A RARE GEM AND THE PERFECT COLLECTOR CAR

This is an excellent example (not a concourse car but very original and in incredible shape for its age) of an original 1974 914 2.0L
California blue plate car that runs and drives great. This 914 is fitted with it's original engine number 014234 and all the original fuel injection is in place and working correctly.

When I purchased this car it was (and still is) arrow straight with no rust and only had a few minor dings and paint scratches and I wanted it perfect so we recently detrimmed the entire exterior, including bumpers, body seals, top seals, sail panels and the car was re sprayed in its original color of sunflower yellow. We stripped all paint off to the metal (verified car is accident free, and rust free including all known problem areas including the "hell" hole and lower sills). We replaced almost 95% of all exterior body/top seals in the process including new vinyl sail panels. Car has the desireable Fuchs alloy wheels and tires have great tread remaining.

This car is all original except for the following:
- Aftermarket steering wheel (original included but plastic horn surround is detached)
- Aftermarket mirror (original included), radio antenna, and carpet was replaced with an appropriate reproduction that looks the same as original.

It also has the Porsche dealer/port installed A/C system from the period, the compressor turns freely but system does not blow cold. The engine runs great and shifts in to all gears with no problems. I just had most engine vacuum hoses replaced along with a valve adjustment and oil change.

Now a little bit of history. This 1974 Porsche 914 was purchased originally in California and was owned by original owner and stored in air conditioned warehouse along with a large collection of other vehicles until the owners passing, then it was sold at his estate sale and the car was purchased by 2nd owner and transported to N.C. in 2004 and remained indoors until my purchase in 2012. The odometer works correctly and I believe the mileage to be accurate and not turned over but obviously cannot be sure of that, as no records accompanied the car from original estate sale. I am available by email to answer any questions or provide any additional information not listed. A Porsche Certificate of authenticity accompanies the car

Porsche 912 is no longer the brand's black sheep

Fri, Dec 12 2014

If you haven't looked recently, prices for many vintage Porsche 911s are now well out of the realm for mortal men to purchase. However, the growing values have their advantages because they mean that the 912 is being better accepted as a member of the Porsche family. In a new video, Petrolicious talks to one owner about his mildly modified example while the coupe zips through the backroads and city streets of France. Launched around the time of the 911, the 912 shared its body but retained the four-cylinder engine from the 356, rather than the new six. The older mill helped make the 912 cheaper to buy, but it also tarnished the coupe in the eyes of Porsche fans for years. Much like the four-cylinder 914 and 924, the 912 just seemed like a black sheep in the shadow of its more powerful brother. Following two massive changes to his life, Julien Borne bought a 1967 912 as a project to get back on the road. After hours of welding, wrenching and beating out panels by hand in his grandparents' neglected country house, he crafted this gorgeous example. Check out the video to hear his story, as Petrolicious shows why the model's stigma is wearing off.

1949 Gm?nd Porsche shows the birth of an icon

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

The Austrian village of Gmünd is more than just difficult to pronounce; it's also the birthplace of the Porsche brand. Before the company ever started building sports cars at its current home base near Stuttgart, the fledgling business completed several vehicles in the tiny town in Southern Austria. In this video, former Pikes Peak International Hill Climb champion Jeff Zwart takes a look at a 1949 Gmünd coupe to see how the company has evolved since its earliest days.
The thing to note about the Gmünd-built Porsches is their absolute design simplicity. The phrase "form follows function" gets bandied around a lot, but it really means something when you look at these early cars. However, the minimalism was partially out of necessity. The vehicles were meant to be sporty but certainly weren't rockets. Power came courtesy of a modified Volkswagen Beetle engine, and anything extraneous would have slowed the models down. Scroll down to watch Zwart go back in time to Porsche's beginnings.
