Up for auction is my project SSE. I bought this car from out of state with the intention of restoring it since it was in relatively good condition. However, when I went to go get it, there were MANY things that were not stated that were wrong with the car. I'll get into that in the Known Issues section.

The Good:

Car runs really strong for the miles. Those of you who know of the bullet-proof 3.8L, this is a perfect example of this. No hesitations at all to take this cross country.
Trans shifts really good. Had all fluids changed and shifts well and strong.
Paint does not have any fading however it is dull on the rear decklid. I havent tried to buff out this section yet but the rest of the car looks/shines very well.
This is an East coast car so there is minor rust accumulating on the interior engine bay area. and surface rust on certain parts of the undercarriage. After inspecting, nothing abnormally wrong or I would state it.
There is a dent the size or a basketball on the fender on the front drivers fender and rear fender as well. Easy pop out if you have time.
All electrical works: windows, locks, sunroof, seats, articulating seats, cruise, steering wheel controls, radio, dash components, computer display and compass.
Interior shows REALLY nice!!!! I detailed the hell out of it as it was poorly neglected. I took out all the seats and shampooed and did a few other things. Very little staining anywhere actually. Looks really good. Leather is about an 8/10 all around except drivers lower portion. I have a seat on order but been waiting over a month so I amm not waiting anymore. If I get the seat, it of course will come with the car and the interior seating will be perfect.
Headliner is in tact and not sagging anywhere. Sunroof visor is missing the lining and will need to be replaced but barely noticeable when the shade it retracted. Sunroof works perfectly. There is a sign of previous leakage and there is a spot on the seal (rim of the glass) that will need replacing or a touch up of some sealant.
Dash isn't buckling/warping anywhere and is perfect.
Trunk as a air compressor feature with the hose and all works perfect. this literally can inflate any tire from the trunk! Really cool feature.
Tires are all miss-matched but all have over 50% tread left in each.

Known Issues:

So, after I got the car, this is what I found...
Front shocks are gone and passenger front is making a noise on bumps. Looks like the strut is loose at the tower brace.
Rear shocks and air suspension works just fine and holds air as it should.
Brakes are warped - nuff said.
Engine - there is a loud whining noise from either the power steering or A/C compressor pulley. This is NOT tranny. I had it inspected and it's from the pulley area.
A/C does not work. Compressor engages and the clutch works but I havent tried to recharge it and see if it holds.
Power windows are slow in the front...typical for this age.
Pass front window I repaired to get it back on track and there was previous work that was shotty work inside so I fixed it as best I could. Rolls up and down as it should
I degreased the engine and looks like the trans pan gasket and oil pan gaskets will eventually need replacing. There is slow seepage there.

I think that's about it. Overall not a bad ride or a commuter car for the money I guess. Restore if you love these cars in this body style or nickle it to use as a runner...all I know is that it's 1 of 4 cars that I have and I need to liquidate.

Let me know if you have questions.

Obviously no warranties are implied and I stated everything that I know to be good and bad with the car. If you need answers, ask. No low balling. I am not desperate to sell.

This Hoonigan mechanic's twin-turbo Trans Am is wonderful

Thu, Mar 24 2016

What do you drive when you work on rally machines for a living? Probably a Subaru WRX, and that's what Gregg Hamilton had for a while until working on his car felt too much like his day job. So when he moved from New Zealand to the US to work for Ken Block (with a few stops along the way) he bought something entirely different. This is Gregg's 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It's a throwback to another time, but it's anything but stock. It has that magic combination of a big V8 with a manual transmission and rear drive, just like the tin-top racers Gregg watched in his Kiwi youth. He bought it sight unseen from its previous owner in Alabama, and has been tinkering with it ever since. There's something about the flared wheel arches and the classic Firebird gold-striped black livery that has us smitten. Scope out the six-minute clip above from Petrolicious and see if you don't fall for Gregg's Pontiac as well.

Another Burt Reynolds Trans Am is up for auction

Wed, Jan 18 2017

Fans of Smokey and the Bandit, your car has arrived. This Saturday, January 21, Barrett-Jackson will auction a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am clone that, while not originally in the movie, was owned and signed by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds. Not only that, but it packs many modifications that should make this Pontiac drive the way we all imagined it did. This is a Trans Am clone, not an original. The car was built by Nebraska company Restore A Muscle Car, and started life as a lowly Firebird Formula. However, the company brought it up to Trans Am grade and beyond. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 8.2-liter V8 from Butler Performance that Restore A Muscle Car says produces 600 horsepower. Coupled to the big V8 is a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. There's even Hurst line-lock on-board, so this Trans Am should be perfect for on-demand burnouts. The car also comes with QA1 coil-over suspension, so it should corner better than the original, too. The outside looks roughly like a stock Trans Am, but it now has 18-inch wheels styled after those from the movie car, and the shaker scoop says "8.2" on each side. View 5 Photos In 2014, a 1977 Trans Am owned by Reynolds sold for a whopping $450,000. That car wasn't an actual movie car either, and lacked the modifications of this one. However, it was used as a promotional car and was given to Reynolds, so it did have some history with the film. This upgraded car is listed in the Barrett-Jackson catalog as "no reserve," so it's going home with a new owner on Saturday, regardless of price. Related Video:

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.
