SELLER REMARKS |
![]() |
Restored cars like this 1967 Firebird 400 convertible are probably the best way to enjoy a vintage muscle car. It's got a great pedigree with a matching-numbers engine, but someone else has already done the heavy lifting: great paint, nice interior, and a full PHS package. If you like the look on this one, you'll love how it drives.
There's no sneaking around in a Firebird convertible painted bright, which looks pretty close to code R Regimental Red, a correct 1967 color. It's really nicely done, too, on a body that has been restored but not modified, so that means no deck lid spoiler or other add-ons, just a clean F-body that looks like a million bucks. Of course, with good looks like this, you don't really need to do more than make sure the gaps are tight, the panels are straight enough to measure with a ruler, and use some care putting it all together so the doors close with a gentle push instead of a violent slam. Correct hood scoops and a hood-mounted tach give it plenty of personality, and with the top down, there's nothing that can out-shine this car out on the road. The cool chrome bumper that also forms the grille looks like it's been to the plater's shop not too long ago and only the discreet '400' emblem on the trunk warns onlookers of what's underneath, making even this bright red ragtop a bit of a sleeper.
The black bucket seat interior is neatly done and pretty much conforms to the factory specifications. A 3-spoke steering wheel frames the deeply recessed gauges, but since they only cover the barest of minimums (speed and fuel level), a trio of auxiliary gauges was wisely installed just ahead of the shifter. A center console is a welcome upgrade, and as was Pontiac's fancy, it offers a bit of an upscale vibe with the woodgrained center stack, and while the original radio still lives in the dash, a powerful Secret Audio AM/FM stereo has been stashed in the glove box with a CD changer in the trunk. And speaking of the trunk, it's nicely outfitted with a correct mat, space-saver spare tire, and a complete jack assembly. Overhead, there's a new black power convertible top that moves effortlessly and hides under a matching black vinyl boot.
The engine is the original, numbers-matching 400 cubic inch V8, which was the biggest engine available in an F-body at the time. With legendary Pontiac torque and durability, it makes the compact Firebird a legitimate threat on the street. Rebuilt to stock specifications, it is neatly detailed with Pontiac Turquoise paint, chrome valve covers and a louvered air cleaner just like its big brother the GTO. They took no liberties with specifications here, and instead decided to keep it mostly stock. A 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission is up to the abuse and feeds a 10-bolt rear end with a set of reasonable gears inside that cruise easily. Dual exhaust with mellow-sounding mufflers gives it a sound to match its flashy appearance, and shiny Cragar wheels with fat 225/60/15 front and 235/60/15 rear BFG radials add to the eye appeal.
Documented with PHS paperwork, this is the kind of car you can buy with confidence and enjoy without worries, because it'll always be worth at least as much as you paid for it. Call today!

A problem with the power steering system in the Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 has prompted General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for an estimated 69,633 vehicles. The issue revolves around the electric power steering assist, which could suddenly fail and increase the risk of a crash, especially at low speeds where the power steering is most helpful. The recall affects 2006-2007 Chevy Malibu sedans and Malibu Maxx wagons (specifically those manufactured between April 1, 2006, and June 30, 2006), as well as the Pontiac G6 (which was offered as a sedan, coupe or convertible) from the same model years and manufactured from April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. Owners of the affected units can expect to hear from the manufacturer with instructions to bring in their vehicles to their local dealers to have the torque sensors in the power steering system replaced. RECALL Subject : Sudden Loss of Electric Power Steering , 1 INVESTIGATION(S) Report Receipt Date: FEB 04, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V064000 Component(s): STEERING Potential Number of Units Affected: 69,633 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving. CONSEQUENCE: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

UPDATE: This 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am KITT replica officially sold for $32,500. Here's hoping the new owner has a blast throwin' it into Pursuit Mode. Let's get one thing straight right off the bat: This isn't a perfect KITT replica. The original KITT used in the Knight Rider TV series was based on a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The one you see above, which is currently for sale at auction site Bring A Trailer, is a 1987 model, and since it's a GTA edition, it has some extra body cladding that the smooth-sided television car lacked. That aside, most casual observers would probably never notice the difference, and even those who did (like us) are still likely to be impressed by the car's transformation. This KITT replica is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. It ought to be fairly quick, though quite a bit shy of the fictional car's very fictional 300-mph top speed. We're not exactly Knight Rider experts, but some quick Google sleuthing suggests that the Knight Industries Two Thousand supposedly cost more than $11,000,000 to build in Hollywoodland. This one will surely command a significantly lower sum — as of this writing, it's been bid up to $18,000 with four days remaining on the auction. This content is hosted by a third party. There are several videos of the car that detail its modifications inside and out, but suffice it to say it seems to be a well-sorted replica. Here's hoping its new owner keeps it well clear of other KARRs. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

The latest machine to show up on Jay Leno's Garage is arguably the most iconic Pontiac GTO, the 1970 Judge. The example here is a radically red model and features all of the nifty Judge features, such as the mega-size rear wing, hood-mounted tachometer, and ram air hood scoop. The latter of which had a panel in the hood that would open up at full throttle to let in all that cool air from outside. The car is owned by the Wade Kawasaki, president of Coker Tires, a company that specializes in reproducing classic tires. Not surprisingly, his GTO features a set of the company's Firestone Wide Oval tires. That particular tire would have come with the car originally, but these new versions are built like modern radial tires, rather than the slippery bias-ply originals. The tires are indicative of how Kawasaki restored the rest of his Judge. Everything has been taken back to factory-spec. It has a stock, 400-cubic inch V8 that makes a supposedly underrated 366 horsepower, and it's complete with the chrome valve covers and foam intake seal. The tires are accompanied by exact replica GTO Judge wheels. The car even has the true, original interior. Somehow, the upholstery, dash, and other interior components survived in excellent condition. Check out the video above for more details on this flashy muscle car, as well as some reminiscing about the "good ol' days," and some history on the origins of the car's name. Related Video:
