1986 Nissan 300zx 2x2 Coupe 2-door 3.0l on 2040-cars

I have a 1986 Nissan 300zx for sale. 5 speed manual transmission. It is *not* turbo. It has T-tops. It is 2x2 (has the small back seat).
It runs and drives well, but needs some love. Work it needs: Front strut mounts need replaced (struts on all 4 wheels are new). It misses on a cylinder intermittently, haven't been able to track it down (Plugs and wires are new-ish). Brakes squeak to high heaven (new rotors and shoes, but the squeak is back). Tends to pop out of 5th gear when coasting. Some interesting electrical glitches and associated ghetto fixes by the previous owner. Coolant leak (haven't been able to track down the source, too cramped under the hood. Pumped it full of StopLeak and it seems to do well for now). Needs interior and exterior cosmetics - needs some upholstery etc. fixed up and a paint job. This was my daily commuter, inherited from my dad as his daily commuter, for a couple years. When I replaced the struts and found my mounts were also bad (*after* getting them all assembled and installed) and then couldn't track down the coolant leak, I just decided it was time for a new car. Couldn't get enough trade-in out of it, so it's up for sale. I'd recommend replacing the strut mounts early on, but after that just keep an eye on the coolant and it'll be great to drive. This would make a great project car for someone who enjoys working on cars more than I do. It'd be an excellent candidate for restoration. Depending on your parenting style, it'd also make a great "first car". I'd like to get $2,000 out of it, but I need to get it moved and I don't have time to be picky, so make me an offer I can't refuse. |

Toyota, Honda, Nissan and more collaborating to increase fuel efficiency
Sun, 25 May 2014Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Daihatsu have announced an alliance that will see a push to improve fuel economy from both gas-powered and diesel-powered engines by as much as 30 percent before the end of the decade.
The newly assembled Research Association of Automotive Internal Combustion Engines put the roughly $20-million project together, with the Japanese government committing to half the cost while the eight manufacturers will chip in the rest.
According to Automotive News, the automakers will team up and share basic research on internal-combustion engines in a bid to cut costs. Eventually, the results of the research will find its way into a production vehicle, although it's unclear just when we'll see the fruits of this partnership on the road.
Mystery shoppers love Infiniti, hate Tesla
Tue, Jul 12 2016Infiniti, followed by Lexus tied with Mercedes-Benz took the top two spots for best sales experience according to mystery shoppers from the latest Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index, while EV manufacturer Tesla recorded the lowest overall score. Not surprisingly, premium brands dominated the top ranks. Including the three already mentioned, luxury brands occupied seven of the top ten spots and included Audi, BMW, Porsche, and the only American brand to crack the upper echelon, Cadillac. Toyota, Volkswagen, and Nissan rounded out the first ten positions. The news for domestic automakers isn't good. Aside from Caddy, the only other star-spangled automaker to score above the industry average is Chrysler. The rest of FCA, most of GM, and all of Ford fell below the line. But Pied Piper's mystery shoppers handed Tesla the biggest walloping – the company is ten full points below the next lowest brand, Volvo, and its score of 86 is 17 below the average of 103. It's baffling, considering the company's touted direct-sales model. "Tesla leaves me scratching my head," Fred O'Hagan, Pied Piper's president and CEO, told Wards Auto. "They own all of their stores, so you would think each one would be doing the same thing. But they're not. Tesla is consistent in its inconsistencies." O'Hagan added that there's a "huge variation" in Tesla's store-to-store effectiveness, and that in some cases, shoppers found showroom workers that acted more like "museum curators," Wards Auto reports. It might be popular to call Tesla the Apple of the car world, but based on Pied Piper's work, the brand has a long way to go to emulate the uniform shopping experience of an Apple Store. The news might be bad for Tesla, but even for the brands that scored below average, there's cause for celebration. Only Tesla and Mini lost points in this year's rankings, and only Mercedes and Lincoln held steady. Every other brand, including Infiniti, which topped the index for the first time, gained at least one point. The biggest improvements belong to Porsche, Land Rover, and Mitsubishi, which all jumped five points. Pied Piper's annual Prospect Satisfaction Index uses mystery shoppers – over 6,100 this year – from across the country to assess dealers and generate rankings from over 50 individual factors. Survey says $25k barrier is a problem for EVs
Sun, 01 Dec 2013
The majority of consumers are more or less priced out of the market.
Electric cars are gaining popularity with the general public, but are they still too expensive? According to a survey 1,084 consumers by Navigant Research, a consulting firm located in Boulder, CO, 71 percent want their next car to cost under $25,000, while 41 percent won't go a cent above $20K. Looks like people are even thriftier than we'd originally thought.
