1979 Vw Volkswagen Super Beetle Cabrio Convertible - Daily Driver Reliable! on 2040-cars

You are bidding on a classic 1979 VW Super Beetle convertible!  Here's your chance to get the classic VW you've always wanted. 

This is a solid reliable daily driver.  It's been my personal commuting car for ~5 years now, and has been exceptionally reliable.  This is not some half baked project rotting away in the back yard like most of the beetles you find for sale.  This is a titled, registered, insured daily driver.  As such, it's expected to work every day of the week, without excuses, and has been maintained to a high standard.

I've detailed below some of the maintenance and repair highlights of this car.  As you can see, the mechanical condition is no-expense-spared.   You'll find no generic made in China low-budget aftermarket junk.  It's all Genuine VW or German OEM.  Turn the key and drive.  Everything works and works well.

The odometer works, as do all of the instruments.  It currently shows 41415 miles.  The car is driven daily, so it will be slightly higher when you come pick it up.  Like all cars of this vintage, it's a five-digit odometer, so who knows what the actual mileage is.  The body has a bit of rust like all beetles do, but none of it is structural.  The center spine is solid, as are the side support rails, battery tray, and floor pans.  Bottoms of the rear quarters have rust, paint is bubbling, etc.  Wolfsburg West and the other usual retailers sell all the common repair panels, so if you're handy with body and paint work, it's all readily available.  The right rear fender has a large dent in it, as you can see.  The convertible top works, and does not leak!  Not even in heavy rain!  Also, the heat works and it's nice and hot even on the coldest winter day!

I've personally driven this bug as far north as NYC, as far south as South Carolina, and as far west as Ohio.  It will cruise happily at 70 mph on the interstate without issues.  You can pick it up and drive it home, no need to have it towed or shipped.  It does not leak or drip any fluids!  Unlike most tired neglected beetle engines that leak oil all over the place and make a big mess, this one does not mark its territory! 

The car comes with a clean clear Virginia title.  No stories, no excuses.  It also comes with a hefty folder full of maintenance and parts receipts.  $Thousands of dollars of maintenance records.  It just had a wheel alignment and oil change last month.  A box full of spare maintenance parts, filters, etc. is included with the car.  The radio is a vintage Sony cassette.  It is disconnected, physically in place only to fill the dash opening, so you'll want to replace it with something more modern if you want music.  The dashboard appears to be original and has no cracks, it is smooth and solid!

Engine:
- Gene Berg Tig Welded & Balanced engine fan
- Fan intake venturi ring
- Gene Berg "Achiever" balanced degree crank pulley
- Brand new internally regulated Genuine Bosch alternator
- Upgraded "Mexican" alternator pulley-fan
- Bosch Germany 009 distributor, new points, cap rotor, plugs, wires
- Beru Germany coil, not available in US, special ordered from Europe
- Boiled, cleaned, painted Genuine VW heat exchangers, nice strong heat!
- Rebuild Solex Germany 30 pict-1 carb, correctly jetted for 1600dp engine and modern E10 gasoline
- Rebuilt 1600dp long block, rebuilt using all NOS Genuine VW by Bill @ Bug-n-Bunny Clinic.
- De-carboned intake manifold, manifold heat works as it should, no engine stuttering in cool weather!
- Complete engine cooling flaps and linkage and tinware
- New genuine vw oil cooler, gaskets, seals
- Oil bath air filter with NOS Genuine VW air filter thermostat
- NOS Genuine VW oil pressure sender
- CB Performance Maxi-2 oil filter/pump.  A few spare oil filters are included.  (Uses BMW 2002 oil filter, several spares included)
- Fresh oil change April 2014
- New Dansk muffler & tips
- Steel engine sump plate w/ drain & magnetic plug

Fuel system:
- New metric stainless steel fuel line & metric German fuel hose, end-to-end, fuel tank to engine
- Fuel King fuel pressure regulator (Made in Italy) with gauge, set correctly at exactly 1.8 psi
- CB Performance rotary fuel pump

Electrical:
- All lights, and electrical items work and work well
- Bosch H4 Euro headlamps with Porsche relays for low & high beams
- Genuine Porsche 911 license plate light
- New windshield wiper motor
- Hella triple tone air-horn with relay

Body / General:
- Good Michelin tires
- Top does not leak, even in hard rain, not even a little bit!
- All four windows work, roll up and down smoothly
- All locks are keyed the same!  Engine lid, glove box, ignition switch, and both doors.
- Rebuilt Genuine VW pedal cluster
- New speedometer drive cable
- New heated rear window glass, rubber seal, and window frame
- Has rust in the usual beetle places like lower rear quarters, but floors are solid, center spine is solid, and the structural rails on either side are solid.
- Paint is very faded and flat, not shiny at all

Transmission:
- Transmission has Redline 75w90 synthetic gear oil,
- Porsche 911 magnetic transmission drain plug
- Tight, no leaks, shifts smoothly, all gears easy to select
