This 2008 Turbo Sky Redline smells, looks and drives like it just came off the showroom floor. I bought it new in 2008 and have babied it ever since. It has never seen a dirt road and I hand polish it when it gets dusty. There are two tiny scratches on the back edge of the spoiler(see photo). It is an Arizona car and been garaged its whole life. This car WILL be a collector's item and with this low mileage and mint condition she is a keeper."

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WITH THE INTENTION OF KEEPING IT AS A COLLECTOR.  GM MADE A BIG ERROR WHEN THEY STOPPED PRODUCTION AND NOW THIS TURBO POWERED, SEXY SPORTS CAR IS BEING SCOOPED UP BY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND SAVVY COLLECTORS.   BEFORE PURCHASING THIS CAR I WENT TO THE BARRETT-JACKSON CAR AUCTION IN SCOTTSDALE AND IT SEEMED THAT MANY OF THE HIGH END AUCTIONS WERE OF SILVER AND METALLIC VEHICLES  WITH RED AND BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR.  JUDGING BY THE HEAD TURNS AND COMPLIMENTS FOR THIS CAR THE SILVER PEARL EXTERIOR AND RED/BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR WAS THE CORRECT CHOICE.  AT THE AUCTION, A COLLECTOR TOLD ME THAT THE SKY WAS SO SEXY LOOKING BECAUSE THE REAR FASCIA OF THE SKY IS HANDMADE FROM FIBERGLASS TO RESEMBLE THE FASCIA OF THE FERRARI F-430, WITH THE SHARK-LIKE FINS.  HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE EXHAUST TIPS ARE THE SAME YOU FIND ON THE PORSCHE 996.  THE REAR SPOILER IS THE CLINCHER IN THIS WORLD CLASS EUROPEAN LOOK STYLING.

FOR THIS AND SO MANY MORE REASONS I LOVE THIS CAR. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING EBAY FOR SOME TIME AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A 2008 SKY WITH MILEAGE THIS LOW (13,600 MI) AND LOOKS THIS SUPERB.  EXTREMELY CLEAN BODY AND INTERIOR.  ZERO ACCIDENTS.  WHEN I SAY THE CAR HAS BEEN BABIED, I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS EVER DRIVEN IT.  THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW.  IT LIVES IN ARIZONA IN A GARAGE WITH PLENTY OF ELBOW ROOM.  THE A/C BLOWS COLD AIR, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS PERFECTLY, THE BRAKES ARE STRONG AND THE SOUND SYSTEM IS TREMENDOUS.  THE MONSOON SPEAKERS GIVE BRILLIANT CLARITY AND FIDELITY OF SOUND.    YOUR WIFE MAY FIND YOU OUT IN THE GARAGE LISTENING TO YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC IN THE CAR.  THAT IS HOW GOOD IT SOUNDS.  EVERY MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WORKS FLAWLESSLY.  THE CAR LIVES IN ARIZONA AND THERE IS ZERO RUST.  NO LEAKS FROM THE TOP OR CAR. PAINT IS IN EXCEPTIONAL SHAPE.  THIS SKY NEEDS A NEW GARAGE AND SOMEONE WHO WILL CONTINUE CARING FOR HER IN THE STYLE SHE HAS BECOME ACCUSTOMED.

Car-crazy 5-year-old boy writes automakers for treasures, gets big response

Fri, Jan 25 2019

Part of the beauty of children is that they can find worth in something adults might deem unworthy or overlook entirely. Five-year-old Patch Hurty didn't see garbage or a broken piece of a car when he spotted a Ford badge lying on the side of a road. He saw an artifact, a souvenir, a start to a collection he could only dream of. Ezra Dyer of Popular Mechanics tells the story of Patch and his quest to turn that one lost badge into a museum of manufacturer logos. According to the article, Hurty is a car fanatic through and through, even using car names as a way of learning to read. After finding the Ford badge near his Connecticut home, he and his mom put together a plan to reach out to dozens of automakers, confessing his love of things on four wheels. In each letter, Patch assembled a picture of himself standing next to one of the cars, and a penny to pay for whatever he hoped was sent his way. The response was unexpectedly and overwhelmingly positive. Of the more than 50 letters he sent out, including to obscure or defunct companies such as Bugatti, Suzuki, and Saturn, a majority responded with warm notes and some type of souvenir. Two of the coolest responses came from Lincoln and Bentley. Lincoln sent a sketch of a Continental (all car lovers enjoy drawing cars, right?), and Bentley sent a wheel center cap. How awesome is that? The story reminds us of something that can easily be lost in all of the negativity involved with the auto industry: Everybody is in this because of a common infatuation with automobiles. For more details on the souvenirs Patch received and accompanying photos, read the rest of the story. Junkyard Gem: 2007 Saturn Sky

Sat, Jun 26 2021

The Pontiac Division didn't have long to live when the Solstice first appeared in 2005 as a 2006 model, and Saturn's head was inching toward the chopping block at about the same rate. Still, optimism reigned — at least, it did until the global economy fell apart — and so Saturn Dealers got a rebadged version of the Solstice to sell: the Sky. Available for just the 2007 through 2010 model years, slightly more than 34,000 Skies rolled out of showrooms before the doors were nailed shut. Here's one of those rare cars, found in a Denver-area self-service yard a few weeks ago. I've found a handful of discarded Solstices in car graveyards during the past few years, mostly with crash damage. This Sky endured a medium-hard impact in the right front corner, which sent it to this place. The 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter Ecotec still resides under the battered hood. The Sky Redline version had a turbocharged engine rated at 260 horses; we can assume that such an engine would be yanked and purchased by the first junkyard shopper that realized what it was. The base transmission in the Sky was an Aisin five-speed manual, but this car has the optional five-speed automatic.  The Sky had its own nose and some different badging, but otherwise didn't differ much from the Solstice.  For the South Korean market, the Sky got Daewoo G2X badges and was advertised as the ideal vehicle for high-speed chases through Seoul traffic. The same car went to Europe as the Opel GT. Sadly, GM ran out of money to make right-hand-drive Skies, so we never got to witness Holden or Vauxhall versions. Here's Bob Lutz describing the new Sky. Lutz really hated car names molded into plastic bumper covers, so he takes great care here to describe the genuine glued-on emblems. Related Video:

Cars with the most reckless drivers are full of surprises

Wed, Oct 13 2021

Insurify is a site for comparing auto insurance quotes. Because insurance shoppers need to submit information like the vehicles they're driving and the infractions they've compiled while driving those vehicles, Insurify has quite the database of correlations tying certain models to a habit of breaking certain laws. When the site's data analysts decided to compile a list of the top ten models for reckless driving citations in the decade from 2010 to 2019, the ranking contained a few wild entries. The Dodge Challenger making the countdown will surprise precisely zero people. But the Saturn L200? First, a definition: USLegal.com defines reckless driving as "driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety. It is the operation of an automobile under such circumstances and in such a manner as to show a willful or reckless disregard of consequences." So this list is a caution about particular drivers more than the cars. For a baseline, according to Insurify data, for any random model, 15 out of 10,000 people who drive that model have picked up one citation for reckless driving. Back to that Challenger, then. No shocker for being here, but it's actually number 10, with 44 out of 10,000 Challenger drivers nabbed for a willful disregard of consequences on the road. That's better than the first surprise entry, the Saturn L200, a sedan only on sale for six years, with the least horsepower on the list, and out of production since 2005. The data set put drivers of GM's extraterrestrial sedan at 45 reckless pilots per 10,000 drivers. There are two pickups on the list, the only modern one being the Ram 1500 at eighth, with a rate of 46 in 10,000. Somehow, drivers of the third-best-selling pickup in the U.S. outrun the overwhelming numerical superiority of the best-selling vehicle in the States, the Ford F-150. The other pickup is the Chevrolet K1500 at number five, with a rate of 56 in 10,000. This is not only the oldest vehicle on the list, it went out of production in 2002, before any other vehicle on the list. Between the trucks, the Volkswagen CC slotted in at seven with 47 in 10,000 reckless driving chits, the Cadillac ATS slipped into sixth with 48 in 10,000.  The top four is a bag of unexpected. The Nissan 370Z is the first hardcore sports car on the list at number four, with 61 in 10,000 Z drivers flaunting their Fairladys in the face of Johnny Law.
