We're selling my wife's 2009 Toyota Corolla. We bought it new. It looks and runs great! Needs nothing. It has never been smoked in. It is Capri Sea Green Metalic. The tires are almost new Michlin Harmonys. It has the following; Sun Roof, Toyota Remote Start, 6 CD In Dash Stereo w/ MP3, Leather Steering Wheel, Tilt Wheel, Fog Lights, Alloy Wheels, Body Side Mouldings, Mud Flaps, Vent Visors, Toyota Floor Mats, Intermittant Wipers, Cruise Control, AC, Power Mirrors, Locks and Windows, Remote Trunk Release, Tire Pressure Sensor System, and Power Steering. I think I got most of it. Most of the options are Toyota, not aftermarket. This car is a 4 Cylinder, Automatic Transmission and gets great milage! It has both Factory Keys and they control the door locks, the trunk release and the remote start. The paint really sparkles in the sun. I tried to show it in a picture. Carfax shows an accident, but it was just a minor fender bender with NO structural damage at all. The air bags didn't even deploy! We've always changed the oil at 5,000 miles and use Castrol Synthetic Oil. The car has 69,300 (approx) miles on it. The interior is very nice. Look at the pix. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. It is for sale locally so this sale could end at any time.  603.786.2295

Toyota Matrix not long for this world?

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

According to a report from AutoGuide, Toyota doesn't have plans to replace the aging Matrix hatchback in the United States after this year. If true, the timing coincides with the replacement for the Corolla, on which the Matrix is based, with that car slated to get its first complete redesign since 2006 (2008 in the US market).
We'd love to tell you how many Matrix models were sold by Toyota in the United States last year, but the automaker chooses to bundle Matrix sales with Corolla sales, so we have no idea. That said, we have to assume sales of the hatchback don't contribute much overall to the total number of Corolla-based machines.
We're also unsure if Toyota will choose to exit the youth-oriented compact hatchback market entirely, or if the automaker will rely instead on its hybrid Prius line and Scion models like the xB and xD.

Legal approach in $1.2 billion Toyota settlement could impact handling of GM recall cases

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

In the past, if an automaker did something wrong, they were usually prosecuted by the US government through something called the TREAD Act. Short for Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, it basically requires automakers to report recalls in other countries, along with any and all serious injuries or deaths, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Failing to report or attempting to conceal anything when there's been a death or serious injury constitutes a criminal liability. The idea is that this setup puts the onus on manufacturers to keep NHTSA apprised of safety related issues before they become a problem in the US, thereby allowing the regulator to better protect consumers.
In theory, it sounds like a relatively airtight set of rules for dealing with misbehaving automakers. That didn't stop the US Department of Justice from ignoring TREAD in its prosecution of Toyota's handling of the unintended acceleration recall, though. The result of this new approach, which charged Toyota with wire fraud, was a $1.2 billion settlement. Now, the wire-fraud approach could be used for the expected case between the US government and General Motors, based on the statements of Attorney General Eric Holder, who specifically mentioned "similarly situated companies" when discussing Toyota.

A few pre-race notes and a lot of photos from the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Sat, 14 Jun 2014

The 82nd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is on.
Audi has won 12 of the last 15 events, the scion of Auto Union is trying to make it 13 this year. To do so, it will have to overcome a situation faced only three other times during its dominance of La Sarthe: underdog status. Toyota has won the first two races of the year and claimed pole for this race, the rumor being that this year it's Toyota's race to lose.
And then there's Porsche. It's been 16 years since the Stuttgart brand raced on the top rung at Le Mans, three years years since it announced its return, just a year since it acquired Mark Webber in a signing that wasn't subtle and a few months since we got eyes on the 919 Hybrid.
