This is a true California car survivor. It was built in South Gate, CA and then sold brand new to it's original owner in June of 1963. I have the original sales contract documenting this. This car spent it whole life in southern California and was garage kept. I am the second owner and I have owned it for about 10 years also keeping it stored in the garage. The car  was completely original when I purchased it. It had 96,000 original miles then. I have done some minor upgrades over the years and I have all of the original parts that were removed or swapped out.

The overall condition of the car is good. The paint is original as far as I can tell, but it is not without some flaws, minor chips and scratches and door dings. There is no signs of rust or any cancer. The interior is in great shape, New carpet, headliner and front seat. The back seat and door panels are still original. I also replaced the armrests. The dash is original and has one crack in it. I also installed an aftermarket radio/CD player with two rear 6x9 speakers and amplifier. Radio is hidden in glove box and has a remote control. The dash was left undisturbed. I have also added some auto meter gauges for water temp oil pressure and voltage under dash as well as a mooneyes tachometer.

The transmission is a Super Hydramatic and was completely rebuilt. The engine upgrades include all belts and hoses, water pump, timing chain, edelbrock intake manifold and edelbrock carb with electric choke. Dual exhaust with turbo mufflers and bellflower chrome pipes. I had the original distributer rebuilt and converted to electronic ignition. Spark plugs were just changed as well. Starter and alternator were also rebuilt. Basically every upgrade performed was to make the car a better daily driver. I still have the original parts that were removed and will be included in the sale. The brakes have also been gone through as well. The suspension and front end are still original except for minor lowering and bilstein shocks. I would say the front end may need some attention in the near future and it does slightly pull to the right. The tires are also new as well. The wheels are a Astro Supreme copy made by US Mag. They are 14" like the originals. I have the stock wheels and tires also and will be included too. This is a 5 Lug wheel pattern car which is more desirable for customizing instead of the 8-lug version. The car has factor Air conditioning, but does not work, I have replaced most of the parts to convert it over to 134a but did not finish it. Since it is a no door post car it is more fun to cruise it with all the windows down.

My plan with this car was to make it a mild 60"s style custom. The roof line is the same as the Chevy Impala which adds to it's overall good looks in my opinion. This is a " Widetrack" chassis pontiac, which was designed for better stability and handling. The car drives really well. I used to live in southern California and I drive it up here to the bay area (400 miles) without any issues. since I have owned the car, I have put about 17K. miles on it in a ten year period.

The reason I am selling is I do not drive it as much anymore. My commute to work is only 3 miles and it takes longer to warm hit up in the morning and get it out of the garage than actually driving it to work. I have tried to document everything with pictures. Feel free to contact me for any more info.
I have all the documentation for all of the work done and all the original parts to go with it.

Thanks for looking!

World's only 1964 Pontiac XP-833 Banshee coupe for sale by Kia dealer

Mon, Apr 20 2020

It seems like there has been a spate of especially odd car sales in the first part of this especially odd year, from the numerous barn finds and homebrew specials to the time capsule cars — like the BMW wrapped in a protective bubble for 23 years. Napoli Kia in Milford, Connecticut, brings us another, via Motor1. Len Napoli is the dealership principal and die-hard Pontiac maven; his father opened Napoli Pontiac in 1958, and Len held onto the franchise until the early 2000s, just before GM shuttered the brand that built excitement. Napoli got hold of the 1964 Pontiac Banshee XP-833 coupe concept, and put the car up for sale through his Kia dealership for $750,000. The exceptional price comes from the fact that Pontiac built two Banshee concepts in 1964, one this silver coupe with a red interior, the other a white roadster, making each concept a one-of-one collector car.      Motor Trend wrote a detailed piece on this one in 2013, the editorial tour hosted by Bill Collins, the Banshee's lead engineer. The short story is that GM exec John Z. DeLorean — yes, him —  gave approval to a small crew at Pontiac to create a two-seater sports car to compete with the Mustang, because GM had nothing to fend off the four-seat coupe that would sell one million units in just 18 months on the market. Collins and his team took inspiration from the 1963 Corvair Monza GT concept, working up a fiberglass body over a steel frame, with a 230-cubic-inch overhead-cam straight-six producing 165 horsepower and 216 pound-feet of torque, a four-speed manual transmission, and 9.5-inch drum brakes at all corners. The idea was that the XP-833 would be "an affordable and fun two-seat sports car," the concept demonstrating the base-model price leader offering a lengthy list of options for those who wanted more. The white roadster, in fact, fitted a 326 cubic-inch V8 under the hood. Rumor says that Chevrolet execs didn't like having another two-seater sports car in the GM fold, especially one with a fiberglass body that held weight down to 2,200 pounds. GM execs took one look at the two concepts in 1965 and shut the project down. The two XP-833s lived in a garage for years, Collins and his colleague Bill Killen getting permission to buy the cars from GM in 1973 before Collins left to help engineer the DeLorean DMC-12. It wasn't until just before Collins departed that the XP-333 got the name Banshee.

Want to buy a worst-in-show-winning Faux Ferrari Fiero?

Mon, Aug 31 2020

UPDATE: This heap sold for $5,001. But don't fret, there are more terrible cars out there for the taking if that's your thing. Today we bring you something truly terrible. It's not just a fake Ferrari built on the guts of an old Pontiac Fiero, it's actually the world's worst fake Ferrari built on the guts of an old Pontiac Fiero. And it's got the award from the Concours d'Lemons to prove it. It's so heinous, in fact, that it has somehow managed to become desirable, at least judging by the bidding history of this bright red affront to Maranello. Powered by a 140-horsepower 2.8-liter V6 engine (covered by an unconvincing and broken fake V12 cover) hooked to an automatic gearbox, this gloriously poor Prancing Horse won't be winning many stoplight drag races. There are bundles of stray wires hanging down from the dashboard, it has high mileage, most of its lights don't work, and it's ugly. Like, really ugly. And to top it off, this Fauxrarri can't currently be registered in its home state of California because it has failed its most recent smog test. Put simply, you're looking at a total piece of junk. But a piece of junk with internet notoriety, having been featured on an episode of Jay Leno's Garage after attending the 2019 Quail Motorsports Gathering — by mistake at first, and then earning a special place next to the porta potties — being the focus of a video series on YouTube and winning the aforementioned ribbon for Worst in Show at Lemons. Somehow, bidding has topped $4,000 at the time of this writing. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
