Limited edition "Sun Bug" Super Beetle with factory sun roof and gold (original color but repainted several years ago). Body is in good shape other than a minor "ding" that doesn't break the surface of the paint. The sunroof opens and closes easily.

Engine was rebuilt at 95,000 miles and runs very well. There are no known mechanical issues - brakes, clutch, etc are in good shape. It has good pick up and keeps up well on the freeway.

Front and back seats were recently restuffed and re-upholstered. Door panels were also replaced at that time. Radio works but is disconnected from speakers.

It could use replacement of window and sun roof seals as some are brittle. However, no leaking has been experienced. Under the carpet there is some rust "dust" but no evidence of it having eaten through the floor.

I have owned the car for appx 5 years and kept it in my garage. I am selling it because I don't drive it often enough.

German carmakers recall 630,000 diesel vehicles in Europe

Mercedes, Opel, Porsche, and Volkswagen will recall over 630,000 cars in Europe, according to reports Friday. No diesel car has been able to get under the legal emissions limit in real-world driving, according to a German government investigation. While only Volkswagen Group has been using a specific "defeat device", other carmakers have been playing with their exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. Depending of the manufacturer, the systems have been cut off at a certain temperature. In a specific test cycle the systems operate to fulfill the legal requirements, but in everyday use the limits are exceeded. According to the magazine Der Spiegel, the supplier Bosch is behind this programming and has provided it to all German automakers. The mentioned carmakers have announced recalls, but many other manufacturers are also mentioned by name in the report, including Alfa Romeo, Chevrolet, Dacia, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Nissan, Renault, and Suzuki. PSA Group, which produces Peugeot, Citroen, and DS cars, declared yesterday that its offices were raided following an emissions investigation. There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
