Here's my baby and she's for sale.
I just don't have the time to take care of her anymore and I'd rather see her go to someone that can take the time to enjoy her more than I can. Don't like the price? Feel free to make me an offer, the worst thing that can happen is I say no (and depending on how low the offer is it may make me sad too but oh well right!) Here are some details for now, I may add more later as I remember them, if you have ANY questions or want more pictures PLEASE do not hesitate to ask! * Just built 2017cc engine built by the Great Paul Ripa of JBBugs (www.jbbugs.com) he knows his stuff, been around forever and a half, and also road races his own car. Engine still has under 150 miles on it. Here are some details of the engine: - CB Supercase AS41 90.5mm fully flowed Magnesium case (yes, the discontinued ones that everyone and their Mother wants) - Eagle racing 2288 camshaft - 78.4mm CB Forged 4340 Chromoly counterweighted crank (8 dowelled, balanced) - CB Uni-tech HD Plus I-beam rods with HD bolts - 90.5mm AA pistons and cylinders - Mini D port heads that Pat Downs from CB Performance set up for me. He did a 2 angle valve job, 4 angle valve seat job, new valve guides, new valves, new retainers, installed and set the new VW650 springs and fly cut them to 58cc (which gives me 8.6:1 compression with a 0.050" deck height). - Custom made head studs, Chromoly 4140, 8mm threads, 9mm shaft - 12.5 lbs flywheel - DRD Racing Chromoly racing Gland nut - CB breather tower - Weber 44 IDF carbs - CB hex bar linkage - 51 amp alternator - German valve covers - Gene Berg 1.5qt deep sump - A1 Sidewinder - CB ultralight 28mm lifters - Manton Chromoly pushrods (0.058" wall thickness) - CB 1493 VW650 Dual Springs - Stainless steel windage push rod tubes - Schadek 26mm oil pump with cover - Daikin clutch disc - Kennedy stage 1 pressure plate - Billet distributor clamp - Billet alternator pulley with matching hex nut - 8mm Spiro-Pro plug wire set - JayCee mag oil sump plate - Gene Berg 6lb Equalizer pulley - Mallory Unilite distributor - Magnum straight cut gears - CB 1.3:1 rocker arms and solid shaft Engine is in the car and runs and drives, however it still needs to be tuned right. Right now I think it's too rich on the bottom end (idle jets) I'm using 60 idles, 160 mains, 200 air and 50 pump jets with F11 emulsion tubes and 36mm venturis. The car bogs down a little when warm and below ~3500 RPM at part throttle. I have the timing set at about 30 degrees max advance with grey/grey springs. Running BP6ES spark plugs. * New KCR Superstreet Plus transmission (has less than 110 miles on it). - Super diff - Heavy Duty side cover - Welded third and fourth - Steel forks - 4.12 Klindenberg R&P - 3.78 first gear - 0.82 fourth gear - Chromoly pinion retainer * Canton Mecca oil filter * Mesa remote oil cooler (in addition to stock doghouse one) * New Bosch autostick starter * CB electric fuel pump * OEM NOS VW/Bosch Euro headlights with correct chrome rings (extra set of correct NOS rings also included) * NOS Bumper strips front and rear * Front Euro disc brake spindles * Rear converted to Type 3 rear brakes (used NOS drums) * Full set of VDO gauges (tach, oil pressure, oil temp, ammeter, cylinder head temp) * New never installed Innovate Motorsports 3488 MTX-L A/F gauge * Zeitronix A/F system (needs a laptop or additional SD card reader to use it) * NOS dash pad * Gray tweed/black vinyl interior * Black/Gray carpets * Rubber floor mats * Gene Berg shifter with vintage grip handle * Kochs restored steering wheel * Topline versa struts * Topline front tie bar * Topline front swaybar and suspension parts * Steering box, tie rods and bushings all replaced * KYB white rear shocks * Sway-A-Way rear torsion bars * Urethane spring plate bushings * HD trans mounts, mid mount and rear strap * MSD-6AL with adjustable rev limiter * Kenwood KDC-X995 head unit (top of the line, bluetooth, pandora, etc etc etc) with 6.5" front speakers, two rear tweeter and two subs with 4 way amplifier * Hirshmann antenna * Optima battery * 4.5" front and 5.5" rear wheels * New matching tires (Yokohama Avid Envigor, 175/65/15 front 205/60/15 rear) * Pop out windows * Original spare with bias ply tire There's obviously more I just can't think of it right now. I also have a bunch of spare parts, door panels, two German doors, German decklid, suspension parts etc etc all those parts are also included in the sale. The paint is not in the best shape, there are cracks and dings here and there, but it's a presentable car and turns heads everywhere I drive it (just drove it today and got tons of thumbs up). I will also include (IF you want them) all the trophies the car has received for the last 14 years I have owned it, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies at several shows across California (it's a California car I brought along with me to Florida when I moved here) and Florida shows. I also have a tow bar I will include if you need it. I also have a box of receipts and paperwork since around 2000, and a logbook/journal that I kept for the car. Mileage is not actual. Here's a video I made a couple of weeks ago (I know the oil cap is off, I had just changed the oil and was doing the first start after the oil change): https://www.dropbox.com/s/fi34e0qo1ttl3pb/20131107_170618.mp4 Let me know if you have any questions or need any more pictures or details, or would like to come inspect the car. |

Tanner Foust drifts in with new VW Passat [w/video]
Thu, Apr 9 2015Tanner Foust, like many drifting and rallycross names, may have had a long track record with Ford, campaigning Blue Oval drifters in Formula D, the X Games and the Global RallyCross Championship. He won a few medals with Nissan too. But these days he's all about the Volkswagens. He drives a Beetle in the aforementioned GRC, but is now set to return to Formula Drift with the Passat you see here. The Top Gear USA co-host's new ride is ostensibly based on the German sedan we all know, but instead of a 1.8 turbo, a V6, a TDI or even a W8, this one packs a 7.4-liter V8. That mammoth mill sends about 700 horsepower to the rear wheels through a four-speed transmission, but will churn out a good 900 hp on nitrous. In short, it should be better suited towards drifting than the Passat 4Motion this writer tried to slide so many times in his youth. The beast is sponsored once again by Rockstar Energy, and we're looking forward to watching Tanner use it to try and retake the titles he won in 2007 and 2008. 2023 CES Editors' Picks
Mon, Jan 9 2023Over the past few years, it has become more and more clear that the Consumer Electronics Show is a car show. And this year that reality is more clear than ever. Not only did established automakers show off seriously important vehicles, but a traditional electronics company brought a car that gives an idea of its intents (with the help of establishment car company). With so many car reveals, we had to rank our favorites. Our picks for this show are entirely electric. Or at least, they are on paper, since many are concepts. Considering the name of the show, it would be a little strange if they weren't. In fact, not only are many of our favorites concepts, they all are save for one. See how they shook out below. VW ID7 camo View 28 Photos 5. Volkswagen ID.7 "The ID.7 definitely got lost in the crowd at CES. That it was camouflaged definitely didn't help, even if that camo was electroluminescent (BMW trumped it big time with its color-changing Dee). Nevertheless, this is a close-to-production hatchback-ed sedan, not unlike today's Arteon, with an extra-long wheelbase courtesy its EV architecture. It should be a solid answer to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, and even if people obviously prefer SUVs now, VW says there is still a market for sedans. I know I'd probably prefer one." –Senior Editor, West Coast and Reviews, James Riswick Peugeot Inception concept View 12 Photos 4. Peugeot Inception "It's not often that show debuts surprise us. While Peugeot teased the Inception ahead of CES, its unveiling seemed almost incidental. But just look at this thing; it's like an electric French Mustang with someplace important to be. I don't buy into the stupid 'It's not a wheel!' thing that Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson described as providing a video-game-like drive experience, but that bit of silliness aside, this is a really promising design study. Give us more of these and fewer tall boxes, please." –Associate Editor Byron Hurd Afeela prototype from Sony Honda Mobility View 11 Photos 3. Afeela by Sony Honda “Ever since Sony showed off an impressively put-together concept car at CES a few years ago, IÂ’ve been anticipating the companyÂ’s next move. Apparently, that next move is “Afeela.” No, I donÂ’t love the name. The specs from SonyÂ’s original concept car give me hope that this prototype sportback (itÂ’s a hatchback!) will be fun to drive, though.
Porsche CEO Oliver Blume will be installed as head of the VW brand
Wed, Jun 3 2020Volkswagen Chief Executive Herbert Diess is planning to promote Porsche CEO Oliver Blume to take over as the head of the VW brand, according to a report from Auto Motor und Sport. Citing company sources, the German site said Bernhard Maier, who currently sits at the head of VW's Skoda brand, will lead Porsche in Blume's place. A shuffle at VW isn't surprising. The last thing Volkswagen needs as it transitions away from its long-running "clean diesel" TDI fiasco and into a clean electric ID future is negative press surrounding its burgeoning electrified lineup. Unfortunately, the ID.3 launch has been marred by software issues, with Manager magazine citing company engineers saying "the basic architecture was developed too hastily." Because of that underlying issue, various modules "often do not understand each other" and suffer dropouts. The brand-new eighth-generation Golf launch was also troubled and pushed back due to software problems. And more recently, Volkswagen was forced to pull an advertisement after admitting it was racist and insulting. That marketing misstep, according to the report, will lead to the firing of Chief Marketing Officer Jochen Sengpiehl. Related Video:
