1967 Pontiac Firebird 400
#’s match PHS documented 400/325 HP, TH400. 1st Production Year. Outstanding example. 1st Time Offered for public sale in over 30 years. California car. 76k original miles on the odometer are believed to be accurate. Factory options include power steering, power brakes, console, soft ray glass, safe-t-track 3.08 posi rear, deluxe interior. Vehicle History The original owner purchased new in 1967. He was from the Mid-West. He moved to California in 1969 and brought the car with him. He sold the car in 1983 to the second owner (also Californian) where it remained in his car collection for 30 years. Exterior A recent exterior restoration was completed. The exterior paint was shot in GM silver using high quality DuPont Chromabase paint. The body is very straight. The car sits on show quality powder coated rally II wheels with new center caps and lugs, mounted to Goodyear Eagle ST tires with excellent rubber. All exterior emblems were replaced, new front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, wheel trim, door handles, driver mirror, front and rear window molding, weather stripping. Stunning car with perfect stance and presence. Interior The dark turquoise deluxe interior was a very rare color option in 1967 and is an outstanding complement to the silver exterior. The original interior build tags were found under the seats. The interior was treated to brand new carpeting, top quality replacement deluxe door panels (Al Knoch), and a re-upholstered original dash pad. The front and rear seats were reupholstered several years back - they look great with very nice foam. There is a very small (quarter size) hole in the passenger rear side of the headliner, otherwise the rest of the headliner is in excellent condition. Undercarriage The chassis / undercarriage remains in its original stock form with no rust or chassis repair thanks to 45 years on the West coast. Finding an untouched undercarriage like this is pretty remarkable. The floor panels and frame rails are outstanding. The original trunk floor is rust free. It was treated to a light splatter paint coating and looks outstanding. The shock towers are perfect. Mechanical All gauges, lights, electrics, wipers, horn function properly. The original AM radio is still in the car and works perfect. The original 100% stock 400 engine
fires right up easily and runs incredibly strong with plenty of power. Original Quadrajet carburetor.
The TH400 transmission shifts are smooth. The car tracks straight and stops
well. Brand new custom dual exhaust set up with turbo mufflers
gives the car an authentic, performance sound.
Super reliable and tight. The original engine mounts were just replaced. The front transmission seal was also replaced. This is a beautiful and rare bird that will definitely win its share of car shows. Could easily be a Pontiac Nationals caliber Firebird with very minimal effort. The car is being sold as is and is also offered for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early at any time. If you’re looking for a first year authentic Firebird 400, I would not pass this one up. The car is available for inspection. Private Seller. Please contact me with any questions.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.
German prosecutors have recorded calls between VW bigwigs talking dieselgate
Thu, Mar 21 2019It's barely possible to believe how poorly Volkswagen continues to handle dieselgate. Depending on which day you catch the news, the German carmaker embodies the corporate venality of "Michael Clayton," the comic blundering of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading," and the every-man-for-himself vengeance of "Reservoir Dogs." Today is Tarantino day, with news that German prosecutors have recordings of phone calls between former Audi and Porsche development boss Wolfgang Hatz, ex-Volkswagen Group executive Matthias Muller, and current Porsche executives Oliver Blume and Michael Steiner. Hatz made the calls to the trio in November 2015, two months after Volkswagen admitted its diesel-particulate sins to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hatz was still employed at the time, and in his company car. Who recorded the calls? His wife. Hatz and his missus apparently saw the storm coming and started stacking defenses early. Hatz's wife, who can be heard encouraging Hatz during at least one call, sent the recordings to Hatz's attorney from her mobile phone. According to a Google translation of the German newspaper Handelsblatt's report, she included the note, "Here is a very long, but quite informative conversation on the current situation with useful formulations." The report in Handelsblatt said that in Germany it is generally "not allowed" to record a conversation and pass it on to a third party. We don't know how the authorities will handle this matter, since prosecutors found the recordings in e-mail attachments on Mrs. Hatz's mobile phone. Remember, when the diesel scandal broke, VW spent months saying that only a small number of low-level personnel were behind it, and all of the higher-ups had been blindsided. Ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn claimed to be "stunned that misconduct on such a scale was possible in the Volkswagen Group." Winterkorn successor Matthias Muller said, "according to current information, a few developers interfered in the engine management." Former VW USA honcho Michael Horn told a congressional committee that "a couple of software engineers" programmed the software for reasons no one could understand. In the recorded conversations, Hatz apparently called Muller to find out how VW planned to treat him.
Junkyard Gem: 2006 Pontiac Solstice
Wed, Sep 4 2019The debut of the Pontiac Solstice, back in 2005 for the 2006 model year, stirred up much excitement in the automotive world. Sales were brisk at first, and then they weren't so great… and then Pontiac itself went under The General's cost-cutting axe. One thing I have learned during my junkyard travels is that even sought-after sports cars eventually reach a point at which they start showing up in the big self-service junkyards. For example, the BMW Z3 began appearing in such yards about five years ago, along with the Audi TT. While the Honda S2000 still appears to be exempt from this process, today's Junkyard Gem shows that the time has now come for the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. The first Z3s and TTs I saw in the U-Wrench-type yards were crash victims, not worth fixing, and that's the case with this Solstice. In a few more years, I'll start seeing the occasional Solstice/Sky discarded due to general worn-outness. Someone grabbed all the undented front body parts and the transmission (these items, presumably, being valuable), but no junkyard shoppers have felt like pulling the non-turbo 2.0-liter Ecotec. The interior seems dirty, probably from exposure to the elements while sitting outdoors in this Colorado Springs wrecking yard, but not in bad shape otherwise. Perhaps the car's owner celebrated a return from Iraq with the purchase of a sporty new Pontiac, 13 years ago. These cars have an enthusiastic following, so I wasn't expecting to see a junked one so soon after production ceased. I felt the same way about the Chrysler Crossfire, however, and I found two of those last year. What's next, a 2002-2005 Thunderbird? This content is hosted by a third party.
