This is a 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 Aero Coupe. It is one of 1,118 special one model year only, aerocoupes built for Pontiac's homologation entry in NASCAR racing. Monte Carlo built a similar Aerocoupe for '86 and '87 (6000 made) but Pontiac is a one year model. Hemmings Muscle car magazine called it the "Superbird of the '80's."

Silver with deep red accents and gray cloth interior.

Options include: Y97 2+2 package, the vast majority of 2+2s were loaded with the following options: AU3 power door locks, AO1 tinted windows, A31 power windows, CD4 pulse wipers, C60 manual control air conditioning, D35 left-hand remote and right-hand manual-control outside rear view mirrors, FE2 ride and handling package, GU4 3.08 rear axle ratio, G80 limited slip rear axle, K34 electronic cruise control, NP5 leather-wrapped steering wheel, N33 tilt steering column, N83 15 x 7-inch Rally II wheels, UE8 digital electric clock, UK5 AM/FM stereo with cassette, U21 instrument cluster with gauges and tachometer, and VO8 heavy duty cooling system. It is powered by the 305 ci V8. with automatic transmission and 3.08 postraction rearend. This is a rare opportunity to buy a rare NASCAR inspired vehicle that is bound to go up in value as it is low production.

It's in very nice condition!! Painted about 6 years ago and still shows very well. No rock guard covering sins on the bottoms of the doors, quarters, or fenders. The interior is all original showing very little wear for the year of the car. No rips or tears in the seats and the headliner is also in good standing. The Grand Prix runs very nice with a nice rumble from the flow master style duel exhaust. Air blows ice cold and everything works as it should. The odometer, is showing 42,019 Miles. All stock under the hood - never butchered.

Wheel's are American Racing VN801 DAYTONA MAG GRAY CENTER MACHINED LIP 22x9 on Lexani tires 235/30/22.  I have the original wheels and tires. (in mint condition)

I did put a Viper alarm on it. All the bushing's in the front have been replaced. Along with all new shocks and a front end alignment.

Are orphan cars better deals?

Wed, Dec 30 2015

Most folks don't know a Saturn Aura from an Oldsmobile Aurora. Those of you who are immersed in the labyrinth of automobilia know that both cars were testaments to the mediocrity that was pre-bankruptcy General Motors, and that both brands are now long gone. But everybody else? Not so much. By the same token, there are some excellent cars and trucks that don't raise an eyebrow simply because they were sold under brands that are no longer being marketed. Orphan brands no longer get any marketing love, and because of that they can be alarmingly cheap. Case in point, take a look at how a 2010 Saturn Outlook compares with its siblings, the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. According to the Manheim Market Report, the Saturn will sell at a wholesale auto auction for around $3,500 less than the comparably equipped Buick or GMC. Part of the reason for this price gap is that most large independent dealerships, such as Carmax, make it a point to avoid buying cars with orphaned badges. Right now if you go to Carmax's site, you'll find that there are more models from Toyota's Scion sub-brand than Mercury, Saab, Pontiac, Hummer, and Saturn combined. This despite the fact that these brands collectively sold in the millions over the last ten years while Scion has rarely been able to realize a six-figure annual sales figure for most of its history. That is the brutal truth of today's car market. When the chips are down, used-car shoppers are nearly as conservative as their new-car-buying counterparts. Unfamiliarity breeds contempt. Contempt leads to fear. Fear leads to anger, and pretty soon you wind up with an older, beat-up Mazda MX-5 in your driveway instead of looking up a newer Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky. There are tons of other reasons why orphan cars have trouble selling in today's market. Worries about the cost of repair and the availability of parts hang over the industry's lost toys like a cloud of dust over Pigpen. Yet any common diagnostic repair database, such as Alldata, will have a complete framework for your car's repair and maintenance, and everyone from junkyards to auto parts stores to eBay and Amazon stock tens of thousands of parts. This makes some orphan cars mindblowingly awesome deals if you're willing to shop in the bargain bins of the used-car market. Consider a Suzuki Kizashi with a manual transmission. No, really.

This Auto Aerobics car art ties our brains in knots like pretzels

Sat, 14 Dec 2013

We like cars, and we like art. Naturally, Chris Labrooy's Auto Aerobics series - computer-generated images of some seriously contorted 1968 Pontiac Bonnevilles floating in mid-air - instantly clicked with us. If the Pontiacs weren't floating or hollow, we could be fooled into believing the image is real. But where's the fun in that?
Check out the gallery we included of Labrooy's Bonneville art, and feel free too head over to his website for some Formula One humor.

Junkyard Gem: 2010 Pontiac G6

Sat, Sep 12 2020

What makes a discarded car a gem? Sometimes it's a car we all agree is very cool, and other times it's a car that tells us something about automotive history. Today's Junkyard Gem is the latter type: one of the very last Pontiacs sold, before The General shut out the lights forever on the storied marque after 84 years. The G6 was Pontiac's Epsilon-platform-based car, sibling to the Chevy Malibu, Saturn Aura, and Saab 9-3 (plus a bunch of Europe-only machinery). The very last Pontiac ever built was a white 2010 G6 sedan like this one (all '10 G6s were sedans, the coupe and convertible having been nixed in 2009), though that car was built in January of 2010 and this one came off the line in July of 2009. They build Bolts at the Orion Assembly plant these days. The higher-zoot G6s came with V6s or even V8s, but this car has "fleet machine" written all over it and has the base 2.4-liter Ecotec four-banger making 164 horsepower. Pontiac shoppers in the United States could buy the Vibe as a 2010 model as well, while Mexican Pontiac dealerships also sold new G2s (known as the Spark here) that year. The G6 was The Final Pontiac, though, bookending a run that began with the 1926 Pontiac Six. This one will go to its grave with the original owner's manual still inside. Even the cheapest 2010 G6s came with an AUX jack for the radio, a feature that was still maddeningly hard to find in rental cars a decade ago. This content is hosted by a third party.
