Vehicle Description
The 928 may be the most controversial Porsche ever, and that alone makes it a milestone automobile. All old Porsches are interesting, but 928s are especially worthy of collecting. And they'll never, ever, be any cheaper than they are now.

So here's a late 1986 model 928S that needs some TLC. While far from perfect, it represents an excellent opportunity. Let's go over the pros and cons of this particular car:

Pros: Excellent rust free body, good paint, cranks readily, doesn't smoke, and runs and shifts great. Tight suspension, good brakes, excellent wheels, lights all work (including pop-up headlights). Seats pretty good, carpets good. Nice Kenwood CD receiver. It's a very late '86 production car, which means it has many of the improvements normally associated with 1987 S4 models.

Cons: Passenger window doesn't work, sunroof doesn't work, front air conditioning fan doesn't work (rear air works), dash is cracked under carpet dash mat. Door locks work, but not smoothly. Door panels are pretty good, but need some reconditioning (see photos). Tires have good tread depth, but show some dry-rot.

Overall, this car drives surprisingly well, and you can make a very nice car out of it - but it might not be a great choice for a daily driver. Questions? Call Wade 770.420.8787

    Terms of Sale

    Our eBay Terms of Sale
Let's face it - it's rare that nice cars actually sell on eBay. Mostly, they'll bid up to about 80% of the wholesale value - which is about as much as most people are willing to pay without knowing more about a car than can be communicated in an eBay listing. While we sell a lot of cars to eBay buyers, it's almost always after they've contacted us and learned enough to feel comfortable with it's value. In the event of the rare actual online sale, we will contact the buyer by email after the transaction closes. Please respond by phone within 24 hours to confirm your intention to buy. The buyer of this vehicle must send (via PayPal, wire or overnight courier) $500 deposit within 3 business days, the balance and delivery must take place 7 days after the close of final bid. Please note: If the deposit is not received within 3 business days, we reserve the right to consider the transaction void and re-list or sell to another customer. The sale must be completed within 7 days after the auction closes. If we cannot confirm your intention to buy within one day, or the sale is not completed within 7 days, we reserve the right to re-list this vehicle or sell to another customer. Acceptable forms of Payment: Cashier’s checks and U.S.P.S. Money Orders. E-Loan drafts are not acceptable. Other forms of payment may be acceptable - please ask us.

The buyer pays for shipping. While we will help and advise throughout the process, all shipping arrangements are up to the winning bidder. We have no control over, and cannot be responsible for, shipper’s timetables or any damage incurred in shipping. We can often meet you at Hartsfield-Atlanta International Airport to take delivery at our shop if you choose to fly in-drive out. We deliver cars at our showroom by appointment, Monday - Saturday, 10:00 am EST - 5:00pm EST. Many of our customers have found that a one-way rental car works well. We'll help you drop off at the local depot.

Most of our cars have had door dings removed and rock chips professionally touched up as needed. The exterior and interior have been completely detailed. Please be aware, however, that you are bidding on a used car. This vehicle has been driven and has been subjected to normal wear and tear, both cosmetically and mechanically. While we recondition our cars prior to offering them for sale and describe all vehicles as accurately as possible, it's really not possible to describe every minute detail and imperfection. Please call us, before bidding, if you have any questions or concerns.

*We don't want you to buy a car from us if you're not happy with it. Just the same, please don't bid or buy if you're not serious about completing the transaction. We will refund your purchase price, in full, if you are unhappy with your vehicle - for any reason - providing that you have made a good faith effort to complete the transaction. We cannot be responsible for airfare or shipping costs. Any returns or other claims must be initiated within 2 business days of delivery.

By bidding on our eBay listings, you agree to post positive feedback to our eBay profile for this transaction at the time of delivery. If you feel that we have failed to meet our obligations, and we have not managed to satisfy you, you agree to allow Square Trade to arbitrate your claim and be bound by their decision. Our legislature says that Georgia residents must pay Georgia Sales Tax. All buyers pay $295.00 document fee (includes temporary tags and title transfer). We are a real "bricks and mortar" business, and as such must reserve the right to end any auction early if a "flesh and bones" buyer purchases a car that we have listed here. Thanks!

Ferdinand Piech (1937-2019): The man who made VW global

    Tue, Aug 27 2019

Towering among his peers, a giant of the auto industry died Sunday night in Rosenheim/Upper Bavaria, Germany. Ferdinand Piech, a grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, who conceived the original Volkswagen in the 1930s, was the most polarizing automotive executive of our times. And one who brought automotive technology further than anyone else. Ferdinand Porsche had a son, Ferdinand (called "Ferry"), and a daughter, Louise, who married the Viennese lawyer Anton Piech. They gave birth to Ferdinand Piech, and his proximity to two Alfa Romeo sports cars — Porsche had done some work for the Italians — and the "Berlin-Rome-Berlin" race car, developed by Porsche himself, gave birth to Piech's interest in cars. After his teachers in Salzburg told his mother he was "too stupid" to attend school there, Piech, who was open about his dyslexia, was sent to a boarding school in Switzerland. He subsequently moved on to Porsche, where he fixed issues with the 904 race car and did major work on the 911. But his greatest project was the Le Mans-winning 917 race car, developed at breathtaking financial cost. It annihilated the competition, but the family had had enough: Amid growing tension among the four cousins working at Porsche and Piech's uncle Ferry, the family decided to pull every family member, except for Ferry, out of their management positions. Piech started his own consultancy business, where he designed the famous five-cylinder diesel for Mercedes-Benz, but quickly moved on to Audi, first as an engineer and then as CEO, where he set out to transform the dull brand into a technology leader. Piech killed the Wankel engine and hammered out a number of ambitious and sophisticated technologies. Among them: The five-cylinder gasoline engine; Quattro all-wheel drive and Audi's fantastic rally successes; and turbocharging, developed with Fritz Indra, whom Piech recruited from Alpina. The Audi 100/200/5000 became the world's fastest production sedan, thanks to their superior aerodynamics. Piech also launched zinc-coated bodies for longevity — and gave diesel technology a decisive boost with the advent of the fast and ultra-efficient TDI engines. Less known: Piech also decided to put larger gas tanks into cars. Customers loved it. Piech's first-generation Audi V8 was met with derision by competitors; it was too obviously based on the 200/5000.

Porsche says turbo'd 911 engines will still be revvy

    Wed, Apr 15 2015

Porsche fans really, really don't like change. Remember when the 911 moved away from air-cooled engines? Now, as the company prepares to move the vast majority of the 911 line away from naturally aspirated powerplants, one of the brand's highest ranking officials is speaking out to prevent a similar outcry. Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, the head of powertrain development for the Volkswagen Group and a board member of the VW brand, told Car that turbocharging won't take away from the rev-happy nature of Porsche's current engines. "Turbocharging is possible with higher revs – it's not true to say that turbocharged engines must stop at 6000rpm," Neusser told Car at the 2015 New York Auto Show. "That's not true... If you look at McLaren, they already have in production turbo engines with high revs." With turbocharged engines, Nuesser explains, there's no need to go for a super high redline, because engineers are trying to spread the torque over the entire rev range. "It makes no sense to go to 10,000 rpm with a turbocharged engine," Neusser told Car. The other big concern that comes with the switch to turbocharging focuses on the 911's iconic flat-six exhaust note. Maintaining the car's well-known acoustic character shouldn't be an issue, Neusser said. "Noise is not a problem," adding that the Volkswagen Group knows a thing or two about building sweet-sounding turbos. "Look at the 911 Turbo; it has an extremely expressive noise today – that is not a problem. At the other end of the scale, the Golf R has it too," Neusser told Car. "You won't miss character with turbos, I promise." According to Car, the new turbocharged engines will arrive later this year at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, as part of the current 911's facelift. 2022 Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance Mega Gallery | The show in pictures

    Mon, May 23 2022

COMO, Italy — Held annually, the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance is, in many ways, Europe's version of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It takes place in a beautiful location, and it brings together an impressive selection of rare and valuable cars. It's a real treat for the eyes, the ears, and, if you're into champagne, the palate. The 2022 edition of the show was no exception: About 50 cars were shipped to Lake Como from over a dozen countries, and it wasn't just the usual suspects. Sure, there were a lot of pre-war cars (including a couple of one-off models), but some of the icons that younger enthusiasts grew up with (like the Lamborghini Countach) were present as well. This year's event was split into eight categories: The Art Deco Era of Motor Car Design, The Supercharged Mercedes-Benz, How Grand Entrances Were Once Made, Eight Decades of Ferrari Represented in Eight Icons, "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday," BMW's M Cars and Their Ancestors, Pioneers That Chased the Magic 300 KPH, And a design award for concept and prototypes. The jury gave the coveted "best of show" award to a 1937 Bugatti 57 S owned by Andrew Picker of Monaco, while the aforementioned classes were won by, respectively: The Bugatti 57 S, shown below, A 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet, A 1956 Chrysler Boano Coupe Speciale, A 1966 Ferrari 356 P Berlinetta Speciale Tre Posti, A 1961 Porsche 356 B Carrera Abarth GTL, A 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL, A 1989 Porsche 959 Sport, And the Bugatti Bolide concept unveiled in 2020. Winning at Villa d'Este is a big deal: The cars are judged by a panel of highly experienced judges. No one gave me a scoring sheet, presumably out of fear that I'd award points to the late-model Fiat 600 lurking in the parking lot, but several cars that didn't win an award caught my eye. One is a 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, a grand-prix racer that was once owned by King Leopold III of Belgium and that has never been restored — its patina is inimitable. Another is a 1961 BMW 700 RS. One of two built (the other is in the BMW collection), it's a tiny, ultra-light roadster related to the 700 and powered by a 697-cubic-centimeter air-cooled flat-twin tuned to develop 70 horsepower. It won several hill-climb events during the 1960s, and it's one of the rarest cars ever to wear a BMW roundel. Aston Martin's freshly-restored 1979 Bulldog concept was cool to see as well; check out the cassette player integrated into the headliner!
