For sale is my cement gray 2013 Trail Teams Edition FJ Cruiser. I bought this truck intending to keep it as a toy for many years to come, but as many things do, things have changed and it's time to let it go.
My FJ is garage kept and only driven on occasion for fun. It has been well-maintained, including the recent recommended service at just under 10k miles. It still has Toyota Care, which includes a free oil change every 10k miles and a tire rotation every 5k miles.
I, however, do not wait for the free oil change and between each Toyota provided oil change and I rotate the tires even more often when possible.
I have spent lots of money building an off road SUV with some of the best aftermarket, quality-proven parts available. The list of everything done to it so far is as follows:

Icon Stage 5 suspension lift with 3" front coilover shocks with remote reservoirs and heavy duty coils, billet front UCA's, 3" rear extended travel shocks with remote reservoirs, Icon rear shocks and billet rear lower links.
Bandi 1/2" body spacer lift.
All-Pro Offroad APEX front IFS skid plate, Transmission skid plate and T-Case skid plate, e-locker guard and lower shock mount skids.
Red Line Land Cruiser rear lower link skids.
BajaRack Spy-Light Utility rack with Rigid Industries 40" E-Series LED light bar.
FJ Cowl mounts with Rigid Industries Dually D2 LED flood lights.
Factory switch conversion to power all LED accessories.
Shrockworks washer fluid reservoir kit to eliminate the poorly placed Toyota wf reservoir for future bumper replacement.
Bandi mount for CB antenna, FireStik 4' CB antenna, Uniden Bearcat 980 CB radio.
Springtail MPAC rear compartment side storage rack with quick fists and MPAC pouch.
Springtail MPAC front transmission straddle with pouch and CB mount.
TRS custom HID headlights with amber LED halos wired for driving lights.
Method Race Wheels 18" Double Standard in matte black with Nitto Trail Grappler M/T 295/70R18 E-rated tires (only 3k miles on them).
Bushwacker pocket-style fender flares.
Custom secondary fuse block with 100A circuit breaker fitted into the engine compartment with all accessories connected to it rather than directly to the battery.
All wiring has been done as professional as possible, making it look stock rather than homemade.

All of this totals over $50k if you buy a new FJ and try to build this from the ground up - the FJ was over $38k new.  I hope someone is able to enjoy it as much as I have and will use it for what it is capable of.  I currently have a payoff with my Federal Credit Union, but as long as there is a branch nearby you where we can conclude the deal, I am willing to drive it to you and fly back for an additional cost.
Thanks for looking!

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.

119K Toyota Avalon sedans recalled over airbag woes

Thu, 27 Mar 2014

Toyota has issued a voluntary safety recall for 119,000 2003-2004 Avalon models because in some cases the airbags could inadvertently deploy.
The automaker says that circuits within the airbag control module could be damaged by electrical noise, which could cause the front airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners to activate. Dealers are going to repair cars by adding an electrical noise filter to the module. Owners will be notified by first class mail.
Toyota Public Affairs Manager Cindy Knight told Autoblog that there was one reported injury caused by the sudden deployment, but there have been no accidents or crashes. The company is currently preparing the parts for dealers now, and the component takes 90 minutes to two hours to install. "We don't believe there are any other affected models," said Knight.
