Up for bid is a super efficient 2002 New Beetle TDI with the legendary 1.9L ALH series diesel. This example has only 79k miles and runs like a top. Expertly maintained by an ASE certified VW Master Tech who is a personal friend of mine. This car was purchased for my daughter to drive to high school. No expense has been spared in its upkeep.
We purchased it from the estate of a family friend in Tampa FL with 27k on the odometer a little over 3 years ago. I have listed the services done to the car both prior to us acquiring it and since we have owned it. Mechanically it is a 10/10. There are no lights on the dash, engine runs as new, transmission shifts smoothly and all power options are working properly. Inspection is welcomed by your certified mechanic at your own expense by appointment. The interior is smoke free and clean. There are no rips, stains or strange odors. There are however a few common VW cosmetic issues on the interior. They are listed below for your consideration. I would rate the interior a 7.5/10. The body is rust free and the undercarriage is very clean. The car has only seen 3 NE winters and was washed regularly. There are some dings and small dents around the car. These are the results of parking lots and the like. The elderly gentlemen we purchased the car from impacted a workbench in his garage shortly before he stopped driving. This created a small hole in the front bumper cover and some scratches in the paint in that area. Pictures are included. I would rate the body 8/10. The paint really shines nicely and there is absolutely no rust. We are selling the car as my daughter is attending school in NYC and a car there is not allowed. With a little cosmetic TLC the car would be mint. Car comes with winter wheels with studded snow tires and many spare filters. 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR is black and yellow, black and yellow
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Way back in 1973, Volkswagen decided it was high time to take the loveable air-cooled Bug racing. No, it wasn't painted in Herbie colors - Volkswagen called its sport-tuned machine the Beetle GSR, "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer." Hence, the somewhat shocking paint scheme.
VW is bringing its sporty black and yellow Beetle back for 2014, and you can see live photos of it above. It's got a 210-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood (that'd be the hood up front, unlike the car's forebear), and a six-speed manual or DSG automatic transmission sends those ponies to the front wheels. Note that this car's output is up 10 horses on other turbo VWs, and the Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo for 2013. The 0-60 run takes 6.6 seconds, and top speed is limited to 130 miles per hour.
Besides the in-your-face black and yellow paint, the GSR is outfitted with a large rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels shod with 235/40 tires. The bee-like hue carries over inside, with yellow stitching on black leather. Only 3,500 will be produced, each with its own unique plaque. Pricing has not yet been announced, but you're free to read through the press release below all the same.
France may scrap diesel fuel subsidies in wake of VW scandal
Tue, Oct 13 2015Now that a particular German automaker has sneezed, it appears that French automotive subsidies will catch a cold. Count France among the growing legion of countries not happy about Volkswagen's admission that some of its diesel vehicles contain software that will artificially reduce emissions levels during testing. As a result, the French government is talking about reducing or eliminating diesel subsidies that make diesel fuel about 15 cents per liter (roughly 89 cents a gallon) cheaper than gas. The change would tax gas and diesel at the same rate. France may end the diesel tax credits as soon as the next fiscal year, Bloomberg News says, citing comments from French Environment Minister Segolene Royal this week. About two-thirds of the cars on France's roads are diesel, according to the CCFA, the French automaker association. In fact, diesels accounted for more than half of the new light-duty vehicles sold in Europe last year. That may drop to 35 percent by 2022 in part because of the scandal, according to automotive consultant LMC Automotive. Things could change even more France is considering letting more vehicles qualify for the 10,000-euro incentive for switching from old diesels to new plug-in vehicles. Last month, VW said that its cheater software might be installed in as many as 11 million vehicles, forcing the German automaker to set aside $7.3 billion to address the fallout from the scandal. Among other issues, VW and its Audi division were stripped of its Green Car of the Year Awards for the first time in the history of the awards bestowed by Green Car Journal. The scandal also forced Martin Winterkorn to resign as VW's CEO last month after eight years on the job and is delaying a number of the automaker's upcoming projects. Europeans get first crack at new Golf Variant wagon
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Just last week, when we brought you news of a new Volkswagen Golf variant out and testing in Europe, we had no idea we were being so literal with out description. For it seems that VW has every intention of calling its new Golf wagon, making its Geneva debut, the "Golf Variant."
Odd/interesting sobriquets taken as read then, there's a lot to like about this new small wagon from VW. The Variant will shed some 232 pounds in this generation, and will come to market with two efficient TDI engines. Volkswagen isn't giving us displacement figures for either yet, but we're told the diesels will come with outputs of 110 and 150 horsepower. The 110-hp TDI BlueMotion Varient will be good for a whopping 71.3 miles per gallon on the European cycle, when mated to the six-speed manual transmission.
The German automaker has brought along an all-wheel-drive 4Motion version of the Gold Variant to bow in Geneva, as well, and a natural gas-burning TGI BlueMotion is said to be "in the pipeline."
