I am the third owner of the car. It was purchased new in California in late 1968.  Within a year the original owner installed the American Racing wheels that are still on the car and have been for 45 years.  He had the car for most of its life.  The next owner rarely drove the car but made good investments into its upkeep including new paint and some interior work.

I have owned the car for a couple of years.  All of the projects are now complete.  The car is ready for the next owner to enjoy. Here is a breakdown of work completed and the condition of the car.

The car is rust free.  The only issue was the front passenger floor.  A small hole in the firewall allowed water to accumulate under the carpet.  That was repaired. There is no bondo on the car.  The paint is very good but not show quality.   A professional shop repainted the threshold areas, inside of the doors, underside of hood and trunk.  Dash was also repainted.  Rear bumper was rechromed.  Passenger side mirror installed.

Dynamat sound deadening was installed on floor, in trunk and inside doors.  New carpet installed.  New speakers and wire installed. The original AM/FM radio works great.  A previous owner installed speakers in the door panels.  While I replaced them, I never would have cut the panel for speakers.  I acquired another set of matching door panels which you can swap out if you choose.  New trunk mat, tire cover, board inserts and tool bag in the trunk along with original jack.

The air conditioning system was completely replumbed and converted to modern materials.  It works perfectly.  Front end is new, oil pan is too.  Front disk brakes  and rear drums are new.  Battery, plugs, ignition wires, cap etc all recently replaced.  A new Holly carb was installed and performance has never been better.  The original carb comes with the car.  The car starts immediately and runs beautifully. It needs nothing.

I welcome your questions.

Ford recalling 370,000 Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car models

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will recall some 370,000 Crown Victoria (pictured), Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles from model years 2005 through 2011, for an issue regarding the lower intermediate steering shaft. 355,000 of the vehicles in question were sold in the US, with the other 15,000 sold in Canada.
The report indicates that corrosion of the lower intermediate steering shaft could cause a "loss of steering," presumably because of a partial or complete failure of the part. The report points out the dealers will inspect and replace the offending steering component for recalled cars, and may also secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft as needed. The company is unaware of any reports of the faulty part causing any accidents or injuries.
Ford helpfully lists states in which corrosion is more likely to have taken place, mostly in the Snow Belt, as you might guess. Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia are listed.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
