1978 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser - rebuilt over the course of the last 3 years. New metal - both rear quarters, rockers, front fenders. New brakes - front calipers, rear wheel cylinders, shoes, pad, master cylinder. New DUI electronic distributor. New alternator. New voltage regulator. New radiator. Carter high performance rotary vane fuel pump, weber carb, new Interstate battery. Front seats recovered all new seat belts. Warn driving lights. ARB front bumper (covered in LineX premium), 4+Rear Tire Carrier (covered in LineX premium), rear tire flares (LineX premium) Original 2F motor with Split header 3x3 sounds great. 315 70R 17 (35 inch) Mickey Thompson MTZ tires (less than 500 miles, spare has zero miles), Eagle Alloy wheels. Wheel base extended by flipping rear leaf springs (off-set mounting) and lengthening the rear drive shaft. This centers the rear axle within the rear wheel well and improves the ride. New Warn XD9000 winch. Dual CD player (60 W per channel), Kenwood speakers in front and Pioneer in rear. Many other new parts too numerous to list. A great looking truck that always gets attention when I rarely drive it. It would cost double what I am asking to have this truck built. Act quickly as this truck will not last long. |

Toyota to sell hot-pink Crown in Japan
Sun, 11 Aug 2013Akio Toyoda is doing a pretty decent job at the helm of the Toyota empire. This is the man, after all, that declared that Toyota would get new sports cars, and that they needed to be, not should be, rear-wheel drive. We can respect that. Toyoda is also trying to do away with his company's conservative styling and bring edgier vehicles to market.
Toyota's designers have done just that, although perhaps they went a bit too far. In November, Toyota debuted its fourteenth-generation Crown with a bling-bling fascia that makes Lexus' spindle grille look as conservative as a three-piece suit, and a retina-searing pink paintjob. See, in Japan, the Crown is to Japan's older crowd what the 2002 Buick Park Avenue is to America's senior citizens. As Automotive News reports, the idea with the pink was to draw attention to the grille, but it was originally intended as a debut item, only.
Now, Toyota is actually planning to offer the electric fuchsia Crown for sale to regular buyers. Interested parties will have from September 1st to September 30th to place an order for the big sedan. According to the AN report, Toyoda said to reporters at the debut, "My initial reaction was: 'You're kidding! Please, not pink." We wish they were kidding.
Toyota CamRally is vanilla spiced
Tue, 05 Nov 2013We weren't quite sure it was possible, but NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman and the other folks behind this Toyota Dream Build Challenge vehicle (check out the other cars in the challenge) have made the Camry, a versatile but vanilla family sedan, into a performance car to be reckoned with. And by stripping it (literally) of its versatility and injecting some spice into it, this rally-spec Camry does indeed appeal to the enthusiast crowd.
The appeal starts with the CamRally's vintage Toyota racing colors of red, orange and yellow painted on a widened body. Those wide fender flares and rocker panels, paired with the revised front and rear fascias (and massive rear spoiler), lend the car an aggressive look without being tacky, and enhance the aerodynamics. But peel back the skin and you'll find plenty of performance upgrades to back up the looks.
While Toyota doesn't say how much horsepower it makes, the CamRally's V6 is turbocharged, and we assume the car's brake upgrade is indicative of the engine's increased output. The stripped interior only contains what's needed for rally racing, including bucket seats, a motorsport steering wheel covered in Alcantara, a carbon-fiber dashboard and a roll cage.
Toyota engineer warns automous cars could increase fuel use, urban sprawl
Fri, 18 Jul 2014An increasing number of people are starting to consider the potential downsides of a transition to autonomous cars. The FBI is already looking at them for the potential ill effects on law enforcement, and a scientist for Toyota is raising the possibility that driverless vehicles could actually be detrimental to the environment over the long term.
Ken Laberteaux, who studies future transportation for Toyota, thinks that autonomous cars could lead to more pollution, not less, says Bloomberg. However, Laberteaux's theory isn't so much based purely on science as it is considering behavioral and historical trends. "US history shows that anytime you make driving easier, there seems to be this inexhaustible desire to live further from things," said Laberteaux during a presentation at the Automated Vehicles Symposium in San Francisco, CA, cited by Bloomberg.
Laberteaux's belief is that if commuters can make their drives easier, then they will be more willing to live farther away from the cities where they work. The end result would be more urban sprawl and increased pollution from the longer travel times.
