1999 Porsche 911 Carrera C2 996 on 2040-cars
Pasadena, California, United States
|
Here's a 1999 996 C2 with slightly less than 68,000 miles. The car holds
a California salvage title but there is no Carfax history to explain why. I own a
body shop and we cannot tell why the car would have been salvaged, the
only evidence of any body work is a driver's side quarter panel and rear
bumper cover which have been repainted. The paint work does not extend
into the door jamb and there is no evidence of tub repairs anywhere, no
marks where a puller was used or evidence of any replaced suspension
parts. It aligned perfectly and has held that alignment for the last
7000 miles of driving.
The car was purchased at a dealer auction in Texas then brought to California. It was bought by a dealer for his son but the son decided to buy another car. I bought it from the dealer with all the auction paperwork and the Texas salvage title. I have used the car as my daily driver and parts chaser for the last 7000 plus miles and the car runs and drives great, no issues. I have not done anything but change oil and replace the rear tires. The car is bone stock except for the CCW wheels (I don't want to sell them separately) and a set of H&R Sport springs, which I installed here at my shop. It also has a Kenwood stereo with a CD changer in the trunk. There are a considerable number of small stone chips on the nose and someone closed the hood on something leaving a small pointed dent facing outwards. The struts that hold the hood up need replaced, the console lid is missing and the remote locks are not working. Otherwise the car is quite clean overall, the interior is very nice with no rips or tears in the seats and everything else works. The front tires are 245/40/18 Blacklions with 7000 miles and the rears are 315/30/18 Pirelli P Zeros with 900 miles. The car has no leaks and I have no evidence to suggest the IMS bearing was done. However, after doing all the research myself I decided it was not worth the time and effort to replace it, especially considering the car is a 1999. It has been a good car and very reliable, also handles great and the gearing is absolutely perfect. This has been my first Porsche and overall I have been impressed with the car. Please ask all questions before you bid as I will not accept any returns on this item. Vehicle is sold as is, where is with no warranty of any kind expressed or implied. I invite independent pre purchase inspections, or feel free to come by and take it for a drive. To arrange for a test drive or an inspection, or to ask any further questions please feel free to call us at 626-804-3780. On Feb-28-14 at 14:46:33 PST, seller added the following information: An ebay member Googled the VIN for this vehicle and discovered the following information, some of it conflicting. I am listing everything both he & I found but I cannot vouch for any of it to be true. The only information I know to be true is what I have described above. |

Motor Trend holds World's Greatest Drag Race for the third time
Fri, 23 Aug 2013As part of Motor Trend's Best Driver's Car competition, the buff book has held its third iteration of the World's Greatest Drag Race. With an airfield and a dozen of the world's finest performance cars at its disposal (oh, and a helicopter), the MT team did what any good group of enthusiasts would do, and tried to figure what car could cover a quarter mile the quickest. World's greatest drag race, indeed.
The contestants, as MT points out, cover a huge variety of engine types, drivelines, aspiration types and body styles, making for a genuinely varied and interesting field of competitors. Here's the full list of cars taking part.

Porsche sells a $6,570 office chair
Thu, Mar 31 2016If you're in the market for a new seat and a Porsche fan, then the German company might have the chair of your dreams. Be ready to spend some serious cash, though. The Porsche Office Chair RS looks identical to what is in the company's vehicles, and Porsche promises the chair uses the same leather and Alcantara as in the sports cars. The brand's crest comes embossed on the headrest, too. Buyers also get the usual features you would expect from an office chair like adjustments to the seat height and armrests. There's also a jacket hook at the back. However, the coolest part is the electrically adjustable backrest with a rechargeable battery for power. If the Office Chair RS has one downside, it's the price. Porsche's website shows a list price of $6,570. If you shop around, that's a similar to what a Porsche 944 will set you back, and you can actually drive the 944. If you're looking for something slightly less expensive, Porsche also has a regular office chair that looks very similar to the RS but retails for $5,690, which still isn't much of a bargain, but is pretty cool nonetheless. Jay Leno welcomes finely rebuilt Porsche 356 into his garage
Wed, 15 Jan 2014Not a month after the Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer visited Jay Leno's garage, another artfully restored Porsche has rolled in. This time it's a 1957 Porsche 356A Outlaw, the "outlaw" moniker referring to Porsches that have been restored outside the bounds of period-correct orthodoxy.
This 356A was literally done from the ground up by Michigander Chuck Olenyk, the floor of the car having fallen apart so badly that he couldn't remove the roof at first since it was holding the vehicle together. Olenyk said that of the 2000 hours over seven years that he spent restoring the car, 500 were spent just on repairing the rust. That's undoubtedly some of the reason why when he tried to sell the unrestored car as a roller in the nineties for $1,000, no one would take it off his hands.
Olenyk fitted a mildly tuned engine from a Porsche 912, the transmission from a 356B, the brakes from a 356C, Fuchs mags and a modified replicar Speedster roof from Intermecchnica. It lacks nothing even with just 115 horsepower, and it adds to that with charm and aural appeal. You can see and hear the full story in the video below.
