I purchased it almost 1.5 years ago from a Honda dealer in Southgate, MI. It was a one owner, woman owned vehicle. No accidents. It had 104,xxx when I bought it and it now has just over 116,xxx. Everything works, it is mechanically and structurally sound. It does not leak, or burn any fluids. Fly and drive, I am 15 minutes from Lansing Capital Airport. I would rather a local sale as I am more interested in a partial trade for a decent, reliable small car with the difference being made in cash on the buyers end.

Some of the pictures were taken prior to the Monstaliner going on. The odometer reading pictured is also incorrect. The 4runner is sitting at 116,760 miles as of 10/25/2013.

Here is the run down on the good and bad....

The bad:

Rust on the drivers rocker. Some perforation but it is not entirely gone. There is some spatter on the interior door panels from the Monstaliner. Its not bad, but it is there.

The fabric on the door panel on the drivers door is pulling away from the plastic. Ive been meaning to glue it back on, just haven't.

One of the elements in the rear defroster has lost continuity. But the defroster works otherwise.

The Good:

Everything works. Power windows, rear window, all transfer case functions, high low range. All buttons, switches work their appropriate accessories and all the accessories work. All fluids other than the brake and power steering fluid have been change and any accompanying filters. Transmission was fully flushed in my driveway. My intention in building this up was first and foremost to make it a safe daily driver.

New parts I have added/replaced since I took ownership.

- All fluids were changed except the brake and power steering fluid. Synthetics were used were available, which is just about everything. The transmission got a full flush in my driveway, almost 21 quarts.

- Yokohama Geolander AT/s tires, LT 256-75-16 have about 10,000 miles on them. Tread can be seen in one of the photos.

- OME 881/890 lift from Toytec. OME 90004 springs in the front and Monroe Magnum for an FJ80 in the rear. $700

- Toytec rear upper adjustable control arms to bring the pinion back in alignment. $450

- SPC/Light Racing front upper control arms to bring the caster back after lifting. $400

- Sonoran Steel adjustable panhard bar. $250

- New lower ball joints. 555 brand. $120

- New inner and outer tie rods. 555 brand. $175

- Poly steering rack bushings. From Wheelers Offroad. $20

- New Steering Guide. OE. $60. Installed less than 100 miles ago.

- New Denso Radiator $100

- New Aux Tranny cooler. I believe its a 24,000btu unit, but it could be a 19,000. Run in series with the radiator. $60

- New Denso AC compressor, condensor, drier/filter, expansion valve. $550 total in parts.

- New rear driveshaft built locally using 1310 series u-joints. I JUST rebuilt it as well. All 3 joints and the centering ball. $485

- Tundra Brake upgrade on the front with the 231 calipers. $330

- New rear brakes, shoes, drums, springs etc. $225

- Kenwood KIV bt-900 stereo and Cobra 18 WX STII in the dash. I custom mount these to fit into the double din opening. Looks OE.

- Custom built rear drawer system.

- Color matched Monstaliner on the entire body.

- Timing belt service done this past summer. I also replaced the fan bracket. Aisin water pump, OE thermostat, Koyo and NSK pulleys and Mitsobushi belt. I also have the 3 Toyota seals but did not use them since nothing was leaking. New Toyota crank bolt as well. $400

The sway bars and skid plates are currently not installed. If you want to reinstall the sway bars, new links and mounts will need to be purchased. I found that with the stiffer OME suspension, the sway bars are not only not necessary, but make the ride very harsh. I also have the OE rear upper control arms that will go with the runner.

I have most of the receipts. The ones I am missing are from the orders I placed with Rock Auto for the timing kit, the ball joints and inner/outer tire rods. Im sure Im missing a few others as well. But I take my maintenance serious since I trust this vehicle to haul my wife and kids around. No corner has been cut to insure it is a safe, reliable vehicle. I have been running Pennzoil Platinum in it for the past 10,000 miles as well.

PLEASE feel free to ask me any questions or if you want an image of a specific location or part.

The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers

Fri, Jun 24 2016

It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.

Toyota issues stop sale on 6 key models over seat fabrics; recall possible? [UPDATE]

Thu, 30 Jan 2014

Toyota has issued a stop-sale order on six of its core models due to concerns about the flammability of certain seat fabrics. The issue rests not with the cloth and leather covers themselves, but with a piece of seat heater beneath them that fails to meet US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for flame retardancy.
There have been no reports of fires or injuries from the affected cars, which include some of Toyota's biggest volume sellers. 2013 and 2014 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Sienna models equipped with heated seats are included in the stop-sale, as are 2014 Tundra pickups and Corolla sedans. The exact number of vehicles with the non-compliant materials are still being tabulated, according to The Detroit Free Press.
According to a Toyota spokesman, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been notified, although it remains to be seen if a recall will be issued. Outside of a full recall, though, it's unclear how Toyota will deal with vehicles equipped with the flammable materials that have already found homes.

Hyundai tops Toyota in annual CarMD Vehicle Health Index

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

CarMD has released its third annual Vehicle Health Index, which for the 2013 tracked the frequency and cost of repairs for "check engine" problems of 119-million vehicles built between the 2003 and 2013 model years. For the first two years of the index, Toyota ranked at the top of the list, but this year's results see Hyundai moved to number one, pushing Toyota down a spot.
The Korean automaker's rise to the top has been "fueled by its low repair frequency," according to CarMD. Toyota is second to Hyundai in lowest repair frequency, but Toyotas also have the highest average cost of repair. (Interestingly, General Motors vehicles have the lowest average.) Both Toyota's and Hyundai's manufacturer "health" ratings suffered this year, but Toyota took a bigger hit, which also is what helped Hyundai achieve the top ranking.
While Hyundai is the top manufacturer in the index, the 2012 Toyota Camry is the top vehicle. The best-ranking Hyundai was the 2010 Elantra (behind three Nissan models and four Toyotas), which took the number eight spot. Hyundai has six other vehicles in the top 100.
