicit software used in 80,000 VW, Audi and Porsche cars with bigger 3.0-liter engines. No members of the Audi management board are being personally investigated as part of that probe, the spokeswoman said on Friday. In the criminal complaint released by US authorities on Thursday, US prosecutors charged that Pamio ignored or suppressed warnings by certain Audi engineers that the pollution control systems being used on the brand's diesel engines violated US clean air rules. US prosecutors said Pamio had ordered subordinates to send false information to American regulators stating that Audi's "clean diesels" did not use technology designed to cheat federal pollution tests.
