The current owner has had this beautiful Pontiac since 2006.  The car has been carefully maintained and repairs were made to the brakes and suspension bushings.

This Pontiac had a professional quality restoration starting from a complete and rust-free California car, shown on a posterboard in the pictures. Removing the paint to bare metal revealed that the car was originally built with the striking red over black two-tone that it carries today.

The car has outstanding paint and body work.  Although the paint is 10 years old, the paint and panel fit is still nearly show quality today.  The interior was replaced with new Star Chief patterned vinyl seats, carpet, headliner, and door panels.  Most of the chrome on this car is flawless.

Mechanically, the car is mostly original.  The 287 CI engine has the optional 4bbl Carter carburetor option. The generator was been replaced with an aftermarket alternator.  The car has its original HydraMatic transmission.  It sometimes races between shifts or shifts abruptly, probably a consequence of the limited amount this car is driven.  The engine is strong, quiet, and does not smoke.  Brakes and suspension components have been gone through and work very well.  Tires are new Diamondback WWW radials.

This Pontiac is loaded with original features.  It has a radio, heater, bumper overiders, and the iconic lighted Indian head hood mascot.

All this car needs to be a top level show car would be engine compartment and undercarriage detailing.  But it is a very impressive and enjoyable car just as it is.  It needs nothing to provide a collector a fine and unusual car that will be very welcome at any collector car event or gathering.

I am placing this listing for a friend. If you have any questions, please contact me and I will try to get them answered promptly. The car is located in Albuquerque, NM, just a few miles from the airport.  You or a delegate are welcome to inspect this car personally, just let me know and we will work out the details.

Your bid is a contract, please do not bid unless you are willing to complete this transaction.  We believe the reserve is reasonable but do not plan to reveal it.  We reserve the right to end the auction early for local sale, but we expect to keep the auction going for the full term.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.
