In April of 2008 Scott Cook, original owner of INTENSE-Racing.com, sold his 2004 Pontiac Bonneville GXP and purchased a brand new 2008 Pontiac G8 GT. A lot of hype had been leading up to the release of Pontiac’s latest RWD powerhouse vehicle and that alone was enough for Scott to purchase the vehicle without ever having seen one in person. The decision was made, the vehicle purchased, and the first modifications began development in the span of about three days. Even though Scott’s goal with his G8 GT was not to make it a 1/4 mile drag car but rather a pure street speed machine it did hold the records for quickest and fastest turbo'd Pontiac G8 GT on the planet for more than two years. Intercooled twin turbos along with a host of other modifications help the 6.0L V8 produce nearly 900 horsepower and a ten second mile time. Pedder’s suspension upgrades and custom CCW rims sporting 305 tires on the rear help keep this insanely fast supercar under control even under spirited driving. With 0-60mph times in three seconds, a top speed over 200mph and handling to match this awesome street car is to be respected and feared. This G8 GT looks just as good as it runs. Scott’s OCD nature makes sure that this G8 is kept in mint and immaculate condition inside and out. All of the custom gauge work was designed to blend seamlessly with the interior and even the included Valentine One and GPS system have been hardwired in to keep a clean appearance. The custom fuel system needed to keep up with power demand has been artfully and thoughtfully installed in the trunk, out of sight. This unique Pontiac G8 was featured in the August 2012 issue of GM High-Tech Performance magazine. The article can be read here: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/features/ghtp_1208_2008_pontiac_g8_gt_letting_go/viewall.html I personally bought this car from Scott Cook himself. ITS ONE OF A KIND. Amazingly fast. A real head turner! Check out its complete list of modifications and performance parts.... EXTERIOR The Grand Am was the best-selling Pontiac model in the United States for every year of the 1990s, and it outsold most of its N-Body platform-mates (including the Chevrolet Corsica/Beretta) during nearly all of that decade. A sporty-looking compact with two or four doors, the Grand Am offered true 1990s radness—and, in some cases, respectable performance — at a good price. Today's Junkyard Gem is a nicely preserved example of the facelifted 1996 Grand Am, found in a Denver-area car graveyard. This is an SE Coupe with base engine and transmission, the most affordable Grand Am available in 1996. List price was $13,499, or about $26,523 in 2023 dollars. The factory-issued Monroney sheet for this car was still inside, so we can see that the original buyer got the car at Bob Ruwart Motors in Wheatland, Wyoming (about 175 miles up I-25 from this Pontiac's final parking spot), and paid a total of $16,054 ($31,543 in today's money) after the cost of options and the destination charge. The '96 Grand AM SE buyer had to pay extra for cruise control, air conditioning, power windows, rear glass defogger and other features we now take for granted on new cars. The base engine was the 2.4-liter Twin Cam four cylinder, a member of the screaming Oldsmobile Quad 4 family. This one was rated at 150 horsepower and 155 pound-feet. A 3.1-liter V6 with 155 horses and 185 pound-feet was an option. If you got the V6 in your '96 Grand Am, however, you couldn't get a manual transmission. This car has a proper five-speed manual, which made for fun driving with the high-revving Twin Cam engine in a machine weighing just 2,802 pounds (which is quite a bit less than what the current Honda Civic weighs). It traveled just over 160,000 miles during its 27 years on the road. The body and interior were still in fairly good condition when the car arrived here, so we can assume that some expensive mechanical problem doomed this car. Perhaps the original clutch wore out and the owner didn't consider it worth replacing. After all, a mid-1990s Detroit two-door with a transmission most people can't drive isn't worth much these days. Though nobody knew it when this car was new, the Grand Am would be gone in nine years and Pontiac itself would get the axe five years after that. It makes the ordinary extraordinary. Husbands and wives would argue for 12 hours over who got to drive the Grand Am, if we are to believe this ad. Proud sponsor of the 1996 Olympic team. Fans of Smokey and the Bandit, your car has arrived. This Saturday, January 21, Barrett-Jackson will auction a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am clone that, while not originally in the movie, was owned and signed by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds. Not only that, but it packs many modifications that should make this Pontiac drive the way we all imagined it did. This is a Trans Am clone, not an original. The car was built by Nebraska company Restore A Muscle Car, and started life as a lowly Firebird Formula. However, the company brought it up to Trans Am grade and beyond. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 8.2-liter V8 from Butler Performance that Restore A Muscle Car says produces 600 horsepower. Coupled to the big V8 is a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. There's even Hurst line-lock on-board, so this Trans Am should be perfect for on-demand burnouts. The car also comes with QA1 coil-over suspension, so it should corner better than the original, too. The outside looks roughly like a stock Trans Am, but it now has 18-inch wheels styled after those from the movie car, and the shaker scoop says "8.2" on each side. View 5 Photos In 2014, a 1977 Trans Am owned by Reynolds sold for a whopping $450,000. That car wasn't an actual movie car either, and lacked the modifications of this one. However, it was used as a promotional car and was given to Reynolds, so it did have some history with the film. This upgraded car is listed in the Barrett-Jackson catalog as "no reserve," so it's going home with a new owner on Saturday, regardless of price. GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable
Fri, 21 Sep 2012
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.
