Top Gear's latest trailer shows off a golden Bugatti Chiron

Thu, Feb 23 2017

Top Gear is returning on March 5, and after a lackluster first series with the new hosts, the new group seems determined not to hit a sophomore slump. Chris Evans is gone, and the latest teaser trailer shows the new trio of Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid strapped into some pretty fantastic cars, including the Bugatti Chiron and the Ford GT. All of the typical Top Gear segments appear to be present, though the quick cuts don't give us many details. The trailer shows a copious amount of powerslides from an assortment of cars, and even Chris Harris racing around Daytona. Aside from the Bugatti and Ford, cars from Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW, Aston Martin, and Alfa Romeo are all present. Co-hosts Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmitz don't appear at all, so it seems their roles may be downplayed to focus on three guys, as was the case pre-reboot. We have some hope for this re-relaunched show and will be keeping an eye out for more details in the lead-up to the series premiere. Porsche acquires ANDIAL, will integrate with in-house motorsports

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

Porsche has purchased longtime motorsports and tuning house ANDIAL.
The Fountain Valley, California-based tuning house ANDIAL has been around since 1975, when it was formed by the Arnold Wagner, Dieter Inzenhofer and Alwin Springer (the company got its name by combining two letters from each of their names). The three men met while working in a Porsche dealership in Southern California and then left to start a business that would put Porsches in victory lane all over the country.
Porsches prepared by ANDIAL won IMSA GT and Supercar Series championships, the SCCA World Challenge, four Pikes Peak class titles and the 24 Hours of Daytona six times. Alwin Springer left the company in 1997 to run Porsche Motorsport North America until 2004 and remains a consultant with PMNA, Wagner passed away in 2011 and Inzenhofer plans to retire this year. ANDIAL is still a going concern, Inzenhofer presiding over a scaled-down engine parts and restoration business. But Inzenhofer is retiring at month's end, making it a good time for Porsche to step in and take over the company's operations.

What hardcore 911 is Porsche working on now?

Thu, Apr 14 2016

Porsche has been spotted testing a new hardcore version of the latest 911. The prototype appears to blend the best elements from the recently facelifted 991.2 with those of the outgoing GT3 RS, which both follows logically and bodes well for the German automaker's latest track-focused performance machine. That means new lighting and other touches, but also more ventilation than a toxic chemicals facility. The bigger question, however, is what engine Porsche is hanging off the back. If history teaches us anything, we could be looking at one of several possibilities. For one, this could be a prototype for the updated 911 GT3 RS, carrying a modified version of the existing model's 4.0-liter flat-six, still naturally aspirated, but maybe with a few extra horses kicked in over the outgoing version's 500 hp. For another, it could follow in the footsteps of the previous limited-edition GT3 RS 4.0, but since the existing model already boasts that displacement, this one could go a step further at 4.2 liters. But then it might not be a GT3 at all: we could be looking at the rebirth of the GT2, the primary difference between the two being the absence or presence of turbochargers. Porsche hasn't done a forced-induction GT model since the GT2 RS of 2010, and that was essentially a 911 Turbo sans the all-wheel drive and any shred of sanity. Whatever is lurking under all that aggressive bodywork, we're looking forward to finding out. And we get the distinct feeling that it won't disappoint.
