Up for auction is our 60 Pontiac Catalina 4-door sedan ALL ORIGINAL SURVIVOR.  1960 was a great year for Pontiac Motor Division, it was their first year for the full grill that was not split in the center.  It was also the beginning of the true "wide track" body.

The condition of this car is truly amazing.  The body is absolutely 100% rust free and straight as an arrow.  The paint is all original with the exception of the front of the hood, it looks like it was spot painted years ago and the match is very good.  Im guessing it was due to a scratch, as there was no body work. The rest of the original paint is all very nice and still has a shine.  All of the stainless, chrome plating and molding are original and perfect with no pits or scratches.  The rear bumper does have a very small dent down low that is hard to notice.  All of the glass is original and perfect.  Even the windshield is perfect with no chips or wiper blade scratches.

The interior is also all original and has never had any restoration work.  The door panels and dash look new.  The seats are also very nice with VERY light wear on the drivers side that is almost not noticeable.  The floor is the original rubber mat with carpet inserts sewn over the transmission and driveline tunnel.  The rubber mats have very little wear with a few small splits. NOS original mats are included with the car if you desire perfect floors.  The gauges all look new and all work perfect.  Even the "cold" light works.  The radio, wipers, horns, signal cancels, heater and lights work perfect.  The steering wheels is absolutely perfect with the transparent green clear portion not cracked or faded.  The headliner  and visors are also nice with no tears.

Under the hood is untouched and all original.  I had the starter, generator, carburator and wiper motor rebuilt.  Nothing under the hood has ever been spray painted or messed with.  The engine runs like a top.  Always starts perfect and sounds very nice with no valve or strange noises.  It idles smooth, has great power and does not smoke at all.  Transmission shifts like new and has clean fluid.  Brakes work perfect and dont pull at all.  The suspension is tight and smooth.  Going over rail road tracks are quiet with no squeaks or rattles.  It does have new BFG wide white wall tires with new shocks and a new exhaust system done to factory specs.  Sounds quiet like a new 60 Pontiac!

I have owned this car for several years and have really enjoyed owning it.  Everywhere I drive it I get thumbs up and everyone always thinks its restored.  I have driven it to several large shows and it's always the only car of it's type there.  I like being different and unique at car shows and not being one of many, 57 chevys! The survivor trend is getting big, its hard to find cars this original and this nice.  There are many "Survivor only" shows where these cars are getting lots of recognition.  This is a car that ready to enjoy that is very unique and affordable.  Ive been told "too bad its a four door", my response to that is; "This car is perfect as it is, because I can load up my friends and family and we can all go out to dinner, a show or a drive in the mountains together.  We have tons of trunk space for our stuff and it makes for a great time and thats what owning a classic car is all about!"  If you have questions please call 303 475-4544.  I have a clear Colorado title

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Pontiac Firebird

Mon, Dec 18 2023

Last spring, this series featured a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS in a Northern California junkyard, an example of the final model year for the highly successful third-generation GM F-Body. On a later visit to that yard, I spotted the Pontiac sibling to that car, a Firebird that was born the same year at the same Southern California factory. When the Chevrolet Division introduced the first Camaro as a 1967 model, the Pontiac Division got its own version of the F-Body called the Firebird. While the two cars were built on the same chassis and looked very similar, the first-generation Camaros got Chevrolet engines while their Firebird colleagues got Pontiac engines (including the innovative SOHC straight-six). The 1970-1981 second-generation Firebirds still had some Pontiac-only engines, but Chevrolet and Oldsmobile power crept under some hoods during that period. The third-generation Firebirds first appeared as 1982 models, and they drew from near-identical stockpiles of GM running gear (including the distinctly agricultural Iron Duke four-banger, which could be considered a Pontiac-derived engine). When the Camaro got the axe after 2002, the Firebird's neck was put on the same chopping block. When the Camaro returned for 2010, the Pontiac brand was sputtering to an agonized halt during its final year and there was no chance of the Firebird's return. This car is a fairly ordinary coupe, though it does have the mid-grade 205-horsepower 5.0-liter Chevrolet small-block V8 instead of the base 140-horse 3.1-liter V6. A 5.7-liter small-block was available as well. A five-speed manual transmission was base equipment, but few Americans wanted a three-pedal setup by the early 1990s. This car has the optional four-speed automatic. The MSRP with 5.0 engine, automatic transmission and air conditioning (which this car has) started at $14,304. That's about $31,868 in 2023 dollars. It was built at Van Nuys Assembly in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. By the dawn of the 1990s, the Camaros and Firebirds made at Van Nuys Assembly had become known as the worst-built GM cars made in North America, and the plant was shut down forever soon after this car was built. Today, a shopping mall lives where the factory once stood. This car managed to drive more than 150,000 miles during its life, so it beat the odds. The thrid-gen F-Body was pretty antiquated by the early 1990s, but the fourth-gen cars handled better and looked up-to-date for the era.

Rent the 1967 Pontiac GTO from the XxX films now on Turo

Tue, Jan 10 2017

The process of renting a car usually ranges from mildly annoying to "I'm calling corporate to get you fired." Plainly, it sucks, but sometimes you're left with no alternative. Turo, a peer-to-peer carsharing network, has created what's essentially the AirBnB for cars. Like AirBnB, the quality and variety of the rides varies based on location. If you're in Tucson, Ariz., in the next week, go check out this 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible before the release of XxX: The Return of Xander Cage. Promotions and marketing aside, this is still the opportunity to drive one of the original muscle cars. It's not clear if this is an original GTO or a Pontiac Tempest that was converted, but does it really matter? Old cars never drive as well as you hope, so, as long as it looks and sounds awesome, who cares? The owner listed on Turo is Xander C., Vin Diesel's character from the XxX franchise. This is the car that was used in the original 2002 film, and from the photos it appears to be in better shape than many other movie cars. The exterior is mostly stock, with some slight modifications to the lighting, wheels, exhaust, and trim, with the addition of a funky looking hood scoop that the listing claims shoots flames. It's not clear if it functions as an actual intake because there aren't any notes about what rests under the hood. The listing does ask for premium fuel, so more than likely it's some variation of a high-compression V8. Inside, the dashboard looks like someone raided the AutoZone accessory aisle. There are gauges, dials, toggle switches, and readouts galore. The listing also claims the Goat is packing a rocket launcher and a weapons stash under the seat. $999 per day isn't cheap, but it's less than you'd pay for a day with one of the rent-an-exotic shops you see in Los Angeles or New York. If you're not in Tucson or the price is a little too steep, Turo has what it's dubbed the Adrenaline Collection. The name may be hyperbole, but the lineup of cars is actually really solid. A quick glance reveals a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan, 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider, and a 1969 Jaguar E-Type. The car list keeps expanding, so if this proves popular, look for more cool stuff in the future.
