This 1957 Porsche Speedster was purchased from the original owner by Dr. Chuck Renn in 1968. After enjoying his Speedster as a street car for approximately 16 years, in 1983 Dr. Renn began the transformation of his Speedster to race trim. From 1985 to 1995 Dr. Renn campaigned his Speedster at numerous venues throughout California. He competed at Laguna Seca, Riverside Raceway, Willow Springs, Sears Point, Palm Springs Grand Prix and Stardust. His favorite venue was the Monterey Historics where he competed for 9 consecutive years (Includes Two Log Books). For medical reasons, Dr. Renn retired from racing at the end of the 1995 race season and passed away in 2002. Prior to entering road racing in 1985, D. Renn successfully competed in off road racing during the 1960’s. In 1968 he finished 4th place in the Baja 1000 Class 6 and 5th place in the Baja 1000 Class 6 the following year. Being a Dentist by profession, Dr. Renn decided it would be fitting to establish the Powered by Mouth Racing Team in 1967 prior to entering off-road racing. He continued to use the same livery on his 1957 Speedster throughout his road racing career. In 2003, after learning that the Renn estate was considering selling the Dr’s Speedster, Mark Boen approached the Renn family and acquired the Speedster. After Boen’s acquisition, he initiated an extensive mechanical renovation and upgrades to all the currently required safety systems. Although Mr. Boen has not yet engaged the Speedster in race competition, it is totally race ready. The Speedster had been registered for street use since 1957. It is still currently registered and occasionally driven for exercise purposes only. The Speedster has approximately 300 road miles since the recent renovation. In 2006, the Speedster was invited to and shown at the “Quail, A Motorsports Event” entered in the Post War Race Class to represent Fifty Years of Racing at Laguna Seca Raceway. In 2011 the Speedster was invited to be displayed at the very exclusive event “Porsche Race Car Classics”, Quail Lodge during the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV. Meticulously Maintained & Garage Kept. Several Original Parts To Be Included With Purchase. This Speedster will be well received and readily acceptable to compete in any vintage event throughout the country.

Porsche digitally dissects its 918 Spyder for your viewing pleasure
Wed, 02 Oct 2013At this point, you'd think we'd know all there is to know about the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder - except what it's like to drive - but Porsche has released a new video giving us a more in-depth look at its new plug-in hypercar all the same. The animated video gives us numerous cutaway looks at the 918 Spyder while giving a visual demonstration of the car's four hybrid driving modes.
Though nowhere near as exciting as watching the 918 blast around the Nürburgring in record time, this new video is nonetheless both interesting and informative. Scroll down to watch the video yourself, and be sure to check out our live gallery of the production version of the car along with a stock gallery.
All Porsche 911s to get turbos in 2015?
Sun, 19 Oct 2014Currently, Porsche builds two turbocharged 911s - the Turbo and the Turbo S (and their cabriolet counterparts). The rest of the 911 range, meanwhile, is motivated by either 3.4- or 3.8-liter flat-sixes of varying outputs. This clear separation could be set to change in the very near future, though, as rumors continue to swirl that Porsche's rear-engined range could switch exclusively to turbocharged power.
This time, it's Car projecting that the 911 range will go turbocharged as part of a mid-cycle refresh, with the base Carrera's 3.4-liter dropping to 2.9 liters and adding an iron lung, bumping the entry level 911 up to 400 horsepower. Yes, a 400-horsepower, entry level 911. The Carrera S, meanwhile, will retain its 3.8-liter engine, but will also benefit from turbocharging, increasing output to 530 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. So basically, it sounds like the current, 520-hp 911 Turbo will become the next Carrera S.
What does that mean for Porsche's traditional high-performance models? Well, it's a safe bet that the Turbo, Turbo S and eventual GT2 will be producing seriously huge power figures. Based on pure speculation, we wouldn't be shocked to see a 600-hp Turbo, with the S and GT2 increasing output markedly from there.
Jay Leno's Dodge Challenger raises $585k for USO in Scottsdale
Mon, Jan 19 2015Of all the metal moved in Scottsdale, AZ, this holiday weekend, the one you see here was hardly the most expensive. But it's noteworthy for another reason: despite being a relatively humble, second-hand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, raised an impressive $565,625. That's because, first of all, it belonged to Jay Leno, and secondly because the proceeds were going to the USO. Leno donated the modern muscle car from his collection to benefit our men and women in uniform, and was on hand to present the car on stage at the Gooding & Company auction, along with USO president J.D. Crouch II and former Army chief of staff General George W. Casey, Jr. After frenzied and patriotic bidding, the gavel ultimately dropped at $360,000, accompanied by over $200,000 in additional contributions, bringing the total amount donated to the USO to over half a million. Commendable though it was, of course the Challenger didn't garner the highest bids at the auction. A 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider sold for $7.7 million and a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS fetched $2.4 million. A rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Series I Coupe Aerodinamico sold for over $4,070,000 – which, according to Sports Car Market, is the most ever paid at auction for a 400 Superamerica. And a 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 also sold for a record $1.98 million.
