PLEASE WATCH THE COMPREHENSIVE WALKAROUND AND TEST DRIVE VIDEO!

I am the original owner of this 2001Toyota Tacoma, double cab, SR5, V6 4 WD with an automatic transmission.  It has 78,769 miles. The truck has never been hit. This truck has always been garaged, even at work. The oil and filter were changed when they replaced the frame. The truck has the following options: trailer tow package, aluminum extend-a-bed, over the rail bedliner, sliding rear window, aluminum alloy wheels, a/c, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, stereo w/cd player.

I bought the truck in January of 2001 and drove it until June 2004 when I retired. It had just about 50,000 miles when I retired and since then I drove it approx. 3,900 miles a year since it now has 78,769 miles.  I also have the original winder sticker, sales brochure and maintenance records. This truck is only for someone who understands the Toyota recall for rusty frames. Again, this truck has never been in an accident. This truck has a new frame, brake lines, leaf spring, lower control arms etc. Toyota replaced many more parts that are detailed in the bill from Toyota.  The bill which I have, details every part that was replaced at their cost.  The bill was $12,661.00, Toyota paid the entire bill.  I'll explain how this came about.  I received a recall notice in September, 2013 for the spare tire carrier. I made an appointment for October. When the dealership inspected the truck they told me that my truck qualified for the frame recall. It wasn't until January, 2014 that they did the job. It is very impressive to look under the truck and see all the brand new metal.  At first I was worried about what kind of job they would do. A very good friend of mine who works for Toyota in Brooklyn, and is a mechanic who he himself replaces the frames, assures me that they replace so many of these frames that they have it down pat and rarely if ever is there a problem. My truck drives fine, no squeaks or rattled.

Once I brought the truck home and parked it in the garage, I only drove it around my neighborhood on nice days to the keep the fluids moving.  I didn't want to subject the new frame to the road salt. Since I don't drive the truck much, I always treated the gas with stabil at each fill up.  I replaced the tires at 62,000 miles with the same tires since I got such good miles out the of the original ones.  The tires have less than 20,000 miles on them. The alloy wheels have some pitting that is common. In the first 3 years Toyota replaced the rear bumper twice, apparently there was some kind of plating defect, the current bumper is perfect. Nothing has ever broken on this truck, so other than normal maintenance, which was one either by Toyota or me, it has been trouble free. There isn't any rust on the body, there aren't any oil or fluid leaks at all. I did replace the front rotors, caliper and pads in 2009. There is nothing wrong or broken with this truck. As you know, these trucks are known as being bullet proof. It shifts fine, idles smoothly and the 4wd engages and works perfectly. The interior is pretty much in perfect condition. There aren't any rips, tears, stains etc. I have aftermarket floor mats on top of the factory carpeted ones. The exterior is almost perfect. The top of the drivers fender has a ding so small the camera won't pick it up as are some very minor surface scratches on the driver side rear quarter, they can probably be buffed out. When Toyota put the last bumper on they installed it about 1/8" too high and the bottom of the tailgate touched the black plastic on the top of the bumper and nicked the bottom of the tailgate. I trimmed off the part of the plastic that was touching and it has been fine for at least 10 years.

I am selling my truck because I ordered a 2014 Silverado. Originally I was going to keep the Tacoma, however it doesn't make any sense to keep both.  Whoever buys this truck will be getting an exceptionally clean, well maintained EXTREMELY LOW MILEAGE vehicle that very rarely sat outside.

Nearly 700,000 Toyotas and Lexuses named in fuel pump recall

Tue, Jan 14 2020

In an announcement posted to its corporate press room, Toyota made known a voluntary safety recall on select 2018 and 2019 Toyota and Lexus models. The recall includes roughly 696,000 vehicles and deals with a fuel pump that might stop working. An internal investigation into the issue is under way.  Affected rides include the Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Avalon, Corolla, and Tundra, as well as the Lexus LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460, RX 350 NX 300, RX 350L, and GS 300. The Avalon, Corolla, NX 300, RX 350L, and GS 300 are restricted to 2019 model years, while the others are 2018 and 2019 model years. The potential danger in this issue is pretty obvious. Should the fuel pump stop, the vehicles could sputter, stall, and come to a stop, likely without the ability to restart the cars. Toyota notes warning lights and messages would display should this occur, but by then, it'd be too late. Although Toyota made the announcement this week, the investigation is not yet complete, and therefore, a fix has not yet been specified. The resolution, when determined, will come free of charge to affected customers. Toyota plans to send out notifications for affected vehicles in mid-March.

Crushing 1984 Ford Ranger to make a point about clean cars

Fri, May 29 2015

Being a professional politician is often about more than just getting legislation passed, and a little showmanship can go a long way towards getting a point across. California State Senate leader Kevin de Leon recently staged just such a flashy stunt when he crushed a 1984 Ford Ranger at a rally kicking off an EV incentives pilot program. De Leon sponsored a bill last year that, in part, tried to give greater support to low-income buyers who wanted to trade in their old clunker for a zero-emissions vehicle. He hoped to improve the state's Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which has been accused of especially helping the wealthy. After watching their Ranger get destroyed at this event, the Mendoza family that owned the truck drove away in a 2013 Toyota Prius, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. Under the pilot program, buyers in two air districts in the Golden State can take advantage of these incentives. Depending on their income and the vehicle they are purchasing, people can get a rebate of between $1,500 and $9,500, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. For now, the California Air Resources Board has set aside $5 million from the state's cap-and-trade program to fund things in these areas. Later, it will vote whether to adopt the initiative statewide. Not to be outdone, Arnold Schwarzenegger has thrown his prodigious muscle behind this program, and he put out an even more explosive video showing how to get rid of these old vehicles. You can watch a clip of the Ranger's destruction from the Sacramento Business Journal above and the Governator's response, below. This content is hosted by a third party. Coming Toyota Supra to forgo hybrid, get a BMW six-cylinder turbo?

Mon, Mar 30 2015

For years, almost all of the talk about the Toyota FT-1 concept becoming a resurrected Supra envisioned a hybrid under the hood. And then the latest take on Future Toyota 1 showed up at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and - although Toyota wouldn't say a word about any engine at all - horizons began to expand. Imaginary fancies were aided by the news that Toyota had partnered with BMW to develop a sports car on the next-generation BMW Z4 platform, which would necessarily mean an engine bay designed to accept an old-fashioned hunk of gas-burning iron-working solo. Car and Driver now turns the whole thing around, reporting that there will be an inline-six with forced induction provided by BMW under the hood. What about that hybrid, though? The report states, "there's currently no indication that the Silk Road cars will offer hybrid options" - 'Silk Road' being the codename for the jointly-developed vehicles. CD makes a point to note that said tidbit came from Germany, not Japan. However, designers at Toyota's Calty studio did tell Automotive News last year that they designed the body with an inline-six in mind, a nod to the Supra's history. Hybrid rumors aren't dead yet, though - remember, we were hearing about all-wheel drive and supercapacitors in May 2014. The coupe is predicted to be a 2018 model, making its appearance sometime in 2017, and be "about 10 percent" smaller than the FT-1 concept. Related Video:
