My 1986 Porsche 944,

This car will forever hold a place in my heart as the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. When the summer came and the DC traffic was at a standstill, this car never overheated or sputtered. When the -10 degree winters came, my Subaru occassionally wouldn't start but my Porsche fired up first try. These cars are remarkable and only recognized by true Porsche enthusiasts. Onto the car:

*This will likely never be a showroom car. The leather is fading in places and the molding is getting loose but as is, this will be a great daily driver that is fun to drive and near bulletproof hopefully lasting its next owner many years to come.

THE GOOD:
-Strong daily runner, the car can be driven daily or just once or twice a month and you will never notice a difference in its performance or start up.
-Very reasonable leakage, most 944 owners are aware that these cars leak oil. I have always monitored this and never noticed any significant loss of oil plus the oil has been changed pretty regularly.
-Power windows and power driver seat work.
-The tires have worn very evenly and all have about the same amount of tread on them. I do not know how much life is left on them but these were 60,000 mile Tires placed on them about 30,000 miles ago. The brakes are fine and the car's alignment seems normal.
-The engine is very clean considering its age. No loose wires or hanging parts.
-Pop up headlights work great and function normally.

THE BAD:
-The odometer is stuck. This may turn you off but I have used this car about five days a week and have changed the oil 3 times since it stopped in late 2011 at 135,000. An honest estimate would be about 150,000 miles currently on this car.
-The AC and heater both 'run' but neither produce anything but air. I do not know how much it would be to fix these options.
-There is power to the existing Blaupunkt stereo but the scanner no longer changes channels so only static is heard on the speakers.
-There are two dents in the car (pictured below) someone backed into the left fairing and someone hit the rear.
-I sealed the sunroof because it was not functioning when I bought it and there was some leakage.

THE EXPECTED:
-The gas shocks do not work in the trunk or the hood, you will need to manually prop them up.
-The lever that pops the hood was broken when I bought it you now have to use pliers to pull the cord and open the hood.
-The leather seats are incredibly durable and comfortable but both are torn in the lower seat (pictured below).
-The power steering is tight. I have added the appropriate oil but it is starting to leak slowly. It still operates fine but its just a little tight.
-As mentioned above, this car is over 25yo and is starting to show some wear in the paint and the interior.

I probably talked a lot of people out of this car already, but for those of you who know the model and know the quality of its craftsmanship you are aware of how well made these cars are despite their flaws. I wanted to be completely honest about this car because I don't want a buyer to be dissapointed.

**Please realize that this is a daily driver that has been treated well and loved since 2007.

Bonus
-I have most if not all of the 'broken' or fallen interior pieces. They will be included if the next owner wants to try to reattach.
-I have some Porsche memorabilia (a likely collectible OEM filter and gasket), original key and key chain, wheel locks, and fuses and bulbs to be included.
-I have been using Valvoline oil since I bought the car and use ATF DEXRON for the power steering fluid.
-I will be happy to help the new owner with shipping services and might be able to help arrange local pick up.

Good luck and feel free to contact me with questions. Thanks. t

Trump reportedly says he wants to wipe German cars off the U.S. map

Thu, May 31 2018

BERLIN/FRANKFURT — A report that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pursue German carmakers until there are no Mercedes-Benz rolling down New York's Fifth Avenue dented shares in the luxury car manufacturers on Thursday. An excerpt from German magazine Wirtschaftswoche's article, which cited several unnamed European and U.S. diplomats but did not include any direct quotes, could not be independently verified, while a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Berlin referred questions to Washington. The news and current affairs magazine said Trump had told French President Emmanuel Macron in April that he aimed to push German carmakers out of the United States altogether. Macron's administration in Paris declined to comment on the report. The Trump administration last week opened a so-called Section 232 trade investigation into vehicle imports, which could result in a 25 percent tariff on cars on the same "national security" grounds Washington used to impose metals duties in March. This could destroy exports by German carmakers, which control 90 percent of the U.S. premium market and are the biggest European Union exporters of cars to the United States. BMW owns Rolls-Royce, while Daimler has Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen controls Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and Audi. Daimler, BMW and Audi declined comment. Porsche was not immediately available for comment. BMW shares were trading 0.5 percent lower at 0939 GMT, while Daimler and VW's shares were down 1 percent and 1.6 percent respectively, underperforming Germany's blue-chip DAX. Trump has railed against German carmakers before. And in early 2017, in an interview with German newspaper Bild, he said he would impose 35 percent tariffs on imported cars. At the time, the president called Germany a great car producer but said that the business relationship with the United States was an unfair one-way street. Germany's auto industry association VDA says its members exported 657,000 vehicles to North America last year, with total exports of vehicle components, cars, engines, as well as second-hand vehicles totaling 31.2 billion euros in 2016. Imports from the United States to Germany amounted to 7.4 billion euros, meaning a trade deficit of 23.8 billion euros the VDA's latest available figures show. However, German brands also have huge factories in the United States, where they built 804,000 cars last year, VDA said, providing jobs for U.S. workers. Berlin has reacted angrily to the U.S.

2015 Porsche Cayenne spotted with facelift

Wed, 03 Apr 2013

Although it's only been a few years since the current Porsche Cayenne was introduced, Porsche seems to be working on a midcycle update for its big SUV possibly in time to welcome the smaller Macan. As seen in these recent spy shots, it looks like the Cayenne will be getting a minor face- and butt-lift, but it's hard to say what other changes are in store or when the updated model will hit showrooms.
Up front, expect the Cayenne's new face to resemble what was just revealed on the 2014 Panamera, and we could also see this SUV using some of the new engines introduced on the Panamera including the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 or maybe even the E-Hybrid model. We're guessing that the new Cayenne could debut sometime next year likely for the 2015 model year. In the meantime, check out the gallery of spy shots above.

Porsche bringing Macan S Diesel to US instead of 4-cylinder [w/poll]

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

When Porsche unveiled the new Macan at the LA Auto Show, it announced two powerplants for the US market, both of them twin-turbo V6s: the Macan S equipped with 340 horsepower from its 3.0-liter engine, and the Macan Turbo with 400 horses from 3.6 liters. But those aren't the only engines Porsche will offer in its new compact crossover. Porsche is also offering the Macan S Diesel overseas with 258 hp, and reports have since indicated that a pair of four-cylinder models on their way: a 2.0-liter turbo four with 280 hp and four-pot turbodiesel of the same capacity with an as-yet undisclosed output.
Now Car and Driver is reporting that while those four-cylinder engines won't be making the transatlantic voyage to our shores, Porsche will offer the aforementioned Macan S Diesel in North America beginning in early 2015, nearly a year after the gas V6 versions arrive.
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 is based on the same engine found in the Cayenne Diesel and the Audi Q5 TDI on which the Macan is based. Of course, its 248 hp is substantially less than the 340 ponies in the Macan S, but its 413 pound-feet of torque outshines not only the 339 lb-ft in the Macan S but also the 406 lb-ft in the Macan Turbo. Acceleration times, however, suggest the Macan S Diesel is still slower, with a 6.3-second run to 62 mph than neither the Macan S (5.4 sec) or Macan Turbo (4.8). The good news is that the Macan S Diesel is tipped to undercut the price of both, dropping the oil-burning crossover's MSRP below that of the $49,900 starting price for the Macan S and the $49,600 for the base Cayenne. If that C/D prediction comes to pass, that will make it the Macan S Diesel most affordable Porsche sold.
