Up for sale is my 1985 Toyota MR2. I originally purchased this car November 11,2012 as a project car. ** I originally listed this car in June but did not sell it, I have now done more work to the car and have decided to relist it... I have also included some new pictures that highlight the paint work and the new rotors and brake pads

Mechanically the car was in good shape but I wanted to go through it and replace items that I thought should be replaced. I purchased the car with 89,600 original miles.. This was a sentimental purchase as I had purchased an original 1985 MR2 the first year of production and wanted to buy another one almost 30 years later!!! I do find that it was easier to get in and out of 30 years ago, oh well, age sucks!!

I completed the following items:

1. Full tune up including plugs, wires, filters etc.
2. Replaced Timing belt and water pump, new coolant
3. Replaced Battery
4. Replaced the parking brake cables with OEM units, "very expensive"!! Had to do this to pass inspection.
5. Replaced OEM Sealed Beam headlights with Hella US DOT H4 units, so they are legal in the US.
6. I primed and resprayed the aluminum trim with special Dupli Color trim paint since the old paint had faded badly, I also painted the rear view mirrors with Krylon plastic paint as they had faded as well.
7. I have now had the A/C converted to R134 and recharged, blows ice cold now!!! 8/27/13
8. I  replaced the stock rotors with drilled and slotted units as well as replacing the brake pads with ceramic ones. 8/27/13

I then replaced the original wheels and tires with Drif Z wheels and 195/50ZR15 Falken ZiexZE912 Tires, currently have about 1000 miles on them
I then took the car to a body shop to have the rear quarters rebuilt and repainted. I actually had everything repainted with Toyota Super red except for the front hood, front fenders and top.. The paint matches perfectly as the painter I used is very meticulous. There was some rust but not extremely bad like other cars I have seen.I left the front fenders alone as they had been resprayed prior to me having the car. There is a slight rust spot on the lower front fender but it is surface rust so I left it alone. There is also some rust underneath the car on the right side floor board, nothing structural but the new owner may want to weld and patch this. I also installed an original rear spoiler that I had purchased, it was used and had to be completely reworked  and resprayed, it now looks perfect!! You can see from the pictures, this car is in great shape both visually and mechanically. The interior is near perfect, there is a small blemish on the vinyl radio surround which you can see in the picture. I replaced a couple of missing plastic rivets in the headliner and really can't find anything else wrong. Seats show very little wear and really are amazingly clean.Radio works fine but I really don't listen to it as I love the sound of the engine!! Car shifts and steers tight, the only thing I haven't done is replace the struts. They probably should be done due to age but aren't really giving any trouble. I have the receipts for the work that I have done, but the previous owner didn't. The previous owner was the original owner, so this is a two owner only car. It has a current Virginia state inspection, so everything checked out. This car has a clear VA. title, I will not accept bids from 0 feedback bidders so don't even bother. Please, serious buyers only, I hate playing games!! I have prided myself on quality listings and honest descriptions, I have tried to be as detailed as I can.  I am selling now as I am looking for another project car, I have had a couple before this and just enjoy buying fixing and re-selling.

FYI, Wheels and Tires were 1000.00

Paint and Bodywork was 1200.00
Tune up, water pump and Timing belt was 900.00
Headlight replacement 170.00
A/C Recharge, Rotors and Pads 400.00

Toyota retires robots in favor of humans to improve automaking process

Sat, 12 Apr 2014

Mitsuru Kawai is overseeing a return to the old ways at Toyota factories throughout Japan. Having spent 50 years at the Japanese automaker, Kawai remembers when manual skills were prized at the company and "experienced masters used to be called gods, and they could make anything." Company CEO Akio Toyoda personally chose Kawai to develop programs to teach workers metalcraft such as how to forge a crankshaft from scratch, and 100 workstations that formerly housed machines have been set aside for human training.
The idea is that when employees personally understand the fabrication of components, they will understand how to make better machines. Said Kawai, "To be the master of the machine, you have to have the knowledge and the skills to teach the machine." Lessons learned by the newly skilled workers have led to shorter production lines - in one case, 96percent shorter - improved parts production and less scrap.
Taking time to give workers the knowledge to solve problems instead of merely having them "feed parts into a machine and call somebody for help when it breaks down," Kawai's initiative is akin to that of Toyota's Operations Management Consulting Division, where new managers are given a length of time to finish a project but not given any help - they have to learn on their own. It's not a step back from Toyota's quest to build more than ten million cars a year; it's an effort to make sure that this time they don't sacrifice quality while making the effort. Said Kawai, "We need to become more solid and get back to basics."

Toyota to recall 185k cars globally, including Yaris

Thu, 04 Jul 2013

Toyota has announced it is recalling a total of 185,000 vehicles worldwide for a power steering issue. Yaris and (overseas) Vitz models built between November 2010 and March 2012 could suffer a short circuit in their power steering control module if water gets inside. Should that happen, the power steering could fail, increasing effort when turning. The recall also includes the Verso-S and Ractis built from August 2010 to August 2011. The recall covers 130,000 vehicles in Japan and around 22,450 in Europe.
Only 74 units are being recalled in the United States.
Toyota says if the fault occurs, the vehicle will display the Electronic Power Steering warning light on the dash and a buzzer will sound. The automaker will alert owners by mail and dealers will replace the power steering control module free of charge. You can read the quick press release on the recall below for more information.

Toyota's Psy-style Waku-Doki ad inherits Japan's bizarre ad crown

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

A new Japanese Toyota ad featuring crisply suited businessmen driving into the jungle only to segue into a Psy-style music-video dance-off with a gorilla and natives is the latest car commercial to go viral. Jungle Wakudoki is the newest installment in a grand tradition of bizarre ads from the island nation that are by turns hilarious, head-scratching and occasionally even frightening.
Let's face it: My people are weird.
I'm half-Japanese and take suitable pride in my Asian roots, but even I can't figure out what's been slipped into the water coolers of the country's ad agencies much of the time - or the nation at large, for that matter. From Japan's ubiquitous obsession with all things adorable (kawaii) to its offbeat sense of humor and its bizarrely perverse and violent tentacle porn, it's clear there's a lot going on in the culture, and only some of it bubbles up to the surface in its marketing efforts. Much of the strangest and most amazing ads are for non-transportation products (e.g. laundry soap, snacks, energy drinks), but the automotive space has its fair share. This latest Toyota ad had me trawling YouTube for a common theme, trying to make sense of why these spots are the way they are. Scroll down to watch the Toyota ad in question as well as a bunch of other examples of Japan's most bizarre car-related ads and see if you can't find the thread that runs between them. Is it just that something's being lost in translation? Have your say in Comments.
