Most minor door dents and imperfections have been repaired over the years - as recently as 2009. However, underside skid plate was creased after inadvertently hitting an unseen parking curb at low speed. The skid plate was bolted back into place by my mechanic and is still fully functional. Additionally, there are two small plastic rocker inserts missing from the center console."

1987 Porsche 924S. 90,100 miles driven exclusively by original owner.

This Porsche was both a superb “fair weather commuter” and an “exciting weekend ride” used sparingly averaging under 3,500 miles per year. It was rarely driven in the rain or snow and was stored most winters under cover as indicated in one of the attached photos. The Porsche was a reliable, high MPG car during the week in rush hour and was a great deal of fun driving in high speed curves on country roads on the weekend with its perfect 50/50 weight balance.

Full leather interior was added as a $3,200 investment upgrade in 2007 (73,000 miles) replacing the original cloth seats . The original seats have been retained for inspection if desired.

My Porsche is in excellent condition  with the exception of the following items as indicated in the condition description:
- A creased, but repaired and fully functional, unseen skid plate
- and two missing small plastic inserts on the center console.  These were "rocker panel" inserts that were not used. Inserts could be readily fabricated; but, I was advised by the professional who installed my leather seats that it would be preferable to leave the console unchanged for full disclosure and inspection by potential buyers.

We are moving out of state and "down sizing" to a small "empty nester" house with only a two car garage. My Porsche has been a great car that has been fun to drive since I purchased it new 26 years ago; but, we just will not have room in our new garage and we do not wish to pay for outside storage. .

The car is also for sale locally at the same "buy it now" $6,800 or best offer - hence, it may not be available on ebay if there are local inquiries from other sources.

References can  be provided to serious buyers attesting to the maintenance history and interior upgrades.

New J.D. Power Initial Quality Study puts Porsche, GM in spotlight

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

J.D. Power and Associates has released its annual Initial Quality Study, and this year, Porsche and General Motors took the spotlight. The study, which asks new car owners to report problems experienced during the first 90 days of ownership, found that overall, the industry averages 113 problems per 100 vehicles.
Porsche managed a score of just 80 problems per 100 vehicles, while GMC took the second spot on the podium with 90. Lexus filled out the top three with 94 problems per 100 vehicles, followed by Infiniti at 95 and Chevrolet at 97. The study also looks at specific models, and found the Lexus LS to enjoy the best initial quality at 59 problems per 100 vehicles.
Interestingly enough, the report found that around two-thirds of most owner problems experienced in the first 90 days are attributable to vehicle design instead of mechanical failure. Specifically - echoing a refrain we've been hearing for the last few years - owners are having a hard time figuring out how to use the technology present in their new vehicles. Head over to the J.D. Power site for more information, or scroll down below for the company's related press release.

Crash sends race car driver sliding into first place

Mon, Nov 21 2016

A Belgian race car driver won an unexpected victory at the 2016 FIA GT World Cup race last weekend when he slid to victory on the roof of his car. According to Motorsport.com, this year's FIA GT World Cup race at the Macau Guia race track in Macau was more accident prone than usual. The race had already been delayed by one crash earlier in the day when Belgian driver Laurens Vanthoor went into Mandarin Bend too hot chasing Porsche driver Earl Bamber, to whom Vanthoor had just lost his lead. Vanthoor's Audi clipped a wall at about 155 miles per hour causing his car to flipped on to its roof and continued down the straightaway at speed. Thankfully, despite the speed and violence of the crash, Vanthoor escaped mostly unscathed. Officials immediately red-flagged the race and, because of delays caused by the earlier crash, the race was called. Since the race was canceled, officials performed a countback on the previous lap's results and declared Vanthoor the winner despite the fact that he finished upside down. In the aftermath, a shaken Vanthoor questioned whether or not he deserved to win. "I don't really know if I deserved it in a way, as I crashed and made a mistake and I am still a winner – which is very awkward," Vanthoor told Motorsport. "But I don't really know what to say. It would have been a better show for everybody without the crash and a better victory, but I don't know what to think about it." Despite premium carmakers going downmarket, luxury auto sales stick at 10-11%

Thu, 16 Jan 2014

According to research conducted by global information company IHS Automotive, the leporine birthing of new models by luxury manufacturers over the past six years hasn't increased their market share in the US. Even as car sales reached 15.6 million units, IHS says what's happened instead is that luxury buyers are merely moving from one brand to another, moving from larger luxury vehicles into hot segments like compact luxury crossovers or leaving the market at the same rate as other buyers enter.
Whether broken out by makes or by segment, market share has rollercoastered inside a narrow band from 10.5 to 11.5 percent since "at least" 2008. Closer investigation reveals the shifting boundaries in the aspirational pond, with brands like Mercedes-Benz and Audi gaining territory as Lexus and Lincoln lost it, and Saab and Hummer were buried, dead, under it. One neat note is that Tesla has gone from a share of zip to .12 percent.
The subcompact and compact crossover segments show growth, with those little high-riders jumping from .3 percent to 1.16 percent of overall industry sales. Their rise, though, is concomitant with the decline of four other segments: compact and midsize cars and fullsize cars and SUVs. We think the next few years that will tell if the small-car expansion can overcome the large-car retraction, with a phalanx of smaller offerings like the CLA only recently hitting the market and others like the GLA, Macan and Q1 doing so in the near future.
