Up for auction is a 73 911S Targa. It's a very complete very original numbers matching car that despite it's outward appearance runs, drives, shifts and stops very well. Obviously it's in need of restoration, but all of the pieces are there including the original and desirable sport seats. There is a tool kit that is largely complete and the original keys (all 3) and the original Porsche tag along with the original Driver's Handbook. I have the Porsche COA for this car and it shows Koni shocks, sport seats, and additional cooling coil. Not sure what the last item means. Either the oil cooler or air conditioning. As you can see from the photos, there is some rust in the front pan area & the battery boxes which is very common on these cars. The floors are very clean except for a small area in the front passenger floor (pictured). All of the other common rust areas appear to be totally rust free (rockers, door bottoms, fender bottoms, window corners etc...) There is evidence that this car has been hit in the right front & pulled. This must have happened when the car was nearly new due to the age of the paint. It also appears that it was involved in a fender bender at the rear of the car around where the engine lid latches. The license panel has been replaced and the engine lid has been repaired but there is still minor damage to the body member that holds the engine lid latch. I do believe that the paint from the doors rearward is original, but I can't be positive. The left door & fender show signs that this car was parked by braille at least once in it's life. So, it is a great starting point for someone who wants to restore one of these cars. Mechanically it is VERY sound and recently had $3500 in fuel/ brakes/ alternator & battery work, so you can drive it for a bit before you take the plunge if you like. It runs & drives like a 2.4 S should and is a LOT of fun. I'm thinning my herd as I'm restoring my 59 356 cab and am losing motivation for future projects. I have done my best to represent this car accurately through my description and photos. Email any questions. Good luck bidding!

Please do not email me with offline offers. Within the first couple of hours I had nearly 40 offers for the 2 cars I have listed. I am letting the auction run it's course. I have had several questions about the paint and as the ad says, I believe the back of the car is original paint, so this is the original color. The COA shows light ivory (11) with black leatherette (11). The engine # is 6331563 and the transmission # is 338197. The reserve is very reasonable, so bid to win. Thank you.

On Feb-10-13 at 11:17:21 PST, seller added the following information:

Ebay is having technical issues that prevent me from adding photos to either of my listings. As soon as I can I will post a copy of the COA. The optional equipment reads as follows:

US Equipment
Koni Shocks Instead Of Boge
Sport Seats
Additional Cooling Coil
Information Not Available/563
Dunlop Tires

The car is equipped with A/C and the under dash vents are in good shape. It has been suggested that the "information not available) may pertain to the A/C.

2014 Porsche 911 Targa takes its crop-top off in Motor City

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

Back in 1965, Porsche invented the 911 Targa as a matter necessity. Believing that a finicky National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was prepared to outlaw convertibles, the innovative automaker created the half-open car as a way to keep wind rushing through owners' hair. Though far removed from those formative days, it seems as though the 2015 Porsche 911 Targa has come to the Detroit Auto Show with a new-school version of some old-school tech.
While the last Targa featured a trick sliding glass roof at the touch of the button, the new car dramatically swallows a traditional-looking panel via an exceptionally complex-looking mechanical operation. The net result is "the same fun factor and freedom" that can be had with a complete convertible, though with slightly more open-driving protection while underway.
And, as is the case with all of the current 911 range, getting underway can be done with reasonable rapidity. The entry-level Targa 4 rocks a 350-horsepower, 3.4-liter flat-six engine just behind the rear axle, making that car good for 175 miles per hour at the top end (with the seven-speed manual, 174 mph with PDK) and a 0-to-60 sprint of 4.6 seconds. The Targa 4S, meanwhile, offers 400 horsepower from 3.8-liters of boxer six, runs to 60 in 4.2 seconds and hits a top "track speed" of 183 mph.

The holidays are coming and this Singer Designs book is great

Thu, Nov 12 2015

None of us should expect to get one of Singer's beautifully reimagined Porsche 911s for the holidays, but a new book titled One More than 10: Singer and the Porsche 911 at least lets you give, or receive, some sensational photos of them. The 275-page book tells the story of Singer founder Rob Dickinson and what inspires him to put so much effort into making 911s even better. The opinions of auto writers and industry personalities accompany Dickinson's tale, but the lavish photography is the true highlight. Based on the preview photos in the gallery above, the shots perfectly capture the company's machines from all the best angles. Former Autoblogger Michael Harley co-authors the book. There might still be time to order the $85 book for a friend (or yourself) in time for the holidays because the publisher guarantees delivery by Christmas for the first 200 of them. Dickinson will also sign copies at the Petersen Museum's re-opening preview day on Dec. 6. The publisher will also offer 100 copies of a limited edition for a hefty $911. These will come in a custom display case from Singer's craftspeople, and they'll include exclusive artwork. SINGER VEHICLE DESIGN EXCLUSIVITY MAY NOW BE MORE ATTAINABLE AS POINT OF ENTRY BEGINS WITH BACKGROUND STORY "One More than 10: Singer and the Porsche 911" New Book – Perfect Holiday Gift for Porsche 911 Fans PR Newswire, LOS ANGELES – November 10, 2015 As the world continues to take notice of a little restoration shop in Southern California that has provided a re-birth of sorts to old and tired Porsche 964s, many have come to believe the ability to enter the inner circle of Singer Vehicle Design was well beyond reach. However, as the holiday season draws upon us, there's one pathway to ownership within a less limited perspective that enthusiasts just may find easier on their pocket-book too – that being the release of the background story of the impeccable craftsmanship within Rob Dickinson's "re"imagination of Porsche 911s and the launch of his book "One More Than 10: Singer and the Porsche 911" currently available at www.singervehicledesign.com on a pre-order basis, as well as through publishing house Stance & Speed at http://www.stanceandspeed.com/automotive-books/one-more-than-10-singer-and-the-porsche-911.

Porsche recalls new 911 models over exhaust pipe issues

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Porsche, though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, announced a voluntary recall on about 2,200 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models built during the 2012 and 2013 model years. On cars equipped with the standard exhaust system it was found that the tailpipes could separate from the mufflers and become dangerous road debris; models that added the optional sport exhaust system are not included in this recall.
Affected vehicles were built between March and November of last year, but there have been no reports of the problem on any customer-owned vehicles. Porsche first noticed a cracked tailpipe weld on a test vehicle back in May, and since then has found similar problems on other internally owned vehicles, all with more than 25,000 miles on the clock. To fix the problem, dealers will be replacing the mufflers. Scroll down to read the official notice.
