1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator Clone Convertible on 2040-cars
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
|
1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator Clone Convertible. This car is being sold as a Restoration project. Original 351W, FMX trans, dual exhaust. Motor was rebuilt and runs. Car hasn't been driven in 20 years. Front and rear spoilers, and the bold hood scoop with the Eliminator striping kit. Previous owner replaced floor pans, both quarters and fenders at one time, but used the original doors. They didn't make aftermarket quarter panels back then, so most likely these were original FoMoCo quarter panels that were used. Quarters look good as do the front fenders. Previous owner did a hatchet job cleanup on the doors and appears to have sprayed bombed and bondo'd the door corners. Overall the doors do look very good and are hard to find used.
Complete interior. AM/FM radio is included but unconnected and no speakers in dash or door panel slots. The carpet is new and the front bucket seats were reupholstered. The original dash pad is in very nice shape, and I couldn't find any cracks anywhere. There is a matching set of four P225/70SR14 inch Grand Prix Radial G/T raised white lettered tires mounted on Magnum 500 wheels. Brakes are not in working order but I am going to attempt to repair. Missing all mirrors and headlight vacuum switch. The trunk also has the factory styled trunk mat t from Ken's Cougars and a full size Magnum 500 spare with an original jack and crow bar. The trunk floor in good condition however the drivers side torque boxes and frame rails are poor. Paint is a 10 footer and is chipped and faded. Front bumper is in need of re-chrome. This is being sold as a restoration car or for parts, not safely drive-able at present. I will answer any questions you have honestly and truthfully unlike some sellers on this site. I will assist with shipping anywhere |

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems
Sun, 10 Mar 2013The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.
NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall
Tue, Apr 7 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.
Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers
Mon, 04 Aug 2014These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.
