2003 Volkswagen Golf Gls Hatchback 4-door 2.0l - Blue on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
|
This sweet little BLUE 4dr Golf is an automatic GLS.She has a sun/moon roof and heated seats, Tape/CD player and all that other stuff. :) Mileage is 70,348 which is pretty low given her age. She is a 2003. I'm the only owner, but bought it used with 5,000 miles on it. It was a dealer rental car prior to my purchase. I bought her the day that I moved to LA from North Carolina. She's been across the country a couple of times. I rarely drove her b/c my work was always either really close or at home. She's mostly just seen the freeway, but she's gotten pretty dinged up from street parking in Santa Monica, and sitting under some pretty gnarly trees that weren't kind to her hood paint job. The paint has gone bad, starting with the hood and now moving along to the side panels on the top of the car on both sides of the hood. It needs to be repainted. There are also several other minor damage areas that look awful, but should be quick inexpensive updates, for example the front grill is busted up and missing, one of the side view mirrors is cracked, there are scrapes along the sides. It's a little beat up, but if you don't care or if you are an aspiring or accomplished auto body mechanic, then this is the project of your dreams. Fix er up and sell er for a profit! I've kept her oil changed and her tires good throughout time, but she's probably due some new oil. I think her tires are still pretty legit though - with lots of road life left in them. I'll got kick em for you for sure if you have any questions. This little car has been SOOooo good to me and I kind of want her to go to a great home more than I care about making a couple thousand bucks. She'll be missed. I used to smoke cigarettes in her, but I haven't in YEARS, and she doesn't seem to hold the smell. I no longer smoke so neither does she. She cleans up quite nice, but she shows her age. You can view an album of her photos here, and feel free to reach out to me if you'd like additional information. MORE PICS |

Volkswagen Golf R Variant ready to haul ass, stuff
Thu, Nov 20 2014Volkswagen seems to be playing a cruel trick on the American automotive public at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It's displaying its sexy Golf R Variant with no clear intention of actually selling the model here. The hot wagon launches in Europe in the spring, but the automaker makes absolutely no mention of the model's prospects in the US. Hopefully, its appearance in LA at least indicates VW is considering bringing it stateside. The great thing about this wagon is that it has everything that the regular Golf R offers, but there's even more room to carry stuff. The same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 296 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Performance is very close, too, with the Variant R taking 5.1 seconds to get to 62 miles per hour versus the 4.9 seconds the standard R needs to read 60 mph. The two of them also have the same tech goodies like ESC Sport stability control and multiple damping modes. The real advantage to opting for the estate is its ability to carry up to 57.2 cubic feet of cargo in the back. This hot rod wagon would seem to be perfect for the family that needs to haul some extra junk in the trunk, but doesn't want to sacrifice performance. Whether the Variant R makes it to the US remains a mystery, though. Scroll down to read the specs and feel a twinge of jealousy.
Happy 60th to the VW Karmann Ghia
Tue, 20 Aug 2013Volkswagen's product portfolio may be as extensive these days as any other carmaker in the business. But if you still think of the original Beetle as synonymous with the brand, that's probably because a) you're old and b) the Beetle was the company's only product until the mid-50s.
Sixty years ago Wilhelm Karmann (founder of the eponymous coachbuilder) was in Paris for the auto salon and met up with Luigi Segre and his team from Carrozzeria Ghia who showed him what was essentially a "Beetle in a sports coat." A month later they showed it to Volkswagen chief Heinrich Nordhoff who, setting aside his conservative tastes, approved it for production. And so the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was born, giving the German marque a second product line. It still used Beetle mechanicals and was built at the same Karmann factory in Onsabrück that was already assembling the Beetle Cabriolet.
It took another couple of years to put the design into production, but from 1955 to 1974, Volkswagen and Karmann built 362,601 coupes and 80,881 of the subsequent convertible that arrived in 1957. Today the Onsabrück factory is part of the VW Group, handling production of the Golf Cabriolet, XL1 and Porsche Boxster and Cayman, and with that original Karmann Ghia prototype as part of its factory collection.
VW beams in Star Trek stars to promote e-Golf EV
Tue, Oct 7 2014Volkswagen just set its e-mobility commercial phasers on stunning. The German automaker has cast Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock of Star Trek fame (i.e., actors William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy) in a new advertisement for its growing stable of electric vehicles. Even though it's in German, we think you can get the idea. VW went Hollywood and cast the two veteran actors in a futuristic-themed 45-second ad, which sees Shatner cruise up in the e-Golf (with a toothy Trek-fan kid in tow) while Nimoy rocks the XL1 and the Trek theme blares in the background. Forget for a moment that the kid in the commercial wasn't even born when Shatner started pitching for Priceline, let alone the original Trek series and just enjoy the wholesome good humor of Shatner saying that the electric powertrain is just like the one in a spaceship. If you've got any familiarity with Spock, you should be able to understand his punch line, too. Of course, if you'd rather your German vehicle advertisements were set in the Star Wars universe, we recommend clicking here. VW will bring the e-Golf to the states in November at a price of $35,445, about $6,500 higher than the Nissan Leaf's starting pricetag. You can see the new ad and a number of related behind-the-scenes videos (in English) below. Our Quick Spin of the E-up! are available here. This content is hosted by a third party.
