This is the 2nd time I listed this car on ebay. I have now owned the car 3 years. I bought it for my wife who will not drive it (she thinks the hood is too long). I was driving it once a week, but as we got heavier into our 1963 Nova restoration the car got driven less and less and this is just not right. I know I will never do anything with this Cougar. I am just not a convertible kind of guy. I've lowered the price from last year because I would like this car to have a home this year. If you want to see a video of the top working, go to my flickr website flickr.com/mydogaragon/sets/72157630611980944 and you can see the top work as well as other photos.

I just gave it a complete real tune up, replacing everything. I noticed the timing was a bit off and the distributor was frozen, so we put in a new distributor. I also put in a new alternator. The car has many new parts from me as well as the previous owner. To name a few: Gas tank, shocks, fuel pump, top rubbers, wheel cylinder, lens, clock, windshield, radio with USB port, speakers.

The car was parked 13 years ago when it's windshield was cracked by a rock. The owner moved it once a week. I have it inspected and tagged and drive it when I can. Right now it's parked for display and moved every other day. As far as I know The mileage is original. The car is un-restored and it shows in a few places as you can see in the photos.  I'm sure the car was repaired at some point in the 70's or 80's. There is bondo in many spots and the nose needs some work.  The Drivers door does not line up correctly (Have to be up close to tell) and looks to have bondo in it as well. There is rust where you would expect it to be, but nothing showing through the paint.  If you want something to drive right now that looks good from 10 feet this is your car.  If you want a restoration project, you have a good running car and all the original stuff to work with.

The photos don't show the center console as I personally don't like it, but I have it in my shop on a rack. Any parts I replaced (like radio and clock), I kept the originals in case the new owner wanted them. Most everything I bought came from west coast classic cougar.

The car is listed locally. A $500 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit would be need for me to pull ads and hold the car for you.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.

Junkyard Gem: 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Sat, Dec 19 2020

Once hybrid vehicles from Honda and Toyota proved to work well in the real world of American streets during the early 2000s, other U.S.-market manufacturers climbed aboard the gasoline-electric bandwagon. Ford introduced the Escape Hybrid for the 2005 model year and sales proved quite strong; its Mercury-badged sibling, the Mariner Hybrid, appeared the following year. The Mariner Hybrid never induced many vehicle shoppers to sign on the line which is dotted, despite gasoline prices going absolutely ape in 2008, though it remained available all the way through the Mercury brand's 2010 demise. Here's one of those rare trucks, found in a Denver-area yard last month. The Escape/Mariner Hybrids got amazing fuel economy for tall, truck-shaped machines, though the serious penny-pinchers with long commutes skipped anything built in the 21st century and began driving up the prices of the once-scorned Geo Metro XFi, gas-sipping champion of the previous decade. The Mercury brand was on the ropes by this time, with not much to distinguish the once-distinctive Mercury machines from their near-identical Ford counterparts. The 1999-2002 Cougar was the last Mercury sold here with no twin brothers over in the Ford showrooms. I do see the occasional Escape Hybrid in places like this, though such gas-saving small SUVs tend to retain their value well enough that it takes a crash to retire one. This Mariner Hybrid hit something hard and either flipped on its side or scraped a guardrail for some distance. The airbags deployed and, presumably, spared the occupants from serious injury. That's the good news. The bad news is that fixing this kind of damage to a 13-year-old vehicle made by a defunct brand just isn't worth it to insurance companies, hybrid-electric powertrain or not. We can assume that the battery pack lives on in another Escape/Mariner. Navigation, Bluetooth, and other features that were considered pretty slick in 2007. This truck was in pretty good shape until the very end. Jill Wagner proved that you can bury a Mercury emblem in volcanic soil and it will grow into a brand-new Mariner Hybrid. That's how science works! You can go to the same field and tap on a Mercury emblem, if you want to get a regular gasoline Mariner. Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
