with this rare 930 Performance Body/Chassis option, it is the complete 930
Turbo Carrera Car minus the turbo charged drive train. Or you could say,
minus the high maintenance and headaches, which makes this a very solid and
sought after car. In 1984 the U.S. EPA would
not allow Porsche to export 930 Turbo cars to the USA, so they exported the car
minus the turbo charged drive train. This option was called the 930
Performance Body/Chassis option. [Option code: 491] These cars are very rare being that they
were produced for The car is in very nice
condition in and out as you can see in the pics. I have owned it for 16 years.
It has never been in rain during that time. It is always covered in
the garage with a tan flannel lined fitted cover which is also included with
the car (see pics). As you can see in
the pic of the rear of the car, it has a B&B stainless header exhaust
system w/heat exchangers that has been kept polished through the years. This car has been entered
into three shows over the years and has placed very well each time. In 1998 the car won Second
Place in its Class at the Cleveland German Auto-fest. This was published
in the Northern Ohio Region Porsche Club of In 1999 the car won First

Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport Tires (225/45ZR17 and 275/40ZR17) Below is an original article
regarding the important history of this M491 “Turbo Look” street car: These special order Carreras contain many suspension and body
upgrades developed by Porsche’s competition department. The 1973 RSR 2.8
Carrera was the first example of Manufacturing Option “491” developed
specifically for Group 4 road racing. This track-dominating car appeared on the
scene with bulging fenders, looking like a “wide-bodied” 911 on steroids. One
notable chassis improvement was the relocation of rear suspension mounting
points. This change in suspension geometry and rear trailing arms kept newly
developed 11-inch rear wheels and tires firmly planted on the road. Stopping
power was vastly improved by using drilled and vented rotors with finned
4-piston calipers originally developed for the all-conquering 917. Over the
years scores of victories would be won by many a 911 with the famed M491
option. During the late seventies, Porsche
quietly began offering “Turbo Look” street cars; most being produced between
the years of 1984 thru 1989. Heavier than original track cars, but
incorporating similar production parts; every factory “Turbo-Look” Carrera has
a unique pedigree and connection to these legendary racing cars and their
variants by virtue of its recognized M491 option build code. |

VW won't let emissions scandal keep it from racing
Sat, Nov 28 2015The Volkswagen Group may have its hands full dealing with the diesel emissions scandal. But that doesn't mean it will be curbing its considerable racing programs. At least not in any significant way. This according to Matthias Muller, who recently moved up from his previous position as Porsche CEO to preside over the entire group. Speaking with Autosport at the World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain this past weekend, Muller emphasized the importance of racing to the company. "The motorsports programs are not in danger of being dropped or significantly reduced because motorsports is very important for the group and the brands," said Muller. "Basically we do not question our motorsport efforts." Of all the brands under the group's umbrella, several have prominent, top-level factory works racing programs, and others support customer racing teams. The Volkswagen brand has emerged as the dominant force in the World Rally Championship, securing both titles over the past three years. Both Porsche and Audi compete in the top tier at Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship, trading places in the winner's circle. Audi also competes in DTM, and alongside Lamborghini, Bentley, and Porsche, and also offers GT3 and GTE racing cars to private customers. Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, and Seat (once the leader in touring cars) all run their own spec racing series as well. Skoda continues to compete in lower-level rallying, leaving only Bugatti to draw on its prominent pre-war grand prix racing history. To hear Muller tell it, those racing programs – or at least the top-levels ones among them – aren't going away anytime soon. But there may still be some tweaks here and there, and we shouldn't expect any new programs to be launched in the near future. Porsche, for example, is anticipated to wind down its factory involvement in GT racing, after winning both the drivers' and manufacturers' titles in the WEC GTE Pro class this year in addition to its LMP1 victories. Instead it will focus on preparing new racing versions of the 911 for client racing teams. The auto giant was also reportedly close to branching out into Formula One in partnership with Red Bull. But after negotiations were interrupted by emergence of the diesel emissions scandal, that deal fell apart. It remains unknown which brand might have been represented in the F1 engine-supply program.
China bans military license plates on luxury autos
Wed, 01 May 2013Driving a vehicle with a military license plate in China provides many privileges. Legally reserved for official vehicles only, the designation apparently allows drivers to enjoy special liberties on the roads, including breaking traffic laws, filling up with free fuel and receiving light-and-siren escorts through congested cities. So attractive are the benefits that there is a secondary market for used legal and counterfeit plates - especially among those wealthy enough to afford luxury cars. But all of that is reportedly coming to an end, as President Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, is on a mission to fight corruption in his country.
A new license plate system goes into effect today, and it is designed to "maintain social harmony, stability and the reputation of the military," says the PLA Daily, the armed forces' official newspaper. While the abuse has been going on for many years, the internet has put the spotlight on the bad behavior, and the negative press does not represent the morals and true colors of the armed forces, say officials.
While military-plated Porsche drivers have been singled out as offenders, Bloomberg notes that all vehicles with engine displacements above 3.0 liters and with a sticker price in excess of about $73,000, will be banned from receiving military plates. This includes vehicles from Audi, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln and the Volkswagen Phaeton. Even if drivers are savvy enough to circumvent the new issuing system, the military has put technology at toll gates to catch users of counterfeit plates. There has been no word on the punishment if caught.
2015 Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival
Thu, Aug 13 2015Considered the big kick off of the major festivities surrounding Monterey Car Week, this year's Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival certainly didn't disappoint. For those unable to make it to the California coast, our own Drew Phillips was on hand to snap some of the beautiful vehicles on display for this gorgeous gallery. Held annually at the Monterey Jet Center, the event is always a feast for the eyes by collecting planes, a gang of exotic supercars, and some the top cars crossing the auction block over the coming days, like a Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda convertible. The Ford GT both new and old was a major attendee at this year's party. Among them, the Petersen Museum brought along an original racecar and a GT40 MKIII to promote an upcoming exhibit. The classics were complimented by the latest version that has continued to keep tongues wagging. The GT wasn't the only classic with a modern update there. Singer used the posh event for the North American debut of its stunning restoration of the Porsche 911 Targa. Shelby American was also at the revival for the public unveiling of the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe. On the more modern front, Honda was in attendance with the future NSX and one of the McLaren F1 cars that the company's engine powers. For further proof of the ritzy folks that attend this soiree, Pagani and Koenigsegg both had stands to show off their extremely quick wares.
