AWSOME RUNNING AND DRIVING 68 VW CUSTOM "NO RESERVE" I purchased this fun little VW a couple of weeks ago from a fella in North Carolina that I was delivering a 29 Model A frame to. He made me such a great deal that now fellow ebayers should be able to get a fun time for a good price. I have only driven the buggy about 20 fun filled miles but I got a good feel for the condition right away. The little Roadster starts right up and idles just like it should with no funny noises, oil or exhaust leaks. The engine, which I do not know the size of pulls strong with no skips or flat spots in the power band. The transaxle and transmission work perfectly with gear selection and clutch sharp and crisp, no play in shifter. The vehicle ran down the road strait and true and stopped strait with no pull from the 4 wheel drum brakes. The wheels are CABO's with 245/35ZR 20s all the way around with about 80% tread left. The body is a full fiberglass replacement finished in yellow Rhino lining for durability and ease of cleaning. It has a working speedometer, tach and oil pressure gauge (40 psi @ idle). The interior is carpeted thru out the cockpit in black with nice yellow piping against the firewall and the transaxle tunnel. Yellow shifter boot and e-brake cover along with the nicely covered (no tears or holes) front and back seats finish off the interior. The VW is 100% street legal with working headlights, tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, horns and seat belts front and back. The outside tub of the vw is finished in cut to fit stainless steel sheeting and has linear 2' white lights located. The bikini top is practically new and shows no age. It has a working Kenwood stereo with removable color matching speaker box. The only non working items are the fuel gauge and volt gauge which I will try to sort out before the auction ends. The engine is dressed with headers, see thru dist cap, chrome air cleaner, chrome belt cover and chrome valve covers. Overall the VW roadster is in above average condition with below average normal wear and tear for the year and quality of the conversion. The roadster is not perfect and is showing some age on the chrome front bumper, some chipping and surface cracking in the fiberglass and interior scuff marks from getting in and out of the vehicle but overall presents itself very well in pictures and in person. I have done my best to describe this vw and it comes with no warranties written or implied however, If you the buyer upon delivery in person feel like I have lied or deceived you in any way in this description I will refund your deposit minus fuel cost (if I deliver) and we can go our separate ways still friends.. I can deliver the VW up to 750 miles from 36067 on an open trailer for $1.25 a loaded mile. If over 750 we can negotiate. Please feel free to ask questions or request additional pictures. |

Audi rumored to buy Alfa Romeo, officials deny it
Thu, 28 Mar 2013For more than two years, Volkswagen has been making public statements about its willingness to buy Alfa Romeo and quadruple the Italian brand's sales, and for just as long, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has replied with some version of "Mr. Piëch, drop it." According to a report in Ward's Auto, all that jousting might be over: it claims that sources close to both Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler admit that the two are in talks for Audi to buy not just Alfa Romeo, but a production plant in Italy. In fact, a final deal could possibly include partsmaker Magnetti Marelli.
Against that backdrop, a report by German news weekly Stern quotes a Fiat spokesmen as saying it doesn't comment on rumors and an Audi rep has said flatly that "There is no substance in the news." If a sale is being arranged, the timing would seem to point to how eager Fiat is to raise cash to complete its major initiatives. Even though Alfa Romeo continues to delay its return to the US, it just showed off the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show (shown above) and said that preferred Fiat dealerships here would get them. Then there's Alfa's recently concluded deal with Mazda to develop a roadster based on the next generation MX-5 Miata - a deal that would seem to help both the Italian and Japanese brands.
The monetary issues are troublesome, though. Fiat is taking a beating in the European market and its weak-kneed balance sheet is delaying gotta-have-it products like the Jeep Cherokee. Fiat has been talking to banks about getting money to buy the rest of Chrysler and those financial institutions have also raised issues about debt and cash reserves, and the nasty game of chess Fiat is playing with the United Auto Workers (and now the court system about the portion of Chrysler it doesn't own) could end up blowing another hole in Marchionne's plans. It is possible that this could finally have convinced Fiat to at least see how serious Audi's parent company, Volkswagen, is about buying Alfa Romeo. Or it could be just another rumor.
2015 Volkswagen Golf R [w/video]
Mon, Nov 24 2014Volkswagen hired a photographer to come shoot the handful of journalists that it brought to drive the 2015 Golf R at Buttonwillow Raceway north of Los Angeles. This fact, though unremarkable in and of itself, was something I hadn't noticed until I was well into my track time – probably ten laps deep on a day that would see me run twice that number. In any event, I noticed the intrepid shooter as he was sprinting from one side of the track to the other somewhere before Turn 2, while I was barreling down the main straightaway, still looking through Turn 1. In the roughly two-mile configuration of the track that I drove, Buttonwillow is a big, wide-open circuit, largely flat and with excellent overall visibility. On that layout, and just hours into my Golf R experience, I'd already become confident in endeavoring to push the limits of VW's latest blistering hatch. In fact, the easy nature of driving the thing quickly had me overestimating my pace. So when I saw the photog sprint across the tarmac I instinctively slowed way too much, way too early for Turn 1. Looking back at the incident after I'd pitted for the session, I laughed at myself, knowing I'd have had to be driving almost double my actual speed to put the camera guy in any real danger of being hit. But the experience crystallized what my full test of the R bore out: this is a car that makes you feel much faster than you otherwise would, at least in a competition setting. The 2015 Golf R is an uber hatch that will flatter those hyper-enthusiasts passionate enough to splash out on its steep price tag, but without threatening sales of core models like the GTI and its ilk. That's a good thing for the VW fanboys, to be sure, and, I'd argue, a great thing for the strength of the German brand overall. {C} The R felt both placid and comfortable while I clicked off highway miles in search of the racetrack. My test in California had at least two things in common with the First Drive feature that Steve Ewing brought us with the Golf R in Sweden. First, we both drove European specification cars (though mine didn't suffer from the same sticker abuse that Steve's did). Second, we were both somewhat limited in terms of driving the car in varied, real-world situations. My street route consisted almost entirely of tracking California's I-5 north out of Los Angeles; which any Angelino will tell you is a less-than-riveting mode of travel.
