Relisted- last deal the guy had no money!

Regretfully selling my MK2 8V Jetta. I am the second registered owner and the Car has not been registered since 2009. It's been sitting and it's time to move on to a good home. Runs well, lots of new parts over the last few years. A/C blows ice cold, it was converted to R134A. In 2009 both fuel pumps and fuel filter were replaced along with complete exhaust system. In spring of 2011 a new heater core was installed as well as new blower motor resistor. In 2012 brembo front rotors and new frt brake pads were installed. July 2011 it got a repaint. It's been driven less than 280 miles since all work was done. Car is not a perfect it's 22 years old. Currently only needs a battery, a new speedo cable and some minor TLC if you want, and perhaps replace the windshield as it has a rock chip/crack. The body on this car is mint, cleanest ones around and it runs well, interior is clean and in great shape. A flaw with interior is that the dash has started to crack. You can make this a daily driver, but you don't find many like this anymore, at least not this clean, so I would love to see a true enthusiast take this car home. This was the last year of the MK2 body and really is the Perfect car for an MK 2 enthusiast. Maybe convert to a 16v or a nice VR6 sleeper.

Disclaimer, there is no warranty expressed or implied. Vehicle is being sold as-is where is. Vehicle is 22 years old, expect normal wear and tear, minor dings and scratches, and it is up to you to decided its road worthiness. I have taken this on a 300 mile round trip to NY and NJ with no issues prior to 2012.

Payment: a deposit of $500.00 is expect at close of auction, this is non refundable, so if you can't afford this car, don't bid! Final payment expected in cash at pickup, no more than 10 days after the end of the auction. A postal money order will also be accepted, and vehicle will be allowed for pickup only after the money order is cashed.

Shipping or pickup: winning bidder is responsible for all shipping arrangements and fees. I will assist with any scheduling and make certain I am available for pickup.

Update: car is listed for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel auction early. Car is in above average condition. NADA lists this car at $3,575 average, $5,150 for high retail. I feel this car is right in the middle but willing to let it go for less than that.

Volkswagen offers Beetle Classic, priced from $20,195*

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

The current Volkswagen Beetle already tries to be a fairly retro-looking ride by cribbing styling elements from the iconic original. However, for the new, limited-edition Classic model, VW is hopping into the time machine to grab even more vintage cues. The company is even cutting the price, perhaps in hopes of turning around flagging sales this year. You don't need to wait long for any of these upgrades either because the automaker says that the Classic goes on sale this week for $20,195, *excluding the $820 destination charge. That's $100 less than a bone-stock Beetle.
Starting as a standard Beetle with VW's 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, the Classic edition comes with a six-speed automatic and then adds some retro flair. It includes new vintage-look 17-inch wheels with simulated dog dish polished hubcaps over black spokes. It also comes with a rear spoiler, and the automaker is offering the model in Pure White, Black Uni, and Reflex Silver.
The interior mixes in a few more classic touches but includes modern amenities like a standard navigation system, satellite radio and multifunction steering wheel. However, the seats are finished in a two-tone design combining light brown leatherette on the sides and checked cloth centers, plus lumbar support for the driver's side. The shift knob and handbrake also get wrapped in leather.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.

VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.
