I am finally ready to let her go! This is a 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe! It has a 1600 Dual Port engine, and a 4 speed manual transmission. It is a great car that spent it's entire life in California, until we moved back here. The interior is in great shape. It has 4 new tires, with less than 100 miles on them. New rotors, and pads in the front. New battery. It doesn't need anything to be a daily driver, although that is not what it has been. I have only had her out a hand full of times, to shows and to car cruises. These are only going to go up in value, and have been for the last few years. It has a little surface rust on drivers door, from some old body work. I purchased a perfect, complete door for her years ago, and it will go with her. I also have a complete set of german glass that will go with her. This is the last one of 6 Ghias that I've owned, so your the lucky one that will get extras, that really are worth a ton of money, for basically free. The car alone is worth the asking price. It has a perfect NEVER hit nose, which is like finding a unicorn! It is the only one I've ever had, that's why I kept her. It has an older repaint, and slight body work here and there, but looks great from 10 feet away. With a little body work and a new paint job($1500), this is a 10-12K car all day long. Sorry for all the numbers, it's just that the last time I thought about selling her I had to explain to a lot of people what it was, and what it was worth. This is the best year, hands down, 12 Volt system, and Disc brakes, and still the cool bumpers, and smaller tail lights. Everything works as it should, but understand, it is 43 years old! VW joins Daimler's protest of new A/C refrigerant as EU deadline for compliance passes

The case of Dupont and Honeywell's refrigerant R-1234yf is doing the exact opposite of keeping things cool. The two chemical companies have spent years and hundreds of millions of dollars developing R-1234yf to replace R-134a, the new refrigerant shown to be 99.7-percent kinder to the environment than the one it is meant to succeed. Part of that development has been years of testing by governments, outside safety agencies and automakers to approve the chemical for use in cars. It passed the protocols necessary for the European Union to declare that new and significantly revised cars from 2013 onward needed to use R-1234yf, and mandated that every car as of 2017 must use it.
Enter Daimler AG. The automaker created a head-on collision test with a B-Class at their Sindelfingen test track that would lead to the pressurized refrigerant being sprayed on the engine. The result in 20 out of 20 test was that the refrigerant burst into flames as soon as it hit the hot engine, while Daimler says that R-134a does not catch fire in the same test. Another unexpected result of the R-1234yf test was the release of hydrogen flouride, a chemical far more deadly to humans than hydrogen cyanide, emitted in such amounts that it that turned the windshield white as it began to eat into the glass.
Said a Daimler engineer in a Reuters piece, "It was scarcely believable. The most complicated lab tests conducted using the most sensitive measuring instruments around found nothing and all we do is drive a car around a couple of times, open a tiny hole in the refrigerant line and the next thing you know the car is on fire." So Daimler said it wouldn't use the refrigerant, and it recalled the cars it had already shipped with R-1234yf.

VW planning 20 new plug-in models for China

With just about everything getting super-sized for China, Volkswagen is following suit with its plug-in vehicle plans for the world's most populous country. VW, Europe's largest carmaker, is looking to sell more than 20 different plug-in models in China within the next four years, Reuters says, citing comments Volkswagen Group China head Jochem Heizmann made in Shanghai. The company is hoping that translates to sales of more than 100,000 plug-ins in China by the end of the decade. Go big or go home, right? There's a huge plug-in vehicle opportunity in China, especially given the bad pollution situation in cities like Beijing and Shanghai and the Chinese government's incentives for plug-in vehicle buyers. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn said at the Beijing Motor Show this spring that the company would spend $25 billion on at least a half-dozen plug-in models for China by 2018. VW will start selling the e-Golf in China this year and the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid in 2015. VW said in August that it would start selling the e-Golf in the US for about $35,500 in November. That's a $6,500 price hike from the base Nissan Leaf.
