1953 Pontiac Chieftain Base 4.4l on 2040-cars
Blackfoot, Idaho, United States
1953 Pontiac Chieftain Survivor/All original/Always garaged 2 door coupe, Hard top, Straight 8 268 cu. in., 118 hp Duel range Hydra-matic transmission Automatic 4-speed Factory AM radio 54,539 original miles VIN: K8X1H13508 Two-owner car, with all miles put on by the original owner This Pontiac Chieftain 2-door custom Catalena hardtop is equipped with a flat-head, straight-8 engine with a Dual-Range, Hydra-matic transmission. The exterior has the original two-toned green paint. The Indian Head hood ornament is all chrome. The interior is in exceptionally good condition; the original seat covers and door panels show amazingly little wear and headliner is perfect. This is a great example of a 1953 Pontiac. The car has a new fuel pump, a new water pump, and new tires. The carburetor, valves, and brake system have been overhauled. The tires are whitewalls but not wide whitewalls. Otherwise, the car is completely original. This car should drive with gas in the tank and a new battery; however minor tweaks may be needed. The exterior paint is chipping in some places, most noticeably between the fins and the body. The front of the hood is pitted, and the front chrome bumper has some scratches, gouges, and marks. The leather key fob is original; it has the dealer’s logo and address on it (which matches the logo on the car) and it has an embossed picture of a Pontiac Chieftain on the other side. The two keys are original. Included with the sale are four more blank keys for the car which have not been cut. The Owner’s Guide, which measures 5-1/2” by 8-1/2” and is 63 pages long, is the original manual that came with the car. This car has always been garaged; my uncle was the first owner and he gave it to me. I am selling the car because I am moving out of the state and I will no longer have the space to garage it. Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?
Wed, 07 Oct 2009 DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT
Fri, 10 Oct 2014The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.
eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile
Sun, 29 Apr 2012Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.
