Up for auction is "Rosie", my daughters local college transportation. This was her first car and we have been keeping it for sentimental reasons as well as it is just plain fun to drive. It gets lots of oohs and aahs along with 40-50 MPG. We have always garaged this car, but it needs to find a home that will drive it more often. Only 11,000 miles have been put on this car going to and from local college since purchased it in 2009.
I have receipts showing over $7,000 spent on the car in the last 21,000 miles of the cars history. Repairs include the following by myself or the previous owner: Current odometer 135,765 Rebuilt 1.6L diesel engine installed @ 114,000 miles.Professionally built by RPM Performance Engines. Original 1.5L was not worthy of rebuilding. New Clutch and all hoses/belts during engine rebuild These repairs totaled $3500 New front and rear brakes/calipers @114,000 miles New shocks/struts/wheel bearings and seals @118,000 miles Re-paint to original Miami Blue @ 120,000 miles. Done in 2008. Cost $1300 New CV boots @ 125,000 miles Installed 200W sound system with subwoofer. Rebuilt alternator/starter @ 130,000 miles New tires New Battery Rebuilt injector pump @ 133,000 miles. $1,000 All new shifter bushings Current odometer is 135,765 All repairs done by professional shops between 2006 and 2014 The car has averaged 4300 miles/year over the past 8 years This car is a real time capsule and is very solid. "Rosy" is located in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. She is for sale locally also, but this car needs to go to Miami or California to be driven as original or customized. Yes, of course the iconic off-roader has a loyal following here in America, but you could plop a Wrangler pretty much anywhere on the globe and everybody will know what it is. Put simply, the redesigned 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL has big, muddy shoes to fill, and the readers of Autoblog are just as interested in the Wrangler's rebirth as anyone else. Moving along, we were fortunate enough last week to spend a bit of time in nearly every version of the venerable Volkswagen Golf all in one day. There isn't a Golf we don't like, but there's one, easily identifiable by its three-digit name, that stands above all the rest: GTI. We think it's the best Golf you can buy, even if there's an R-badged variant that slots above the GTI in VW hierarchy. Rounding out our recap are three vehicles that could hardly be more different. The 2019 GMC Sierra, which was seen wearing pretty light camouflage, is a truck. The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio – which isn't going to go on sale, ever, at any price – is a conceptual supercar. Top Gear drag races VW Golf R against McLaren 675LT and Porsche 911
Thu, Apr 7 2016Top Gear's latest quarter-mile drag race in the collects three very different performance vehicles: the 296-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R, 424-hp Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, and 666-hp McLaren 675LT. While each of these cars sit near the top of their segment, they each come from totally different rungs of the sports car price ladder. Spoiler alert, the Golf R doesn't win. But the final results illustrate the diminishing returns of price and performance. For example, the McLaren is only about a second quicker than the Porsche to 60 miles per hour, but the 675LT costs over 2.5 times more that the GTS. Related Video:
Winterkorn kept diesel scandal secret, letter claims
Tue, Mar 1 2016Former Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn allegedly kept quiet for two weeks about emissions defeat devices in the company's models. US officials eventually made the automaker's deception public on September 18th. "In the conversation on 03.09.2015 with the regulator CARB (California Air Resources Board), the defeat device was admitted," an employee told Winterkorn on September 4, according to Reuters citing Germany's Bild am Sonntag. Based on this information, Winterkorn had plenty of time to admit the problem. Evidence like this letter continues to suggest top figures knew about the emissions problem. In addition, a separate Bild am Sonntag report recently claimed that an employee emailed Winterkorn in May 2014 to tell him US regulators could discover the cheating. In the lower echelons of the company, the deception was allegedly an open secret among engineers as early as 2006, and people kept quiet even after workers tried to admit what was happening. This culture of secrecy seems to go even deeper than just the diesel emissions scandal. For example, engineers admitted that they cheated on CO2 tests to meet the company's strict standards. According to Green Car Reports, these problems also affected the US. In 2004, an Audi worker in America allegedly discovered an issue with the exhaust gas temperature sensor in some vehicles, but a German executive said not to admit the problem to US regulators. It's not clear whether any high level employees tried to fix the diesel emissions issue or if they simply kept the problem hidden. The company's internal report, which is due in the latter half of April, might address that concern. So far, the VW Group has said only a small group of people caused the scandal. However, these many allegations to the contrary make that claim difficult to believe. Related Video:
