I've owned this car since Feb 2009 (four and a half years) and have driven it regularly in local commutes and on the interstate at high speed. It is a solid car that needs some work -- were I to keep it I'd replace the tires, do a brake job, replace the windshield, and replace the rubber gaskets that are supposed to keep the T-Tops from leaking. The motor is strong - I put a timing belt in it about 15,000 miles ago. I've also replaced the clutch, alternator, and battery within the last 10,000 miles. This is not my primary car so it sits for weeks at a time but, as one would expect from a Toyota, it starts immediately every time and goes down the road without trouble. The A/C hasn't worked since I've owned and even though I live where it gets to 100 degrees in the summer, I've never bothered to find out what's wrong with it. If you buy this car you should expect a stiff ride, with more than it's fair share of squeaks and rattles - it's a 25 year sports car that's never been babied.
Someone bumped into the rear end which deformed the rear bumper, there are some minor dents and scratches here and there, the paint is weak in spots. To my knowledge the car has never been wrecked and shows no sign of any body repair.

Toyota recalling FJ Cruiser due to excessively bright headlights
Sun, 05 May 2013Now, hold on. This recall isn't quite as serious as it sounds. Yes, Toyota is recalling 11,489 FJ Cruiser models from the 2007 to 2013 model years, and yes, it's because the vehicles, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states, "fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, 'Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.'" But read the fine print and you'll see the catch: This recall is only for vehicles fitted with the automaker's auxiliary lighting kit that can be mounted to the front bumper.
Basically, the auxiliary lamp assemblies use 55-watt bulbs, and when these are turned on in conjunction with the upper beam headlamps, it's a pretty blinding sight. NHTSA states that excessively bright lights can blind other drivers, increasing the risk for a crash.
To remedy the situation, Toyota will replace the 55-watt bulbs with cooler 35-watt units. The recall is expected to begin later this month. Scroll down for the full details in the NHTSA report.
Unintended acceleration settlement hits Toyota's Q4 bottom line
Fri, 09 May 2014Depending on how you want to look at things, the US Attorney's Office $1.2-billion dollar settlement with Toyota in March over its unintended acceleration recall was either a big blow to the company or completely inconsequential. From January to March, net income fell five percent to 297 billion yen ($2.89 billion), compared to 313.9 billion yen ($3.05 billion) a year ago. However, the automaker still posted record full-year profits worldwide.
Operating profit also fell in the US by 9 percent to $498.1 million for the quarter, but sales were up by 6 percent to 581,261 vehicles. According to Automotive News, global revenue was still up from January to March by about 13 percent and vehicle sales were up 6 percent to 2.58 million units.
However, the payment to the feds did little to hold the company back last year. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, Toyota had net income of 1.82 trillion yen ($17.7 billion), compared to 962.1 billion yen ($9.5 billion) in the last fiscal year. Total vehicle sales were also up.
2015 Toyota Prius C is still colorful, still gets 53 mpg
Wed, 19 Nov 2014Few vehicles can match the affordable fuel economy of the $19,000, 53-mile-per-gallon Toyota Prius C, and that fact isn't likely to change for 2015, as the Japanese company has issued a moderate refresh of its sub-compact hybrid.
As mid-cycle refreshes go, this is a pretty standard affair, with a larger grille and tweaked LED headlights at the front of the Prius C, and more expressive taillights at the back. Toyota made some minor changes in the cabin, updating materials throughout, but not fiddling too much with the overall level of equipment.
Aside from those modest changes, this is the same fuel-efficient five-door, retaining its 1.5-liter, 73-horsepower, 82-pound-foot four-cylinder, while an electric motor tosses in an extra 26 ponies, for a total system output of 99 horsepower. Along with the 53-mpg highway rating, the C will return 46 mpg in the city.
