Hello. You are bidding on a 1973 Formula Firebird with 400 engine, 4bbl carb, TH400 transmission and cold factory a/c. It is a true numbers matching Formula 400 survivor with 81,000 original miles. This car spent its entire life in the little California town of Portola. It has always been adult owned, driven, and maintained. I am the third owner. Condition is as follows : Engine/Drivetrain: Runs and drives great, engine does not smoke. This is a dependable, well maintained driver with no leaks. Everything works on this car, no major mechanical issues at all. Front tires are like new, rear tread is getting low so they will need replaced at some point, but that's the only thing I can think of that this car needs mechanically. I do, however, still have the original Pontiac wheels that came with the car. Tires on the stock wheels have decent tread but are old. Will ship with wheels and tires shown or the stockers, whichever you choose. Interior: Interior as you can see is in nice driver condition showing normal wear for its age. Steering column is tight. Everything works, blinkers, lights, etc. I would give the interior a solid 8 on a scale of 1-10. Body: This car has ZERO rust issues and still has all GM sheet metal that it came with from the factory. Has been repainted once over original green and has no body filler or damage repair hiding under the paint. What you see is what you get in the pictures. Paint is driver quality with chips, scratches, and parking lot dings, but as you can see is still very presentable as is. Doors, trunk and hood open and shut good. Trunk floor was just stripped down and recoated by a reputable local body shop so that the potential buyer can see just how solid it actually is. Yes, I do have the original jack and spare for this car as well. Body is excellent on this car. Overall: This is an extremely solid California driver with original sheetmetal that can be driven and enjoyed as is. Plus it`s a true Formula 400 car with all original drivetrain, not a clone This car is for sale locally as well as on Ebay so I reserve the right to end my auction at anytime before the scheduled end of auction. Potential Buyers: I have described this car honestly and to the best of my knowledge, but please, if you need additional pictures, or have any specific questions, please ask BEFORE bidding as this sale is final with no warranty. Please understand, this is a 40+year old car, so expect normal wear and tear based on mileage and my decription. Serious buyers can feel free to call me with any questions (530) 307-8973. If I don`t answer, please LEAVE A MESSAGE and I WILL call you back!! Lowball offers will not receive a response, I am not out of work, losing my house, etc. I also reserve the right to end auction at any time for local sale. Yes, this car is available in person for inspection at any time before the end of auction as I have nothing to hide. > >SERIOUS BIDDERS WITH 15 OR LESS FEEDBACK WILL CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING AS I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID OTHERWISE. NOTHING PERSONAL, BUT I HAVE DEALT WITH TOO MANY NON-PAYING BIDDERS IN THE PAST AND IT WILL NOT HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN. THANKS. Out of country buyers: I have sold cars out of country in the past, have references, and am familiar with the shipping process. I prefer West Coast Shipping but will help arrange safe transport to a shipping port of your choice. Thank you Larry

Gordon Murray, F1-driven production and .. the Pontiac Fiero
Tue, Oct 31 2017Gordon Murray's design and engineering chops are unquestionable. But does his carmaking approach owe something to the short-lived Pontiac Fiero, a scrappy little car program that emerged from GM against serious resistance? Murray had a Formula One career that ran from 1969 to 1991, with stints at Brabham ('69 to '86) and McLaren ('87-'91), that resulted in several shelves' worth of trophies for the cars he was instrumental in designing. He moved on to McLaren Cars, the consumer side of things, where, during his tenure from 1991 to 2004, he helped design the McLaren F1 and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, two cars that took learnings from his two decades in Formula One. What do all of these cars have in common? Three things: They are light. They were built in limited numbers. And they were (and are) exceedingly expensive—when the McLaren F1 debuted in 1994, it stickered at $815,000. Murray went on to establish Gordon Murray Design in 2007. GMD has created some interesting concept vehicles, such as the diminutive T.25 city car (94.5 inches long, 51.1 inches wide and 55.1 inches high), and the OX, a lightweight truck for the developing world that packs like an IKEA shelf and is working toward realization through a worthy crowdfunding campaign established by the Global Vehicle Trust. Now he has created a vehicle manufacturing company, Gordon Murray Automotive, that will use manufacturing methods that he developed under the moniker "iStream." Unlike a unibody, there are the "iFrame," a cage-like construction made with metallic components, and the "iPanels," which are composite. The panels aren't simply a decorative skin; they actually provide structure to the vehicle. Presumably this has something of the F1 monocoque about it. Going back to the three elements, (1) this arrangement results in a vehicle that can be comparatively light; (2) Murray has indicated that his manufacturing company will be doing limited-run production; and (3) to launch Gordon Murray Automotive they are going to be building a flagship model, about which Murray said, "With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon." Which seems to imply that it will be on the pricey side. According to the company's verbiage, "iStream forges an entirely new production method that defies conventionality with its Formula One-derived construction and materials technologies." It also sounds a whole lot like ...
This Hoonigan mechanic's twin-turbo Trans Am is wonderful
Thu, Mar 24 2016What do you drive when you work on rally machines for a living? Probably a Subaru WRX, and that's what Gregg Hamilton had for a while until working on his car felt too much like his day job. So when he moved from New Zealand to the US to work for Ken Block (with a few stops along the way) he bought something entirely different. This is Gregg's 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It's a throwback to another time, but it's anything but stock. It has that magic combination of a big V8 with a manual transmission and rear drive, just like the tin-top racers Gregg watched in his Kiwi youth. He bought it sight unseen from its previous owner in Alabama, and has been tinkering with it ever since. There's something about the flared wheel arches and the classic Firebird gold-striped black livery that has us smitten. Scope out the six-minute clip above from Petrolicious and see if you don't fall for Gregg's Pontiac as well.
CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero
Fri, 26 Oct 2012At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
